Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric
It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.
There are 2 parts to this discussion.
✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.
✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.
✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

Answer:
One key metric I would personally like to focus on is creating a safe, supportive, and emotionally comfortable space for members during chats 😊 I want people to feel genuinely heard, understood, and less alone after talking.
I think choosing one meaningful goal is very important because otherwise we can easily lose focus or try to do too many things at once. Having one “north star” helps us stay consistent and reminds us why we are contributing in the first place. Professionally also, focusing on one important goal improves discipline, clarity, and productivity because we start giving our energy to things that truly matter instead of getting distracted.
Personally, this idea can also help in life because it makes us think more deeply about our values and the kind of person we want to become. It reminds us to focus more on meaningful progress instead of only chasing achievements or comparison with others 😊

Answer:
If I imagine the end of my life, I think I would want people to say that I was a kind, understanding, and supportive person who genuinely cared about others and tried to make people feel heard and valued ❤️
I would want them to remember me as someone who stayed humble, helped others whenever possible, and created comfort for people during difficult moments. I think this exercise was emotional but also very meaningful because it makes us reflect on what truly matters in life. It reminded me that kindness, relationships, and emotional impact are much more important than temporary success or recognition.
The exercise also made me think more about following my “compass” instead of only following pressure, comparison, or expectations from others. It helped me realize that living meaningfully is more important than simply staying busy all the time 😊

My key goal is to help create a safe and supportive environment for upcoming members, where they feel heard, respected, and emotionally safe.
Professionally, this helps me develop stronger leadership skills by understanding my team’s needs better and supporting them in a more effective and meaningful way. Personally, it brings me peace within myself and helps me grow into a more empathetic and grounded individual in everyday life.

I have completed that previously but i am not comfortable sharing that here!
@Smilingsoul11
I really liked your point about creating a safe and supportive space for new members. I also think that's one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute to the 7 Cups community...
Wishing you all the best as you continue making a positive impact on the community! 💚
@FrenchToast
✒️ Part 1
The metric I want to focus on is helping members leave chats feeling heard and a little less alone. Having one clear goal keeps me focused and reminds me why I'm here. Instead of trying to do everything, I can put my energy into what matters most. I think this applies outside of 7 Cups, too. It helps you make decisions that align with your values instead of getting distracted.
✒️ Part 2
If I imagined people speaking about me at the end of my life, I'd hope they'd say I made them feel safe, cared for, and understood. More than achievements, I'd want to be remembered for how I treated people. This exercise reminded me that the little things we do every day matter more than we often realise. It's a good reminder to live in a way that aligns with the person I want to be, rather than getting caught up in things that won't matter in the long run.
@Pudding1000
That even helped me get a different viewpoint thanks for sharing
@Pudding1000
i hope you are able to reach your goals!!
@lyricalStrawberry4547
thank you!

As part of the Needs Reply Team, our primary goal is to ensure that everyone in the forums feels heard and acknowledged. That's why it's important to identify a metric that is both measurable and aligned with our overall objective. Having clear, measurable metrics allows us to manage performance based on facts, make informed decisions, and implement strategies that help us achieve our goals more effectively.
At the moment, it is difficult to accurately measure how many Needs Replies are completed. Since this could be a key performance metric, I plan to discuss it with my leader to explore whether there is a simpler and more effective way to track our performance.

@HealingAlien4444 I like that you focused on having a measurable goal. Tracking progress can make it much easier to see what's working and where improvements can be made :)
@FrenchToast Thanks for sharing :)

Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. The key metric I want to focus on is being consistent with the quality of support I provide rather than simply the number of chats I complete. Having one clear goal helps me stay focused on what really matters instead of trying to do everything at once. Professionally, I think this encourages more meaningful work and better long-term results. Personally, it reminds me to prioritise quality over quantity and stay aligned with the kind of listener I want to be.
I've also posted my 3 key things in the thread and will continue updating it as I make progress.
(TW: themes that deal with death) Read Chapter 12 of Searching Soul and do the exercise. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying at the end of your life and how the exercise impacted you. I'd prefer to keep my reflection private. I found it helpful because it encouraged me to think more about the values I want to live by and the kind of impact I hope to have on others.
@FrenchToast
I am room supporter for the relationship stress community and the key metric I am currently working on is making sure no person feels unheard in the group chat
I completed it but do not wish to share!!

I am trying to be more compassionate and more human. I am already posting in weekly beacon. Having a single goal makes it easy to focus and acts actually as a north star. In the professional life being more compassionate creates a sense of realness and shows that you are actually a human. Personally it just brings peace in life being compassionate and real.
@sereneMango2512
Also read the chapter and I wish to keep it secret.
@sereneMango2512 me too honestly

I think choosing one key metric is important because it helps me stay focused on the specific impact I want to make as a Quality Mentor and Chatroom Supporter. Instead of trying to improve everything at once, I can focus on one area and consistently work towards making it better.
In my roles, I want the support I provide to actually help listeners feel more confident, supported, and connected to the community. Tracking one metric will help me see whether the things I am doing are making a difference, rather than just assuming they are.
Personally, I think this will also teach me to be more consistent and accountable. It will help me turn a bigger goal into small actions I can work on every day and remind me that even small contributions can help move 7 Cups forward.

It's important to choose a single metric because it keeps us on track and remind us constantly to do the right thing. I'm part of the safety patrol team so our goal is to identify those who might violate the community guidelines and create a safe environment for all the members.

I imagine at the end of my life I will live my life to the fullest. So I ask myself now whenever I feel like doing something, is it something I've done before or is it a brand new experience?
@Irise Thank you for sharing, it means a lot to be that you can share something so important.
@FrenchToast I have taken a bunch of training and certifications to further enhance my experience for members who need help.
I am a part of the safety patrol team so I can create a safer space for everyone
I am applying for other leadership roles so I can help others as well as myself towards someone's mental health journey.
Part two, did it, but I do not feel comfortable sharing.
