decluttering your mind with mindfulness
Daily Check-In July 25th to July 27th 2025
Decluttering and mindfulness work well when we want to clear our space, clear our minds. Clutter can cause our stress hormones to go to work and make it hard to concentrate on things. It becomes harder to focus, relax and feel at peace inside our own home.
Physical clutter begins to mirror our emotional well-being. Mindfulness will show us how to come to a solution. When we are stressed, we begin to have drawers in our house full to the top rather than neatly placed where it belongs.
Mindfulness helps us identify what truly has value versus a noise in the background. We all get cluttered in some way over cluttered closets, drawers, shelves etc. Decluttering is not a punishment, but we all are guilty of it. In a given time, we just throw things in the closet or kitchen drawer just to say it was put away.
Decluttering takes time, it will not happen overnight, we need to take each cluttered thing and decide where it properly goes, having pantry closets cleaner so you can easily find something ( i am notorious for this). There is what is called the 5 second rule where you hold something and decide in 5 seconds how important what your holding is to you.
Mindfulness is also listening to what your gut tells you, usually it is never wrong when we think of something or think of doing something. The more we think of mindful practices the easier it becomes. We begin to do that with items, clothes and other stuff if after a few months or a year we have not used something or wore a particular clothing, then it is time to say bye-bye to it,
Mindfulness is also knowing about our surroundings, not just how we breathe. Decluttering is a process of letting go of something, do we get rid of clothing someone gave us for Christmas or birthdays, it is will you ever wear it in time.
Decluttering is self-care, it is making us who we are rather than being embarrassed to hold on to it. Mindful decluttering becomes an act of self-respect. We want a nice clean home to show off to family or friends rather than it looking messy and unkept.
Decluttering allows us to go for the things we do want in our home than having something we really did not need or want. An empty space does not mean it is wasted, it means something nice can go there that we are proud to show off.
You begin to feel at peace because your home is a proud environment and should be shown off with nice things. We cannot force someone (spouse, children or in relationships) to not clutter; they have to do it for themselves.

How do you declutter your mind when things are spiraling out of control?
Usually going for a walk helps me to clear my mind. After the walk I would sit down and make a list of the tasks to prioritize now https://asana.com/resources/eisenhower-matrix

Hi 💛 Very informative and helpful post.
Some things I do To declutter my mind, I’ll find a movie I’ve seen before and have enjoyed, to watch and relax. I love listening to music. Cleaning not only helps with the space following but, I also get some energy out at the same time.
Not taking in anything new is something I need to be more mindful of. Often I will think I can do that to take my focus off whatever is bothering me and it definitely only adds to it.
