Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric

User Profile: FrenchToast
FrenchToast December 5th, 2022

It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.

Please watch this video

There are 2 parts to this discussion.

✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.

✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.

✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

I am part of the academy mentor group and hence our key metric is to ensure everyone has the support and guidance they need during their academic experience on 7cups. Understanding the purpose of a key metric is necessary.

Since I currently do not hold any leadership roles I will be highlighting a hypothetical situation of the key metrics I would want to move in 7Cups. For myself, I would like to be accepted to be an academy mentor. For me I would choose to make sure that I check in on my trainees at least a minimum amount fo times each week with open communication. This will ensure that I am allowing and guding them on the right track. Choosing a single metric is important because it does not make you feel overhwlemed or stressed while also ensuring that you are providing the support necessary. Within my professional life, I always try to set out a single goal or key thing I want to push forward, and by putting majority of my focus on ensuring that happens it benefits me in the long run.

@globalWillow3000 this sounds like a realistic goal that has enough specifications for you to take those steps and make it a reality. Good luck!

My key metric would be the feedback, if they said thank you, if they felt comfortable and gratitude. This is because helping others and receiving good feedback makes me feel amazing. As a new Hobby Zone Chat Supporter, I also would use as a key metric activity WITH how much did people enjoy it.

As I look to the conclusion of my life, I want to be known as a kind and devoted person who inspired, helped, and listened to others to make a significant difference. I want to be recognized for being a caring and honest leader, whether it be via my job in mental health and medicine or through personal relationships. This activity reaffirmed how crucial it is that my actions reflect my basic beliefs and that I put more emphasis on relationships and the impact I have than merely my achievements. It served as a reminder to me to stick to my mission and put making a significant difference ahead of time management.

Sticking to one main goal gives me a sense of direction and purpose. It’s easy to get caught up in tasks that don’t really matter, but when I know what I’m aiming for, I can prioritize better and stay motivated. It helps me make more intentional choices, both on 7 Cups and in my personal life, so I feel like my time and energy are going toward something that truly counts.

A single metric is pivotal in staying on course and ultimately achieving the goal.

The three people

My sister: She was dependable and understood me. She always strived to be a better muslim. She was a role model for my children.

My niece

She always wanted what was best for me even though i didn't see the full picture. She inspired me to do my best. She lived her true self.

My friend

Even though she misunderstood, she made sure everyone felt understood and heard. Very few people thought the way she did. She was truly a light in people's lives.

It didn't impact me as much as i thought it would, thinking about death. However, i know that there is room for improvement because i have more people in my life to inspire!

I have a listener role and i try to understand members and what their situation is with no judgement and how i can relate to their situation with my own experience, supporting them and how they feel, but also giving positive and encouraging words while just listening to them.

The key metric I hope to influence is synergy, that is, envisioning the individual components of a community as gears of a single system. Visualizing potential obstacles and mutual support in overcoming them is important.

I have completed the exercise, it made me reflect, but I don't believe it is appropriate to share the result. On the other hand, it seems to me that the perspective of some witnesses will remain unchangeable despite my efforts.

I'm part of the support team . Our key metric is to keep a safe and fun environment in there. This is important in my personal life because it gives me a sence of responsibility and warmth and success. I wanted to help people and this is what i got from this role.i want to make people out of struggle. I want to help people express them selfs more .

I read the chapter but can't think of how I will die, this is a tough things to accept death and rather not participate in it in fear of nightmares

@pamharley003

I understand that facing the topic of death can be very difficult, and not all of us feel ready to do so. The important thing is that you are taking positive steps by supporting communities like the forum for people over 50 and practicing mindfulness, that is also a great way to live with more presence and purpose, powerful tool, but in the meantime, it's okay to go at your own pace and take care of your emotional well being
