Yes we all have both kinds of motivations! However Im in a big rut & I cannot even see a path to motivate myself in any way! Deep long term depression lead me to this point sadly.

I didnt like the bots much and lots of the threads are pretty much inclusive of a handful of people. It felt like I was an outsider

While the majority of people are involved in something outside their homes like work, school, volunteer work, etc... there are some people unable to have those connections. If a person has those connections we could help with external goals and rewards. Both people with aND without those connections can benefit from us encouraging internal goals and rewards. We would need to know a little about their life and always stay positive.

@MeccaMyria Hi there, you make a super solid point about social connections. Such connections are strong sources of external motivation, so if people lack such connections, they may have to rely more on internal motivation. Positivity, like motivation, can come from different sources! Thank you so much for sharing!

I find external motivators a crucial part of my relationship with my significant other. They are much more helpful when it comes to helping me (and him) keep going when things are hard, and keep our heads lifted high and remind us that everything will be okay. Internal motivators encourage me when it comes to personal accomplishments, like when Ive just practiced for a long time and gotten a lot done or had a really successful recital. They help me hold myself to my own standards and not the standards of other people.

@HaleyGrace You make awesome points with nice examples! It makes total sense that relationships do depend quite a lot on external motivation; after all, the other person is a part of the relationship, and one would wish to please them or gain their love and satisfaction. With pesonal achievements, internal motivation definitely comes more into play; you are the only partipant involved and not others so much. Thank you for sharing!

The even better question is - How to get more motivated when you're ill and depressed?

@FicaR94 That is a very valid question. It is quite hard to feel motivated when you are ill and depressed especially regarding internal motivation. If you ever need to chat with someone, feel free to connect with a listener. Thank you for reaching out, and best wishes!

sometimes when we are not aware of ourselves circumstances and other people may be helpful to motivate us and creating a totally new personality out of our usual self...but believing in our self is one of the most important things.....when there will be no one with you there would still be you...you trust yourself love and care for yourself....but if you dont trust yourself even the easiest situations make you dobt yourself...be confident and believe

@resourcefulKiwi1829 Self love is definitely a major internal motivator! Confidence and motivation definitely go hand in hand. There are times that if we are unsure about ourselves, external motivators like other people can help us out. Thank you for sharing with us!

Well, there's no way to motivate others, but encouragement definently helps people feel like what they're doing is important. So always encourage people, compliment them, and just try to be nice

Focus on the good times and let go of anything in your life that doesn't help you grow

The best way to find motivaion - for me - was to get rid off all the things which distracted me from myself.

I took a healthy distance from some people - that means that I don't text them all the time anymore; I don't look at my phone that often.

Also, I realized that playing video games such as League of Legends took too much of my energy, of my space and time.

I try to focus on myself and the things I really enjoy.
