it would be useful, to help people function better in daily lives here on earth, or maybe in space. it would be an applied version of our most recent knowledge in some area that benefits something, like making life more comfortable or convenient or easier to "save time" or "save hassle"

A device that captures and saves our warmest feelings about ourselves and that others have toward us.
So when times are rough and we forget that they were ever any different, we could open it up like a bottle of perfume and remember that those experiences were just as real.
