Mindfulness Daily Check-in Sept. 13

Hello awesome people!!
I am Obs and I am sorry for last week as I missed my check-ins with you on Thursday and Saturday. I hope you are doing well. I missed interacting with you all.
And here I am today with you. Yay!!
Today I want to talk about reading. Mindful reading!!
Reading is a stress-free activity. Many have a habit to read while lying. Whatever position a reader chooses, it seems comfortable to him. You know it helps to reduce the physical discomfort and fatigue. And reading is a good practice to be mindful.
When you read mindfully, it means you do things at the same time. You read and you are mindful.
Generally, you read sentences and think. Think for a minute and understand what sentences conveying.
Some sentences make you think more. Some make you smile and some make you read next.
Mindful reading has lots of benefits -- it provides inner peace, it helps you to get new ideas and thoughts to think and act upon, it makes you relate to your emotions and also it helps you to stay grounded.
Another benefit I think is that mindful reading increases your attention span and you find yourself more focused.
So reading is an amazing habit.
What are your thoughts about the habit of reading? Are you reading any book currently? If yes, which one and what's your thoughts on it?/

Good Morning, and welcome back, Obs~ :)
When i tell people that after my brain damage 28 yrs ago i could no longer read, i get a thundering silence. sometimes i think i hear them saying: "but you're reading my type!"... ok, so i can read 5 or 6 lines in a row without forgetting or loosing track. THAT is not Reading as in a book. before the brain damage i was reading 60 books a month, on average, AND going to college and socializing, etc. i was reading at about 900 wpm in the 9th grade, and didn't slow down with age~ i could remember a book by just opening it's pages, any paragraph, and i remembered the whole book. then suddenly, i could not remember that i had something on the stove~! it has been a part of my grieving process that i lost the ability to read a book, or magazine, or even cereal box~
Perhaps this is a poor first post for this lovely topic, but i just wonder if anyone else will see it, and say: Yah~! meee tooo~! not reading in a reading culture is hard, and usually hidden. wish for me that my 'recovery' someday includes regaining the ability to read~!
@GustyOne4U
Can you do audio books?
@exuberantOcean6739
even less able to do audio~ no way to review quickly,, poor retention of audio input,, but thanks for thinking of it~ :)
@GustyOne4U Hugs.

I will be
ed if I lost my ability to read.

@ASilentObserver
What are your thoughts about the habit of reading?
Be comfortable... if I'm not comfortable, reading isn't enjoyable.
Are you reading any book currently?
I have so many books going at once -- sooo many lovely books. :)
If yes, which one and what's your thoughts on it?
The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine Aron has been this week's interest. A friend recommended this book to me many years ago after talking to him about how loud things and people set me on edge, how certain genres of books and movies give me nightmares for months --- and he was like - You're an HSP, go read this book. It's full of so much --- yeah, that's me!
@ASilentObserver
As a librarian, I am naturally biased.
Actually, I'm having a hard time making room in my life for reading for myself, which is one of my favorite hobbies. I read for my kids (and I do enjoy that, don't get me wrong). I read for work. I've been trying ot read just for myself, but, as I said, between work and young childrend I find it difficult to find time.
I do find that when I do manage to do more reading, I have fewer panic attacks and less anxiety. This is one of those chicken or the egg situations though. Am I haveing less anxiety because I'm less busy and have more time to calm down (by reading), or is the fact that I'm read calming me down and causing less stress?
Hey Obs thank you for this check-in!!
Reading is so great, I used to enjoy it so much when I was younger and I would often go to the library on a regular basis and keep reading books :D I find that unfortunately now I don't have much time. I'm taking english literature at the moment and we have set texts to read - some of them are okay but I find that reading for your own enjoyment is much more fun than reading a book that you have to read.
I think it is very important to read and it can help you be more intelligent and learn a lot.
Hope you are doing well, take care ❤️
@ASilentObserver I am glad we are sharing about books. I take forever to read them a few pages a day but I try to incorporate what I read into my life.
What are your thoughts about the habit of reading? I take forever to read them a few pages a day but I try to incorporate what I read into my life.
If yes, which one and what's your thoughts on it? Dalai Lama writes practical books on overcoming negative emotions with love and compassion. He advocates the religion of love that does not separate and divide. We all share common ground.
@soulsings
i love re-reading the buddhist teachings, especially the 59 steps to Mind Training (Lojong). the first one is : Train with Mottos~! YES~! a motto i can do~ :D
@GustyOne4U Zen mind, beginner's mind by shunryu suzuki is a book for anyone pursuing beginners mind. Available in PDF let me know if you need a link.
@soulsings
thanks, Soul, i'm familiar with that book, and the author. thanks~ :)
Hi! I am checking in today 9/13 although it says 9/14. Thank you!
What are your thoughts about the habit of reading? I think reading is a good thing. It can keep your mind active and it is a gateway to your personal fairyland.
Are you reading any book currently? Yes.
Which one and what's your thoughts on it? I am actually reading two books. They are Randy Love at Your Service and Pancake Money. The two books are great reads. I am part of a book club called Online Book Club, where we read books and write reviews and get paid for it. If you are interested, you should check it out. The address is www.onlinebookclub.org and they do not charge anything to become a member. They will pay you to read books. Thank you!
@FaithfulPrune9638 it is 9/14 somewhere, like where ASilentObserver lives!
@soulsings Oh thank you for pointing out Soul. By mistake I added Sept 14 instead of 13
@soulsings You do have a point. Thank you!
@ASilentObserver What are your thoughts about the habit of reading? My thoughts about the habit of reading are having a good reading lamp, no outside distractions and be comfortable.
Are you reading any book currently? Yes, I am.
If yes, which one and what's your thoughts on it? My recently reading book is called "31 days to Happiness: Searching for Heaven on Earth" by Dr. David Jeremiah and my thoughts on it so far is the type to make you think.

I enjoy reading to my kids. Its good for mindfulness coz I use funny voices. Im going through The Hobbit with my big girl at the moment and that takes a huge amount of mindfulness hehe.
