Good one Obs!
I think is very important to emphasize -- label your emotions, NOT YOU. You are not you're emotions -- you have emotions, you can address emotions, you can assess your emotions but I think letting the negative ones take seed and burrow deep and multiply -- that's the battle and seems to happen in a blink of a eye sometimes.
We are creatures of passion -- that means we can feel all levels and all kinds of emotions. Even negative emotions can be beneficial -- they're part of our fight or flight mechanism. It's when we stay in the constant frenzied hyper-vigiliance mode with our emotions that things really take a turn for the worse. I think it's trying to disarm the hyper-vigiliance mode that takes work for me -- pausing, asking questions, weeding through things (even if it means writing it down scrap paper and shredding it to get it off my mind - or burning, or chopping it with scissors - the physical act seems to be most cathartic for me) and looking at what's left - live with it, set it aside, or table it and come back and look at it again later.
I think denying an outlet for our emotions - be it sports, art, music, cooking, whatever - doesn't help us in coping or overcoming, it just lets it perk longer. That's what I'm thinking at this phase right now in my own path.
The tumbleweeds have snared the train of thought... I'm not sure where I was going with this... so maybe I'll come back if I remember.
@diplomaticconfucious very good points. Yes we are not our emotions. The emotions I think of as the ocean we swim in. Thanks for your mindful post.
@soulsings
Love the ocean analogy!
@diplomaticconfucious thanks it just came rolling in :D
@soulsings
Now I'm thinking about Adele... Rolling in the Deep. ::heads to youtube and pumps the volume::
A ballad about destructive love ripe with emotions and reclaiming the self... kinda' apprapoe for this thread - minus the destructive love :D
My emotions are all of the board trying to figure out what is going on with my body and why my medical team isn't doing anythng about it.
@DanaMH I am sorry you are feeling things are so turbulent. Hope you find a safe harbor.

HIya baby eli
Love love loooooove this!!! Did I say I loved this???? I do agree grief is the hardest to deal with. Today I have a challenge of mixed emotions dealing with clients and their situations in life. Wish there can be more done for them and the families do more. I do embrace the emotions when I can, but some I just let be and let them do what they need to. I really needed to read this today. thnak you
I feel a kind of grief sometimes. Not of losing anyone significant to me. I grieve for the years I lost to depression. I grieve the carefree nature my relationships use to have. I have to accept that my past has ‘yucky moments in it and sometimes when that grief comes to visit it is futile to resist it. I just have to sit with it for a little while and let it pass.
