Self-Compassion

Self-compassion towards ourselves is similar to how we use self-compassion towards others. Self-compassion is derived from the Latin words com and passion. There are 3 types of compassion: mindfulness, common humanity, and kindness.

Self-compassion, being supportive to ourselves and others, is facing our troubles or when a friend is troubled, feels inadequate, and makes mistakes. We must face the situation and heal ourselves or others to know we all make mistakes and that no one is perfect.

When in a troubled state, we may start judging our words or actions just like with others and come up with a way of rebuilding compassion back into our body. We want to live happy and healthy lives, and we want to care for others, not just ourselves, and have compassion in the world.

There is a saying, "Treat others as you would want to be treated." My Grams always instilled that in me. If I am happy, I can make others happy. We all want to be treated fairly to still love our mistakes or faults. We all suffer differently, but how we treat the situation, whether it is us or a friend or loved one, is compassion.

When someone is sad, we show soothing compassion and speak softly and help them through the situation. If we are angry, we tend to treat it as yelling, throwing things, or simply bursting out in a rage. Self-compassion is when we take a balanced and mindful approach so we don't act out in gestures or words.

Self-compassionate people are more likely to feel happy, be optimistic, and be satisfied with how their life is. We also are appreciative towards our body and mind. We become strong and resilient. Occasionally we are able to have boundaries and are not afraid to say no to something or someone.

Self-compassionate people are less likely to feel the pain and begin self-loathing. We can also develop anxiety and depression, get overwhelmed, and even develop stress. The person may begin to isolate themselves from others and feel lonely.

One way we can overcome self-compassion is through mindfulness. We begin to do self-care practices for ourselves, set boundaries, and stay away from toxic people or things. Self-care takes practice, so doing a little each day makes us feel better, stops us from being our worst enemy, and stops us from thinking about what others feel or say about us.

Self-care can be practiced any time of the day. We can stop when we get flustered and sit in a chair and just close our eyes and do deep breathing exercises and write what is troubling us in our journal. Mindfulness helps us relax back into a calm state. When you do any of the breathing exercises, it helps us not to have our hearts racing a mile a minute. Mindfulness brings us back to the now and helps us work on what has stressed us out.

First of All Thank you for breaking it into small paragraphs so I could read the post.

I have started a new technique to practice self compassion is that I keep reminding myself to be relaxed and focused.

To relax I use breathing technique and it works for me. As part of breathing exercise, I inhale deep and exhale slowly.

I practice self compassion by listening to my body and taking time out for myself. This might mean researching and trying new ideas. Learning more about it. This post was educational and helpful, thank you.

Journaling can help me unwind. Not only listening to music but also signing along helps. Noticing my body’s physical response and relaxing intentionally. Writing down positive affirmations and gratitude 💛
