Let's All Talk About A Pumpkin
HI everyone Rumple here-and I just got me a pumpkin
Don't know why, just thought I needed one. Then yes I sat in my car with this pumpkin on my seat next to me-and started to be mindful of the different things I can do with this one pumpkin. So I wanted to bring you all into my mindful thoughts- come on don't be scurrrrred................
Wow like there is so much to do with 1 single pumpkin-right! I really was thinking deeply on making pumpkin bread, or pumpkin cookies....
But then I was being mindful of my kiddos-yes the kiddos
Did you ever just get a pumpkin and set it on the table and think"wow what am I going to do?" The thoughts are coming so fast right? But good ones, good ideas. They all sound so good and you see yourself doing each one. Feeling all these exciting feelings and anticipating what it will look like when you finish. Also I bet what others will think-am I right?
Well today yes this morning I sat with my beautiful not so round orange cold pumpkin and was mindful of my whole family and doing something together that we just laugh and have a good time. So guess what we are going to do with this 1 not so round orange cold pumpkin?
Yes I am going to let one of the kids cut it open and we are just going to be mindful of "HOW" the pumpkin feels. No No it's not silly honest-lol I do know there are many here who deal with some sorts of sensory issues. Or some who never really was mindful of what a pumpkin feels like except touching the outside. As we all know this is cold, rough sometimes smooth, bumpy and well a weird touch right?
I have a child who deals with Autism and some sensory issues at times. So I know this little activity will be fun for her. Have you ever just put your hands inside that pumpkin and "felt" the insides? Have you really felt how the seeds feel and all that goooo?
Simple things like this is being mindful and connected to somethig on the outside of you and also connecting it to the inside of you. I know this might sound weird, but honestly it really is fun to do.
Please share something here-anything on things you do every year with a pumpkin. How are you being mindful?

@RumpleSteeleSkin
well I know what elephants can do with a pumpkin!!!! Elephants
so I feel partially responsible for this thread!
I love to cook with pumpkins but you need to get the right type with a thick pulp not the thinner carving types
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Something I do every year is be mindful to not be overly obsessive about the MESS that happens when carving pumpkins.
Deep breaths and let it go
have fun and let it go
breath in and count to ten
breath out and have fun
I don't know how or when I turned into this controlling neat freak about things that are inherently messy and it has been such a challenge to just let it go and enjoy the moment!
@Jill7cups
HI Jill good to see you
OMG Jill I think we are twins in this. I too am so OCD on the darn mess and how things don't seem to stay on the big covered table, but like ALL over the kitchen.
Ha so we just have to let it go and have some fun!! Oh yeah don't forget to breathe.
I really do understand you on this. One thing is to be mindful of how these things make you feel and how you react. Losing out on the memories cause we are so "on top" of making sure things are neat and in order, can take the fun out of the activity. Well when kids get home yes I'll prepare things but I am doing this for memories,for fun and togetherness. OCD just has no room at the table
I hope you do have some much fun with that pumpkin
P.S. One thing that is helping me a bit more on this, is to purposely put some "mess" down in a place I'd normally react. Sit with those feelings, but also engage in another activity or continue on. The staying focused and breathing is sometimes harder.
@Jill7cups Newspaper/flyers also helps knowing the cleanup won't be so bad. Which is a great reminder for me to hold onto some this week, as all went out for recycling today.
@AffyAvo
Wow Affy that is a great idea. I always use a good table cloth not to let the icky stuff get on my table
@RumpleSteeleSkin @AffyAvo
Yes a disposable drop cloth of sorts helps a ton! But I stil freak out on the inside
And how do the pumpkin guts get everywhere?!?! Exactly what you said Rumple! I'm going to make a goal to enjoy myself this year and not bother about the mess. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha this will be interesting.
@Jill7cups
ha Jill you react like I do almost daily and keeping my house in order. Well the "guts" sometimes go all over due to the girls wanting a special spoon, or I gotta go bathroom, or dog gets up there and pulls stuff down. Haha the nightmare
I have about a week to really get mindful and stricter on letting this stuff control me. Really its just a little mess-right
@RumpleSteeleSkin This made my day! I love the anology with the pumpkin, your an Amazing writer! lol I know I find myself browsing online for hours and hours looking at creative ideas, I had wanted to get those tiny "tabletop" pumpkins, open the top and carve the insides, then melt candle wax and pour that in the top with a wick, BAM, a pumpkin candle! I have sensorimotor OCD, and, alot alot of sensory issues in general.. mostly with my hair and clothes, for example I hate the feeling of my hair being wet.. because of that I even avoid washing it some days
And OOF I cannot stand the feeling of denim or leggings lol.. I think my sensory issues have gotten alot better since childhood, but it still affects me tremendously! I can tell your an amazing parent, I hope the kiddos had fun!
@MissMeghan
MisMissMISSSSS
Glad you are here with me and my friends!! I am glad this post made your day-yay 1 point for meh
I do love to write, and I feel writing really can express deep things in a way a person 10000 miles away can feel. I really understand you on those sensory issues-my daughter is 18 now and since she was about 4 months we new she had a problem with this. I can only share that these things can be overcomed-honest. Little by little wet a little part of your hair. Be aware of yes you do feel reeeeeeally uncomfie. But place in some mindfulness grounding skills to overcome this feeling you are having. At your own pace hun you can do this. Also with some caring wonderful friends by your side to cheer you on

@RumpleSteeleSkin Thank you so So much
I'm working on it.... its so diffacult some days lol, but im so glad to know that youve been through the same things with your daughter. *hugs*
@RumpleSteeleSkin you could talk to the pumpkin LOL but that would be silly.
How about touching the texture of the pumpkin and sensing the different parts like the stem and the orange part and the opposite end from the stem. What does the pumpkin smell like? When you tap on it what does it sound like?
@soulsings
HaaHaa Souls good to see you
Ha I do talk to it when my level of "inner nerves" is at that point
"Yes pumpkin I know, I understand how it feels to get all colored, your top comes off, hands-spoons all inside you. BUT my fine pumpkin you will remain clean and always remain on the table right? Let's all just get along now" Souls that is what we are going to do in about a week. Sensory for my oldest as she does have some issues with certain feels and smells. She is ready for this more then I am. I can hamdle this no biggie. Only hard part is her losing it and going bazerk and thats when the mess begins. I am mindful of this yearly and prepare more. But this year we been talking on it more. Also pumpkin sauce with lumps in a ziploc bag is great for someone with sensory issues. They can feel it all they want and know the mess is contained. I feel positive on this

mmmm pumpkin gnocchi! with waltut pesto! When I talk/think about pumpkins, I make something similar to this (minus the flax, salt, and oil) with homemade creamy walnut pesto!
https://inhabitat.com/inhabitots/how-to-make-vegan-gluten-free-pumpkin-gnocchi-from-scratch-its-easier-than-you-think/
Any leftovers (yeah right!) can go into pumpkin gnocchi soup!
I love surpring people with these. I see the bright orange and green colors of fall, feel the potato-ey dumpling texture, feel the warmth going down my throat, and while making it, the sticky gooey sensation of playing with dough, making balls, rolling and cutting them, dropping them in steaming hot water... the one of a kind smell... I always feel like a kid while making this like I'm playing! And like an adult when I serve it! Right now I'm dreaming of the friends I'll serve this dish to before the season is out!
@RumpleSteeleSkin ... so yesterday I went to my favourite restaurant, I entered mindful to the delicious smell in the air, the sounds of the talking guests, the dining and sat down at a free table. It was nice and clean. I grabbed the menu card, a beautifully printed one, made with love obviously and started reading the menu. I was thinking what I should choose and my stomach started growling and my mouth became wet (in fact I was drooling). I called the waiter, pointed my finger at the entry of my choice and with a joyful voice I said: I want pumpkin soup!
The waiter nodded and 10 minutes later he came back with steaming hot pumpkin soup which he put right in front of me on the table.
I continued being mindful to my soup and suddenly raised my hand and called the waiter to come back. "Yes?", he asked. I looked at him disappointedly and said: "Taste the soup!"
"Oh sorry, is it to hot?", he wondered. "Taste it!", I repeated. "Do you need salt and pepper?", hoping to satisfy me with more questions. "Taste the soup!", I said again. "Is this one of your mindfulness excercises you try to make me do?", he asked with a professional smile on his face. "I said, taste it!", I repeated and smiled back, my stomach was growling again.
"Very well!", he said and gave me an irritated look, "where is the spoon?"
I raised my finger and shouted happily: "Aha!"
@kindSoul10
Nice! I love pumpkin soup!
@MistyMagic me too!
@kindSoul10
Wow Souls wonderful to see you here
wow-I feel Im right with you the way you described this all. I have not gotten breakfast yet, so my tummy is moaning. I've not had pumpkin soup hun, but it's sold here alot now. hmm I might grap some for lunch. Ha isn't that something-taking mindfulness to a resturant and sharing it there. Wow Kind it does really sound like you were mindful and with another person, and also shared some laughs
@RumpleSteeleSkin if you can try making your own pumpkin soup! It can be so delicious!
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Such a beautiful idea to use all of your senses with the pumpkin too!! :) They look so beautiful! Where I live can you believe, I haven't even seen ONE this year?!
@LisaDeRegtMBPsS oh dear. Maybe they'll deliver it soon enough hopefully.
@kindSoul10 @RumpleSteeleSkin
No pumpkins in the Western Cape of South Africa so far! I even drove 20km to see if we could find one in a larger town and nope! One year I could only find green ones so we spraypainted it orange and decorated it only to have the monkeys eat it haha! The orange ones were super expensive so I got a cheaper one (but kind of glad as the monkeys ate it quickly!). Love pumpkins and I love how America celebrates Halloween!
@LisaDeRegtMBPsS hahaha happy monkeys!
@LisaDeRegtMBPsS
aawww who can say no to this darling face

Also Lisa I so so so love hearing what others do in their country and how things are there for them. I really like that here as I meet many people and they live all over the world. I so wish soon you can really see a true orange pumpkin. Love to hear how mindful you are to even spray paint it orange and make the best out of it-even feeding the monkies

@RumpleSteeleSkin
We love pumpkins and halloween so much that we should be American! I admire how you guys celebrate it. Thie year we will go to a themed party as witches probably :)
You're right and you cannot say no to the monkey face!!!
@LisaDeRegtMBPsS

WHAT-NO PUMPKINS...............
Oh wow really-is this a normal thing? Don't they import some pumpkins? Wow that is interesting to hear
@RumpleSteeleSkin
They need to import them but I don't think they do... I'm yet to understand why they do not :)
@RumpleSteeleSkin
This is such a fun post!
@MonBon
HI Mon and thanks
Will you be doing anything special this halloween?
