Congrats! You made it the second course in the LDP! In this course, we focus on the specific interpersonal skills needed to be a strong leader on 7 Cups, including mastery of communication skills, time management, conflict resolution, stress management and empowering new leaders.

I know if you are here, you have read our values and culture guide. I would like to start off by further emphasizing one value that's required for a leader to be successful here, and that is balancing High Expectations & High Warmth.

Work environments with high expectations and minimal warmth tend to result in companies that are very driven, rule-oriented and risk-averse. The people do not tend to grow as much personally or professionally. On the other hand, workplaces that are high in warmth, but have minimal expectations, tend to struggle. Everyone is happy and feels loved, but not a lot of effective or focused work gets done.

7 Cups is high expectations AND high warmth. We expect a lot from you. You might feel like we think you are more capable than other people have suggested or maybe even more capable than how you see yourself. That is okay. Every person on the team has outperformed and done better than they expected. This is largely because warmth, patience, and trust help people make much more progress than they have in other environments. We have high expectations, but we will provide plenty of encouragement and guidance to help you get there.

What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

Too low expectations might lead to a lack of motivation and growth, while too little warmth can make members feel unsupported or disconnected. A balance is needed to create a space that is both encouraging and structured.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders?

Without high expectations, teamwork may lack direction, and without warmth, collaboration could feel impersonal. Finding the right mix ensures a supportive, goal-oriented environment where everyone can thrive!

✒️ What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

Everyone will be unhappy unless the needs are met. With high expectatiins one might lead go burnout because there is no warmth aka support. That will lead to being an inadequate leader and this will also take a toll on the genrral mental health. The platform will no longer be a well oiled machine. It will slowly statt breaking down.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders?

The community will suffer due to inefficient and inadequacy with regards to genetal roles and tasks. The follow leaders will be impacted by the listeners low moral and the workload will become heavier to fix mistakes that will arise.

✒️ What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

As a 7 Cups leader, a balance between expectations and warmth is vital. Thus, an imbalance of expectations and warmth can have major implications on the dynamics and productivity of my team and me. If I have high warmth but lower expectations, I might be able to make the team feel welcomed and supported; however, we wouldn't be able to achieve our goals. With low expectations, my team might feel lost or lack a sense of direction. On the other hand, high expectations and low warmth can create a space where individuals on my team do not feel supported and have a tendency to burn out more easily, delaying the achievement of our goals. For me, a good leader is emotionally intelligent, compassionate, and supportive while being assertive, attentive to details, and rigorous; the imbalance of warmth and expectations might make becoming a great leader challenging.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders?

Having low expectations can make the community and fellow leaders feel lost as they may lack a deeper understanding of what is required of them. This can have great ramifications on their motivation and on achieving our goals on 7 cups. Having little warmth can make individuals (community and fellow leaders) feel unsupported and unable to effectively collaborate with each other and can create a hostile environment instead of a cohesive and supportive one.

What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

I think that when you have high expectations and warmth can be beneficial and productive as a leader for their team and provide the team. A leader who understands empathy towards their team and being able to provide warmth to them for them to work up to leaders expectations and beyond. Having the patience with leaders and teams and working together.

How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders?

I think with low expectation and warmth will cause a hostile environment and unmotivated teams and leaders as it impacts everyone and how they feel and their motivations to do any work and not working together.

@calmingMemory13 I really like what you said about empathy and patience. I agree — when a leader shows warmth and truly believes in their team, it helps everyone reach new heights. It’s amazing how much difference the right balance can make!

✒️ I believe when there’s an imbalance between expectations and warmth, it creates an unhealthy space. If expectations are too high without enough warmth, people might feel pressured or disconnected. On the other hand, if there's too much warmth but no clear direction or goals, it’s easy for motivation and progress to fade. A healthy balance helps everyone grow and feel supported at the same time.

✒️ If expectations are too low or there’s too little warmth, the community can start to lose its purpose and energy. Members and leaders might feel unsure about their roles or unappreciated, which affects teamwork and trust. When expectations are clear and warmth is present, it builds strong connections and helps everyone push forward together.

✒️ What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

An imbalance of expectations and warmth leads to instability within the membership. Ideally, expectations should align with reality. Positive encouragement energizes the team, motivating them to do more and to do it better. Everyone has room for improvement, and a stimulating work environment boosts productivity.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders?

Having expectations that are too low, along with too little warmth, can lead to conflicts within the community.
The risk is failing to recognize the abilities of those who are actually efficient, and feeling as if they’re not doing enough.
Discouragement certainly doesn't help group performance — it would only lead to confusion.

What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth? If I am noit 100% then my leadership means nothing. I have tio be3 firm and know what I want from this community, This begins with me begin a leader

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders? Low expectations from me show others that this community will not work. We all have to have no lows in the team to proceed further

✒️ What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth? As stated in the reading, there are struggles if there are high expectations and lack of warmth and low expectations and high warmth. Either the people will be dissatisfied or the work will suffer.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders? Too low expectations will cause the work standard to be low in the community. Fellow leaders will be upset because the work is not up to par. Little warmth will lead to listener burnout for not feeling cared for or appreciated. This will upset fellow leaders who expect a high warmth environment and who are providing this in their service.

✒️ What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth?

If I lean too much into expectations without enough warmth, I risk creating a stressful or rigid environment where others feel like they’re constantly being evaluated but not supported. It might lead to burnout, low morale, or people withdrawing because they don’t feel emotionally safe to make mistakes or grow. On the flip side, if I offer too much warmth without holding people accountable, things might feel comforting but unproductive—goals might get overlooked, and team members might not push themselves to improve or contribute their full potential. Balance is key. High expectations need to be wrapped in genuine care and encouragement so people feel both challenged and supported.

✒️ How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact:

1.) The community
Too low expectations can lead to stagnation—important initiatives might be delayed, and members may not feel motivated to grow or contribute. Too little warmth, however, makes the community feel cold and transactional. Members might feel unseen or undervalued, which could lead to disengagement. Both scenarios create distance instead of connection, which goes against the heart of what 7 Cups stands for.

2.) How you work with your fellow leaders
If I don’t expect much from my fellow leaders, I might unintentionally signal that their efforts or potential don’t matter, which can lower team morale and unity. If I fail to show warmth, it could damage trust and make collaboration feel more like competition or obligation. But when expectations and warmth are balanced, we uplift each other, hold each other accountable, and build a team culture where we can all thrive together.
