Course 1, Discussion 5: 7 Cups Culture
Hello Leadership Crew!
I hope you have been benefitting from this course. This is the last discussion of our course 1.
We take culture seriously on 7 Cups because it is the heart of how we operate. A wise person once said: You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are. We can have all of the best training content we want, but if our culture is not strong, then we will not be successful in growing a thriving, compassionate, community that will make a global impact.
Every organization has a culture whether by design or by default. When culture (including values and mission are not called out or made explicit, the organization defaults to an implicit or unstated culture. The unnamed culture is not always great for the end users or the community. An example of a common and implicit cultural rule or norm is that the person that makes the most money or the organization is the most important. People that work in this organization then, naturally, because it is the culture, start organizing themselves around ways to make more and more money. The ones at the top of the hierarchy are the ones that make the most money. 7 Cups cares less about money and more about compassion. We call out compassion and celebrate compassionate people because that is central to the work we do.
Please read our guide here to deeply understand our culture. We have made it explicit because we believe it is important to help us all be accountable to what we stand for and believe in. As leaders on 7 Cups, you will be models that emulate our culture and values.

Here are 3 things I learned from the 7 Cups culture guide:
-
Listening matters – Just being there for someone can help more than advice.
-
Kindness over perfection – It’s okay not to say the perfect thing, as long as you care.
-
Take care of yourself too – You can’t pour from an empty cup.
These really stuck with me and I’ll keep them in mind while supporting others 💙
@Sompo2402
Hey there, there are awesome keypoints that you took from the guide! I also really resonate with the third highlighted point which is to take care of yourself. Let's strive to work hard but also prioritize our well-being as we progress in our journey at 7cups.
Cheers ;)

- Why we do what we do
- The 3 circles, understanding what roles I'm looking for to maximize productivity.
- Valuing current roles and trying to understand what to drop and what to keep at
I learnt that a big part of flourishing is doing work that is personally fulfilling. It is important for productivity and efficiency.
I also learnt to value warmth and friendliness. It is important to dramatically increases trust.
Lastly, I learnt that we should collaborate more and help each other. It’s important because few problems are solved alone.

✒️To help make it more real, in this post, please highlight the 3 most important things you learned from our guide and why they are important to you.
1. Most problems are going to be figured out through discussion and collaboration.
Sometimes, it's best to collaborate and reach out to others for input in order to successfully produce a solution that is representative of everyone's ideas and thoughts. When you discuss with others, you find better and innovative approaches to solve problems that you may not have found simply through yourself.
2. In order to perform well at work, you need to also take good care of yourself when you are not at work.
Prioritizing yourself is key to high-performance work. It's important to take regulated self-care days every now in order to maintain yourself and also continue providing for the community via volunteering.
3. However, even with focus and engagement, you are still going to fail A LOT.
Failure is inevitable, but we must strive to stay positive. By being consistent and optimistic, obstacles can be easily overcomed.

Accepting Failure:
Personally, this is something I struggled with for a while because I couldn't imagine myself failing. Eventually, I realized it's part of the growth.
Acountability:
Acountability is a big part of self reflection and self awareness. It's essential to know what you gave and what you took out of an experience and how did it affect everything else.
Taking care of yourself :
I'm the type of person who tend to put on a lot of pressure on myself because I can't function without have some kind of workload. That often makes me burnout easily. I've been trying to balance things and solve the problem hopefully it does resolve soon.
Good job, 👏 👏 👏👏👏, all the best with completing the course. Have a good day!
Dear @benevolentCloud9834,
I am very glad that you have identified these important things. Always thrive and continue to shine ✨ 😊
I learnt that trust collaborating and hard work help us improve our lives.
Failure is okay and it is nothing to be scared of. Failure, in fact, helps one grow.
To be frIendly and kind to other people. To make sure that I don't hurt people online.
To take care of myself. As the saying goes, you cannot fill from an empty cup, this serves me as a reminder to take care of myself first before I take care of others.

Hello💕Thank you so much for this amazing post and the guide! I must say, this was one of the most important guides that we all should know! I'm so glad that I'm a part of this gorgeous service-oriented community that's so dedicated to make a positive difference to the world and make it a better place to live in!
The 3 most important elements that resonated with me while there are many😜
1. Friendliness and Conscientiousness - It's really difficult to create a safe, reliable and joyful happy space without its members being friendly and someone you can trust with your problems/pain. Being a part of the largest mental health community, I feel this is something I will put on a high priority.
2. Solving problems that matter - It was a great realization that problem is the path! And I am really firm about facing them head on and trying my best to solve them only knowing later that they made a significant difference to the people. I also learnt something new about time management to identify which problems need prioritization.
3. Collaborate - Any organization becomes successful only when there's understanding, everybody is supporting each other in growing, voluntarily coming forward to resolve conflicts, fostering more trust with every problem confronted and thereby being open to new views and taking things afresh as they appear without judgement. This also means having an accountable setup that strikes balance between empathy and efficiency.
I'm really looking forward to making a good difference by my work! Thank you so much for this!
Dear @Hope,
✒️To help make it more real, in this post, please highlight the 3 most important things you learned from our guide and why they are important to you.
1. Avoiding problems means you are not progressing this is very important to me because at some point of my life I was avoiding problems until I knew that I can’t progress without them.
2. When you fail 100 times. you just knew a 100 ways that the problem won’t be solved with
3. High warmth, High expectation is required to become successful and I will perform better than what I was expecting and I will always remember that my work saves lives.
