Who are we?
WHO ARE WE?
Have you ever asked yourself, ‘Who am I really?’ Am I a wife/husband, a mother/a father, a single person, a plumber, a caregiver or a patient? 🤔 The truth is that you are a wife/husband because you’re married, a mother/father because you have a child. A single, because you’re not in a relationship. A patient because you are seen by a doctor . So all your identities, everything you believe yourself to be, are all dependent on something else. So then, who are you?
By not knowing the answer to the question, 'Who am I?', you keep on creating new identities of yourself, consequently going farther away from your true Self. A lot of our suffering in life is because of not knowing our true identity.
Until you realize your true Self, you believe yourself to be the name that has been given to you.
How would you describe your true self and your public self?
Are there situations in your life where you don’t feel like you can be yourself around certain people and can you say why?
Do you find yourself doing something you don’t totally want to do, like having a piece of cake because everyone has or to be kind towards the host of the tea party?

How would you describe your true self and your public self?
I am a person with a generous heart who puts others before myself.
Are there situations in your life where you don’t feel like you can be yourself around certain people and can you say why?
I can not be around people who are looking for drama. Those types of people put a bad taste in my life. I haved been known to walk away from people who I feel will damage me with things
Do you find yourself doing something you don’t totally want to do, like having a piece of cake because everyone has or to be kind towards the host of the tea party?
I do what I think is best for me I would never turn down a piece of cake.
@amiablePeace77
Wow Ami this is GREAT!! I say many times as I see the team or community step out and do something- that they are in my head. The last few days I have been asking myself "truly who am I"
How would you describe your true self and your public self?
A parent. A housekeeper. A referee. A teacher. A comfuter. A CNA. A provider. A cook. A zoo keeper-lol Mostly I am me and that make-up has a lot to do with my morals and beliefs
Are there situations in your life where you don’t feel like you can be yourself around certain people and can you say why?
Sometimes yes. But the last few years I determine who my freinds are where I can be me and they can be themselves. Also if it is a certain situation where I can not be me-well it isn't a bad thing. Just at times sometimes you have to be something else for someone else I say
Do you find yourself doing something you don’t totally want to do, like having a piece of cake because everyone has or to be kind towards the host of the tea party?
Yes I do many times and that is ok. If I really do not "want that cake" I do share it in a kind way. Sometimes it is ok to be uncomfie to grow and to really see how you settle with the situations put in front of you. It really is ok
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Hi Rumple, those are very insightful approaches.
I like that you bring up that it's okay to be uncomfie with growth, often we strive for comfort but it can't always be like that. Growth means taking hurdles, one by one.
How would you describe your true self and your public self?
This is something that is so relevent in my life! I feel like my true self and my public self are completely different people. In public, people think I'm this happy-go-lucky, sweet, always cheerful girl, but in reality I am actually quite a somber person that likes to contemplate things and has a pretty pessemistic attitude about a lot of things. I am not always cheerful, in fact I think that I can be quite irritable with others if the time arises for it. I am also way more talkative than others tend to think.
I believe this huge difference in perception comes from me always having to fake not having depression/low mood in public due to its stigma. So people just assume I am always cheerful. There's also the possiblity that people may stereotype me based on how I look (a short, glasses-wearing girl with a baby face who prefers to not be the center of attention most of the time).
Are there situations in your life where you don’t feel like you can be yourself around certain people and can you say why?
Honestly the only people that I know of that I can be completely and truly myself are my family and two best friends. And actually, I think there are certain situations, such as in a work environment, where being your true self may not be the best option. You shouldn't have to open yourself up to anyone who asks.
Do you find yourself doing something you don’t totally want to do, like having a piece of cake because everyone has or to be kind towards the host of the tea party?
There have been times I took up shifts at work that I really shouldn't have accepted due to things like injury or not feeling well. It always has to do with not wanting to disappoint people or have them think badly of them. It's one area of my life I'm trying to work on: not being a pushover!

First of all, as i was browsing and i found this topic. I really love this and i love the intention of this. This might be the first step of find out who I really am. Thaks for this great topic.
How would you describe your true self and your public self?
My True self (with some people I am really closed to)
- wild one, laugh a lot, jokes a lot, crazy and funny, love to be active and always want to explore adventurous activities like Escape Game, Indoor Climibing, Sky Diving
My public self
- shy, timid, not talkative and doesn't know how to socialize, don't want to do a lot of things, follow others ideas
Are there situations in your life where you don’t feel like you can be yourself around certain people and can you say why?
- So far, around my ex bf and his family: i think my ex has better qualities than me in terms of education, lifestyle, thinking concept, capabilities. So, I was always conscious around him and tried to behave and stay as he wanted. Even around his family, I needed to act in a specific way and I became even more quiet. I just felt that I needed to be wary of their thinking about my behaviors as I didn't want them to think negatively about me.
Do you find yourself doing something you don’t totally want to do, like having a piece of cake because everyone has or to be kind towards the host of the tea party?
- Many times, having to join business dinner, having to talk to someone on the phone listening everything he/she said, having something that I don't like just to make the host happy.
I guess I feel sorry to other that I failed to express myself when I don't like something.
