enlightenedSome people say learning self love is the first step towards healing. Do you believe this is true and why? Yes. If you do not love yourself, what is there that matters to you, to even work on healing and making better? You can pretend, or fake yourself out that you are working on yourself. But, if you do not truly love yourself to start with, there is an absence of what matters deep inside to heal and work on.
enlightened How do you practise self love? By knowing that I matter and that I need to do things that are in allignment with what I want and believe are good for myself. By setting boundaries for myself. For example, doing things that really are important to me for what I want, not what someone else thinks are good for me,...such as reading my book, hanging around who I choose to hang around--not just everyone who thinks I should hang around with them, & taking time to do what I want in life. On here, for example, I am okay with what I write. I choose what I want to write on here, and if someone has a problem with it, then, they can choose for themselves to not read a bit of it. If they choose to leave a negative comment, that is what they choose to do. I will still be alright with who I am.

That's an enlightening reply, Amelia. "if you do not truly love yourself to start with, there is an absence of what matters deep inside to heal and work on" is something that I could relate to.

For many people it feels easier to show love towards others, sadly many people grow up not learning to embrace themselves but self love is something we can learn, every day a little bit starting with being kind to ourselves when we wake up.

I agree that it can be difficult. But, it's also possible to imbibe it slowly with some awareness.

enlightened Some people say learning self-love is the first step towards healing. Do you believe this is true and why?
Yes, I believe it's true. The root cause of people engaging in self-destructive behaviour is the lack of self-love. Once people see themselves as important, their minds & bodies as a temple, they would not engage in any way that harms themselves.
enlightened How do you practise self-love?
By treating myself like I would care for a loved one. Avoiding negative people and talks, standing my ground and refusing to indulge in anything that I feel goes against my beliefs & values etc. Drawing clear boundaries also helped at times.

It seems that you've found a go to practise self-love and setting boundaries is definitively important!

i believe that self love and compassion is a very vital part of your journey to heal, yes! it's a much much more powerful tool and skill to learn than people may assume! loving yourself and accepting yourself as you are in this very moment is so important. being as loving and kind and gentle to yourself when you're struggling is so beneficial, especially since i believe humans truly run on love. i practice self love by being understanding with myself, reminding myself that i'm always going to be there for myself and i love myself, letting myself take a break when my hard work has become too heavy on me, and for learning how to protect myself and not stretch myself too thin for others. it's helped me along so much in my journey and i'm very grateful i've learned to show myself the compassion i deserved for so long ❤️

enlightened Some people say learning self love is the first step towards healing. Do you believe this is true and why?
Yes to me, loving myself and not blaming myself is essential to get over the effects of those who said I would fail.
enlightened How do you practise self love? One way I practice self love is self talk saying things like I am doing the best I can. Other ways are youtube videos like this on on self compassion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpVsedh2LNs

Telling yourself to do the best you can is such a great way to take away any pressure and give yourself reassurance that you're okay. Thanks for sharing and also for sharing the video link. Love how Padraig O'Morain's talk on Self-Compassion.

Some people say learning self love is the first step towards healing. Do you believe this is true and why?

With all my heart i totally believe in that... From personal experiences and to be present seeing people close to me learning how to love theirselves and how this simple little thing changed mine and their lifes and brought our lifes to a better place. One place where we can be more understanding, kind with ourselves and others, where we know that without self-love we can't be able to love and understand the others, where without self-love there's no way to understand what we are feeling, how to deal with that, how to be kind with the process of healing, how to understand this process.
Like i said ''this simple little thing'', well it is not that simple to learn and practise, but when we achieve this process of learning self-love it becomes simple.

How do you practise self love?

It is not a thing that i'm able to do everyday after all, i have so many challenges and some days it is difficult to remember that i need to take a step back and practise self-love, but some things that i do is in my free time going to beauty center, do things that i like to do, think about how is my mental and emotional health, think about my life in general, point the things that i want to change to feel better, point the things that i need to remove of my life that are not making me feel good, some meditation, readings, writings... these are some things that i do to practise self-love.

Nice that you pamper yourself and do things that are good for you and remove those things out of your life which do not help you to grow! Hope life will become easier in future and you will get into a regular self care routine.

I agree. In fact, my agenda this week is to take care of myself emotionally and physically.

enlightened How do you practise self love?
I'm doing to do a 7-day exercise challenge. You can join me here heart Also, I plan to resume my daily meditation practices, been having irregular practice schedule and now I would like to work on a stable/ more regular timetable.

Thanks for sharing the link to the exercise challenge. Great that you want to make meditation a regular self care practise, it will help when life gets very busy. I find when we're not doing in on a daily basis it easily gets postponed and at one point forgotten.

Some people say learning self love is the first step towards healing. Do you believe this is true and why?
Yes. Because if you're going to keep putting yourself down you're never going to get past what happened in order to heal.

How do you practise self love?
I try to repeat encouraging and positive things in my head even if I don't believe them. I'm told that's supposed to help rewire brain pathways that are so used to thinking in another way. I also drink more water these days than I used to.

Our brains tend to believe what we tell them, so staying on the positive side is definitively a good way to strengthen also the positivity muscle.
