*What would you do if your parents didn't like your partner? I don't know what I would do. I'd probably stay with them
What would you do if your parents didn't like your partner? - Honestly, I probably wouldn't care. I love my partner, my parents don't need to. It's highly unlikely that my parents wouldn't like my partner, but if they didn't like them, then whatever. People are entitled to their own opinions of people, so as long as they aren't taking their opinions and being violent about it, it's fine. And that goes for any opinions, honestly. I see people hating other people for their opinions way to often and most of the time it's something stupid. Like fandom ships and characters. It's stupid.
Many years ago, I wanted to marry my girlfriend. My mother, who liked her, told me that her ailments would bring me nothing but trouble. I married her anyway. We had 30 years of wonderful togetherness, and she finally passed away 10 years ago. It was very hard on me and our daughter and my wife's mother. Now, I am planning to marry my current girlfriend, but we have problems. Her health is a bit shaky, she doesn't like any of the houses we have looked at. I don't know for sure if she will marry me, although she said Yes when I asked her. That was in better times.
@Offmytrack Hi there my friend! How wonderful that you got to spend 30 years with your wife and I'm very sorry for your loss. Losing a spouse has to be one of the hardest things to have to happen to someone. Thank you for participating in my post and I hope you are doing well today!
@PeppermintStar0912 First time in a while that I have checked in. I am not doing well these days, my fiance has been complaining and yelling at me, and I am very easily hurt.
@Offmytrack Oh no my friend- I'm really sorry to hear that. Does she do this to you a lot? Does she treat you like this because of the sleep issues she's been having? I know what you mean why you say that you are easily hurt because I get like that too. It sucks to be honest and I'm sorry you are feeling bad right now.
@PeppermintStar0912 Most of last year she was like that. This year was much better until she had her knee surgery, she got very upset with me for the next couple of week, Now the pain is down to almost nothing, and we are doing well again.
***What would you do if your parents didn't like your partner (my boyfriend, my fiance)?? ***
This is an easy question for me, even though I have not personally been in this situation.
Oh, and first of all, I will not ever call my boyfriend or fiance or husband, my "partner." I do not have as much problem with "significant other" (not sure why), but partners are for gym class or homework, and (insert Platy's political view on this here) which I will not.
So ... first it depends on how long I have known this person and also how long my parents have known him. It also depends for me more what my dad thinks of him; my mom can talk my ear/s off if she wants to but if I've known him a long time and if I love him, then "sorry, Mom, you're out." I wouldn't ever say that directly to her, but ... at least I know that if Dad did not approve for some reason - Dad would tell me the reasons (probably logical and well thought out).
AND though he is my younger brother and he is married now ... My future husband would need 'to get through' my brother to get to me. I know nearly 100%, even before asking him, that my brother would not ever allow me to marry someone not good for me.
So, what would I do? Again depending on how long we had been together as a couple, and where he and I saw the relationship going ... I would hope to spend quite a bit of time together M&D, me and my boyfriend/fiance. In the very end, if it came down to it, I would ask my brother or my dad (Mom only kind of gets a vote here), to talk to my guy (and me-probably). I'd be like (knowing somewhat what they might say), "Dad, Brother, why should we NOT continue down this path toward marriage?" And hopefully they would say how they truly feel and why (aka don't be shy, I do want to know).
And then ...
We all live happily ever after ...... right?
~ Platy
Slight DISCLAIMER: I don't mean to make light of this situation at all, as I know it can cause mighty problems within the family. I just know that relationships, and eventual marriage, take time, clear communicating, and decisions to love the other person (and yourself).

@cyanPlatypus6370 Hi there my friend! I really like that you would take your family's opinions into consideration when it comes to marriage. I think it's a good idea to get their insight because they love and care for you and want what is best for you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me and I hope you are safe and well today.
If my parent's didn't like my partner i would first listen to the reasons why then later decide whether the situation would bother me
@PeppermintStar0912
My parents love my fiancee more than I do to him. 😂
So, no, they don't hate him but if that ever happens, I will try my best and give my 100% to convince them for our relationship but telling them about my love's best qualities. I will make them meet him or even ask my guy to stay with us for a month or so until my parents get convinced after observing him and his lifestyle as a person. I am sure they would never say no to him then because he has a pleasing personality. The reason why I would take so much pain is that I love my parents more than anybody in this world but I also love my significant other very much and choosing between them is the last thing I would want to do on this earth. Also, their blessings mean a lot to me. I have seen family getting destroyed only because the couple got married against their parent's wishes & obviously I wouldn't want that ever. I believe that with conviction I can convince people for my partner as I can vouch for his character and the person he is. ❤
by telling them*
@lyricalAngel70 Hi there my friend! I'm so happy that your parents love your fiance! It makes my heart smile to know that you are with such a wonderful person. You deserve to be treated the best! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me and I hope you are safe and well today.
@PeppermintStar0912
Thank you so much dear.
You deserve love, care, respect, appreciation, and much more. I believe they all are coming your way. 😊🤗
@lyricalAngel70 You are so sweet! Your words have truly improved my day so thank you for that!
@PeppermintStar0912
Thanks for letting me know. ❤
What would you do if your parents didn't like your partner?
Ooh, that's a tough one. It depends on what age I am. I'll try to listen to why they don't like me partner, but if their reasoning doesn't make sense to me I'll write it off. If they're write and my partner is harmful in anyway, then I will talk about it with my partner. I'm glad I've never been in that situation before 😅
@PeppermintStar0912
Honestly this is a tough one because in my culture this does tend to break up a lot of relationships :( I haven't really put much thought into relationships lately because I'm not really looking for one at the moment, but I truly don't know what I would do. I think it's such a difficult decision between appeasing to my family and also maintaining relationships with those I love :( It's difficult and I'm honestly scared for the day that it might happen to me
@TheAtticusFinch Hi there my friend! I really like your honesty when you answered the question. It's very understandable to not know what to do if something like this were to happen. There are just so many things that we would have to take into consideration and it can seem like it's very scary and daunting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me and I hope you are doing well today!
