Course 3, Discussion 2: Accepting and Providing Feedback
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Some reasons why accepting feedback is important:
It helps us improve our craft/skills/ourselves
We become aware of our own short comings.
We can learn how others may perceive us.
Reasons why it can be challenging to hear constructive feedback:
We might associate it with who we are as a whole.
We may think the person giving it has lost respect for us.
It can hurt our ego.
The choice is yours! Are you willing to deal with discomfort for your greater good? If so then constructive feedback is an essential tool you must utilize.
Now let's see how to give feedback!
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Steps to give useful feedback:
Sandwich it between genuine positive feedback.
Don’t do it too often. Remember a person can only accept so much constructive feedback before it drains them. Use it sparingly.
Ask yourself what you are communicating is beneficial to the person or your own personal preference. Only provide feedback if it will help the person.
Let's practice giving constructive feedback.
This is the situation.

Hi listener,
I wanted to give you some feedback based on a recent interaction you had with a member of the team,
I really loved how you took the time to reach out to them and provide them with the feedback you gave! It's great to see you think ahead and plan the feedback.
I think you could have been a little less direct with your feedback, as this caused the listener to feel that they weren't appreciated or valued, maybe when your providing feedback think about the delivery and plan for ensuring that we can validate feelings and compassion in the content of the feedback.
I think your doing an amazing job! Thank you for your comitmemt and for everything you do with leading the team and bring them upto the standards for the task! You are amazing 👏
@Always25
I really like what you've. I'd be lucky if you were my leader :)
@FrenchToast
Hey there CoffeePerson198, I hope everything is going well. I'm glad that I get to be your leader. I see that you take the time to respond which is great, but I wish you shared with me what's been making you late to do the assignment. You've been punctual all along. Keep it up
@benevolentCloud9834 Your feedback is nice. I feel it's so motivating if I receive it
@FrenchToast
Hey Coffee! How are you keeping up? I really wish things are good and healthy at your end. I had been monitoring the progress work of our team lately. And I really appreciate your consideration, punctuality and responsiveness that feature your work style. However, I observed that you did not report about the work status of an assignment to me that was meant to be completed 3 weeks ago, disrupting our workflow. A sense of accountability and sincerity matters a lot when we are in a team. And I expect you to be the one which I'm sure you definitely will improve upon.
@resilience2025
Awesome!
@FrenchToast
Hey Coffee, I really appreciate how consistently punctual you are and how quickly you respond—it's clear that you care deeply about the team and the people we support. That said, I’ve noticed the assigned task hasn’t been completed for the past three weeks, and I haven’t heard from you about any challenges you might be facing—open communication here would really help us move forward smoothly. I know you're a committed and empathetic team member, and I’m confident that with just a bit more transparency, your contributions can shine even brighter.

Ans: Great job on meeting last week’s project deadline — your dedication and
commitment really helped keep everything on track. One area to work on
would be improving communication during key stages, as a few team
members were unsure of task progress. That said, your enthusiasm and
problem-solving approach continue to be a valuable asset to the team.

Wonderful use of the sandwich method for giving constructive feedback!
Hi CoffeePerson198! I hope all is well. I just wanted to provide some feedback on our current project. You've been an incredibly caring and empathetic participant in our team (we're so happy to have you!). However I've noticed that your assigned task hasn't been completed yet and just wanted to check in that everything is okay. You haven't communicated anything with me about what's going on and if you need support with anything. Communication is an important part of making sure our projects run smoothly so if you could make sure to communicate any updates and issues with me that would be great. Thank you so much for all your hard work so far! Your punctuality and quick response time is greatly appreciated :)
I look forward to hearing where you stand with the task and if there's anything we can do as a team to support you! Don't be afraid to reach out.
@awesomeForever34
great thoughts
@FrenchToast
As the team's leader, it is your responsibility to provide constructive criticism. Please use the sandwich approach (praise + constructive criticism + praise) to create a message of at least two sentences.
Coffee, hello! It's good to meet you. I'm really proud of you for being kind yet direct when I see you around. You were given an assignment that hasn't been completed in a long time. Would you be able to get in to the dash and complete that work for me? I could be of aid to you if you need it! I also like how you are really sympathetic and react to people swiftly. Enjoy your day
Hello Coffee! I hope this message finds you well.
To begin, I would like to commend you for your amazing contributions to this platform. Your ingenuity in caring for the members in 7 Cups is outstanding, and worthy of recognition. I am so glad you are making such insightful improvements.
While this improvement is notable, I notice you don't reply often to my previous messages. You are yet to complete the assignment I sent you 3 weeks ago. Kindly note, that the deadline is drawing near and all tasks must be completed before that. Please send me a reply as soon as possible.
Thanks once again, for being a valuable listener on 7 Cups!

I would like to thank you for the constant dedication and support towards our team, you've been an amazing component in out group! next I wanted to discuss about the tasks that were assigned to you 3 weeks ago, is there some reason for the completion delay that I should be aware of? if so, I'd be glad to hear from you.

That message is thoughtful and kind. You balanced praise, a clear request for communication, and encouragement really well. CoffeePerson198 will see you care and that you want to help, not punish; great job keeping the tone supportive and solution-focused.
