Forum openhouse !All welcome !
The forums are an integral part of 7cups of tea ,sadly they remain underutilized -underutilized in terms of their potential to reach out to hundreds and thousands of people every day ,but being the eternal optimistic that I am I believe the underutilization of the forums is really an opportunity to rejoice ,to celebrate the fact that we still have the ability to improve and improve by leaps and bounds . When I joined 7cups (it seems so so long ago)and I believe I speak for many others like me,the forums were a mystery ,a maze which had the effect of scaring at least me from being able to participate for long,again things have changed for the better we can now unsubscribe from the forums and what not (I don't know how we survived without that -receiving one more notification from the listener oath thread would have irritated so many ). To unravel and demystify the forums We are planning a forum open house .now what is it you will ask ,it is a meet and greet ,no not the normal kind ,you would be meeting the forums and the numerous (60 odd sub forums). Come ,make the forums your home as @Laura loves to say ,make them your home like so many of us have already !

Hi @Laura and everyone. I've been on the site for about a month as a listener and very much enjoy the one on one chats. But the forums are still pretty much a mystery to me :)
Any tips where to get started? Thanks
Hi, I agree because I have been a member as of June 2015 and I am still trying to become familiarize with the forum. If you dont see me participating in the different chat rooms this the reason why.
On the other hand, I love being connected to the crusade here at 7 cups of tea.
@CalmReflections awesome question I would say the best tip would be to dive in and get lost,lose yourself in the forum you will be surprised at what all you will find!

@CalmReflections and @Eufhoria - Great question! There are a few ways to get started in the forums. @PoeticGuy has a great suggestion of just getting lost in them. If you want a bit more of a directed path, I would recommend either
1. Start in the "Welcome" forum - browse through some new members and maybe welcome them, check out the stuff in Laura's office where she posts about big issues and themes on the site, and feel free to comment on them, maybe even try out one of the 'getting to know you' type games.
2. Start in the "Listeners Only" forum - take a look at the Honoring Listeners section and see some of the great shout-outs and reviews being honored - or honor some yourselves. Read some of the active discussions going on about the different directions people want to see the site go and add your thoughts if you feel comfortable. Read some tips and tricks by some of our other listeners and add your own.
3. Pick a support section that you're passionate about. For me, that was the Eating Disorders support section, so I got started in the forums by going there and just starting to respond to members, offering support, answering questions, etc. I've started a few threads there, as well, when I felt that there was a new topic I wanted to raise in the community. From there, I slowly moved into other areas of the forums, but I've always kept that section as my base.

I'm completely lost here. How do you find this discussion room? Is that different from the forum? I click on "Laura's office / Discussions with Laura" and it brings me back to this thread. 
A search in chat doesn't find it either. I'm sure it's simple but I'm missing it. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to unravel the mystery for me :)

It was lovely! We had up to 30 participants at one point and @poeticguy mentioned that we would be doing more forum-centered Chatroom events. We had really great discussions about the forum, got some trivia about the forum down pat, and overall had a great time! Hope you can make it next time!
