How Does Peer Pressure work?
Peer pressure is notorious for creating mental health issues as it can have a tremendous impact on one's behavior, especially young people.
However, peer pressure can also be positive. For instance, stop gossiping, speaking up against bullying, volunteering, getting a part-time job, or trying new positive and productive activities.
How Peer Pressure Works:
Explicit pressure happens when peers directly address another person's behavior or suggest they act a certain way.
Implicit pressure occurs when someone changes their behavior to improve their social standing or to fit in. Popular trends are often responsible for this unspoken influence.

What are examples of negative peer pressure in adults and teens?

What are examples of negative peer pressure in adults and teens?
Some examples of negative peer pressure include: pressuring someone to try a harmful drug, pressuring someone to be rude to a classmate, and pressuring a classmate to skip school.
Do you have experience when peer pressure impacting you either positively and negatively?
There were several instances when peer presure impacted me positively. One prominent example was in 8th grade when the school was hosting a drama play. I walked several times in from of the bullet-in board with the sign-up sheet, but I was too nervous. However, my friends told me I should give it a try. They kept telling me day after day, until I eventually gave in and signed up! It was the best experience of my life, and I have my friends to thank for it!
Who are "your kind of people"? Can you define what kind of people you prefer to be around?
I actually like being around all kinds of people! However, I really like being around those who are strong academically and like having intellectual conversations!
@Nerdtastic01
I so love the examples and happy to hear your possitive peer pressure experience. I enjoy and appreciate healthy discussion as well 💜
Btw, thank you Nerd for stopped by at the Support Group session for this topic the other day 😊
@ouiCherie
My pleasure! 😄
⏩ What are examples of negative peer pressure in adults and teens?
Negative peer pressure can be anything that endangers a person's life and the people around them through bad and unhealthy habits and criminal behaviors. Such as - Forcing your friend to binge eat or binge-watch Netflix bunking school/college. Forcing someone to steal money to fulfill their desires. At times, these people don't even make it obvious and give tempting offers such as "Binge-watch your favorite shows, you can attend class later. One day bunking won't make a difference." where lies the trickest part - you do it once, you feel like doing it again and again.
⏩ Do you have experience when peer pressure impacting you either positively and negatively? I remember bunking college due to a few negative batchmates who would make other students' lives hell. There was dirty politics, bitching, and gossiping with the only negative vibes when they were around. Fortunately, it ended soon after I complained to the dean about them and how it was affecting the rest of our performances. All that was worth it as it taught me to be more resilient. I am glad that I refused to give up and was able to complete my medical college internship very well.

Yay! Agreed. We're not flawless, so it's important to be around those who can accept us for who we are, and motivate one another in positive ways.
Thanks for the examples Az! 💜

This is a great post @OuiCherie !
Peer pressure can influence negatively when they are trying to make you do something dangerous or risky.... but it can be good when they are trying to encourage you to stop bad behaviors, get a job etc, to go get help.. things like that.
And I like to be around people who are kind and funny. I like to surround myself with "good" people.
