Do you think social media makes people fake, or do is some fake people using social media.

Social media is a medium which could show a very narrow window of what life is. For instance a picture you took in your magical holidays cannot transmit to others what you felt in the place, how you felt overwhelmed with joy, were everything was so fresh and new. A picture is just a small fragment. I might not have much life experience, but it feels to me like social media it could twist people`s perceptions on relationships, perhaps social media just transmit a small fragment of what the person using this medium is just reflecting a small part of themselves, even if the person tries to hide who they are, if you pay close attention to more of this person part of themselves will start to show. So perhaps social media is just a medium, a tool, and the one using the tool it depends on how they use it.

I want to bring this to the attention on the camp of dating, for sure it always depends on what the individual is like inside, do we pay more attention to looks, we think, ok looks matters, but past that how is the person inside, what sorta person do I have in front of me? seeing how what social media could transmit in with text, image, video and audio, for the sake of it let pretend is a couple pretending to be the perfect couple to gain followers, and to feel better about themselves, etc. Just bear in mind that all is based on perception, and what you see might not be what they were trying to transmit. I tend to go on tangents, point is I do believe for to get a stronger feeling of how the person is like is much better to meet the person face to face. For instance you met a girl, and want to get to know her more, bye texts messages is very limited what you could know from the person, but if you meet face to face its such a more rich and unique experience, which you can get things from living in the moment in real life which you cannot get from a small capture or a fragment of a person.

thanks for reading and have a lovely day.

@okeyyyy

Regarding your title .... YES...... i think social media can and does Make people more fake.   It is just an easier way for fake people to be fake as well.

For example so many share photos and details that all look good we do not see the situation behind it.

A person i recently met told me that his EX used to make whole family dress up one day each vacation to send staged "look how great this is"   photos on social apps....   so many get depressed or jealous trying to compare themselves instead of considering the item could be and often is FAKE.

@okeyyyy

Great question! Personally I think it’s a combination of both.

Yes social media can make and has made people fake.

However fake people have also existed long before social media existed. For example, so many people have been trading either their entire authentic selves or pieces/parts of it to “fit in” and “be cool” and “popular “ enough to “hang out” with the so called “cool crowd/community” which consisted of kids they never saw or had any contact or connection with whatsoever after they all graduated except for the occasional running into each other randomly and catching up for a few quick minutes which may not always happen or catching up on social media. This whole so called “trading your real self to be popular and fit in” tradition typically happened during people’s grade school years especially middle school and even more so in high school.

But now with social media it’s extended beyond that whereas in pre social media years all the fakeness of people largely if not entirely stopped after high school graduation or once they got to college and matured over time if not during their high school senior year

Keep in mind that I’m talking about many people here but not everyone. For example I am not at all talking about or describing my past self here.

@akunknown I see , now that you pointed this out. I think you might have a point here, perhaps social media is not changing anything but just creating a medium which amplifies what was already there to begin with.  I was born in the year 78, there was no internet back then, also this was not a thing back then,  but now people have the chance to fake who they are not so they could gain access to a certain places, so they might feel like that is the case.

Yes. Social media has given people a platform to be fake, maybe even the fake people they already are, but get away with being fake. Someone can say whatever they want to say to garner sympathy or respect or anything else from everyone even if what they said is not true even if they say it is. And they won’t be judged or criticized or anything. Whereas in the real world if someone notices that you’re being fake they can judge you and tell others and you’ll lose a lot of potential friendships.

@akunknown Well only when they spot you, or they have the energy to deal with you, but a lot of times i find it easier to just ignore these people and let them drift away. 😛

@okeyyyy Good question. I think social media just makes people carve more attention simply because by connecting people to a bigger audience it tempts them into being more vocal. Some people are more inclined to wanting attention, others, even if they had no proclivity for it previously figure "whats the harm in selling myself out there a little more". In short it amplifies social attention or the need for validation.

@genericbeing I see, yes , you make a point there. I also think people in social media especially the more followers they get the more it corrupts them into becoming something else all together that they just become more of trying to please others and saying and doing perhaps what they think they are expected to do or say, is like they get a small taste of what actors and actress get on hollywood, so it changes us. thanks for commenting.

@okeyyyy yes, I think social media makes people super conformative. I often have the thought of what society would be like without anything to give us someone else's take on the world. I personally think people would be a lot nicer to one another and would value the Earth and it's resources more. In a way I guess social media does make us fake and that's why it's so draining on people's mental health. I can think of several times where I posted on social media and definitely didn't show how I was really feeling but I had to put on a face. It's exhausting.

@Nerdish84 Yes, I also think social media can put a great difficulty on us to feel like we have to put on masks to be someone who we are not, kinda like actors. Yet again, someone said if you pay close attention you can still see how they are, if you look pass all the faking. But yes I think social media it created a weird scenario for society to be living in.
