Hallo Everyone 😊 🖐

Stress is part of our evolutionary fight-or-flight response whether it is caused by or results in pleasant or unpleasant stimuli. Stress, however, can also cause a “high” by activating our arousal systems.

enlightened Do you believe stress can become addictive to people?

Stress can very much be addicting. The hormones in your body run wild and you get add or red to the feeling. Mindfulness sure helps that.

Yeah stress can be really addictive. It can be stress about anything like students have about studies and exams and moreover people have about their family, friends, relationships and jobs. But it can be harmful so people should try to do yoga and mindfulness meditation and like little bit walking and keeping them healthy and fresh to not feel stressed. 😊

HI Ami thank you for this very thoughtful discussion here. It made me stop- and well read and reread this and I could not come up with an answer for a bit.

enlightened Do you believe stress can become addictive to people?

hmm....I can see a yes and no....but it all depends on the persons discipline in themselves I believe. Those are my only thoughts and just thoughts.

yes- if a person does not recognize what stress is in their life or does not have good coping skills to lesson stress then yes it can become addictive to others. As it is a felt feeling I think.

No- if a person knows what stress is and what causes it in their life as well as coping skills-this will not bother anotherheart

That's an interesting question. I've never thought about stress like that before. To me it seems to be more of a response/reaction that some people have trouble controlling, so it can become chronic stress.

Makes sense that our brains can become addicted to the chemical patterns. I'm in a stressful situation today, taking a moment to sit outside and breathe deeply.

I agree that stress can become addictive. Over time, it does create more neurological pathways in our brains for dealing with the stress response. Also, prolonged stress leads to anxiety, so it creates anxiety also within us. Not only does our body make these changes to prolonged stress, our psychological thoughts also become, "addicted," to the stress and anxiety way of coping/dealing. It is all combined in a way. So, yes, we do get addicted to stress.

Stress can become part of our "normal" life- and it is easy to amplify situations to remain in a drama queen lifestyle.

Often it is not a choice but the end result of working in a stressful career.

It's very sad when excessive stress becomes normal to us, the gateway to illness.

enlightened #1 Do you believe stress can become addictive to people?

I think stress can be habit forming. One can get into a routine of worry and anxiety that can create a stressful mindset.

Hi Souls nice to see you. I do agree with you on stress becoming a habit. Then comes along the worry and anxiety. All this can be bothersome to another. I still believe that one can find coping skills and identify where the stress is coming from in their life. Thank you for sharing with usheart

The habits we form make our life at the end, it's important to choose them mindfully.

Hi. This is a really interesting question. Yes, I also think stress can become addictive. Like others have said, I think it depends on a lot of factors. Like the individual person and how they handle stress. Maybe how much stress they have encountered over time (for instance, if they went through an abnormally difficult time with a lot of stress but it wasn't chronic throughout their lifetime, perhaps they might view it differently and not become addicted). Body chemicals definitely play a factor. Is it similar to how people might continually seek out adrenaline rushes from exciting activities, risky situations, etc? I've sometimes wondered why I enjoy horror movies so much even though I've had a lot of lifetime stress and don't like my heart racing. I also wondered if there's another element at times, like if someone gets a lot of attention from the stress in their life, perhaps they start to enjoy the stressful situations?

Thankyou.

Adrenaline rushes can become addictive for sure. I haven't seen it from the point of getting attention, interesting way to see it as well!

yes it can feed into a desire to always be working or productive. It can make you very very burnt out if you don’t notice you’re not feeling great or making time for yourself.
