What helps you to manage your emotions?
Weekend Check-In Mindfulness May 16 to 18, 2025

Our today's discussion topic was "Emotions and Feelings"
The way we respond to the difficulties of everyday life is greatly influenced by our emotions. Often, we can handle difficult tasks quite well when we're feeling well, but when we're sad, they become a real challenge.
Since emotions affect our choices, actions, and relationships, it is essential to comprehend and learn how to manage them. We may enhance our mental and emotional wellness by identifying our triggers and developing constructive ways to communicate them.
Self-Awareness helps us to see our inner self and who we truly are.
Here are some helpful ways/tools to practice self-awareness:
- Meditation techniques
- Taking time to observe our thoughts, feelings, and actions in a non-judgmental way
- Making conscious choices to create positive habits.
- Dialectical behavioral therapy. DBT helps to build skills like interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance. More on therapy here

I practice mindfulness. And not just like you'd do the meditation once a day, lie down etc, but trying to practice it throughout the day. When I'm really depressed, nothing really helps, but when I'm at least half functioning, I do mindfulness and the beauty of it is that you can do it in different settings, different times of the day etc. You can anchor it so some daily activity not to forget about it etc. It's just an amazing tool to keep you here and now and calm.
@amiablePeace77 what helps me is
Taking time to process my feelings.
Take accountability for them.
Not let them control or overwhelm me.
Take time before I make any decisions , so as not to just be reactive.
Thank you @amiablePeace77 ✨🙏🏽✨
To me, E-motion = Energy in Motion
i Like to identify it, be aware of the why -for example, maybe I’m extra grumpy because I am hungry or tired or someone cross one of my boundaries or I didn’t set one 😊✨ and after identifying it, I just feel it…feel the emotion and let it be
@ElenaDeMonaco
Great idea to check for the why's! Another good technique to use is the HALT technique,
- Hungry: Are you physically hungry?
- Angry: Are you feeling angry or frustrated?
- Lonely: Are you experiencing feelings of loneliness?
@amiablePeace77 thank you for explaining the health technique 🥰
Thank you @amiablePeace77 ✨ This is quite interesting ✨

I find that validation is really important for me in managing my feelings.
If it is a good day, or not too overwhelming feeling, it could be self validation. If a difficult day or difficult feeling, validation from someone else really helps (a friend, a support group, a listener etc). Validation stops me fighting the feeling and helps me accept it.
@Clio9876
Nice that you validate your feelings and not suppress them! 👍"Being heard" allows them to pass.
@Clio9876 validation for me is a key word 💜🥰
