More Forum Functionality Gone
The forum link from the community drop down is gone. I no longer know how to click to get to the main forum page if not alreadyin the forums. Is this just a temp thing?
Also the drop down list to pick a subforum from the main forum page is also gone. Now one has to scroll through all the subforums with the threads with recent posts to get the area they want.
I have noticed other changes happening on the site so wondering if this is just temporary.
@Mel do you know?
@AffyAvo Personally, I long ago bookmarked 7cups.com/forum/?s=New, which is the view I always use.
I also use the searchable list of forums, Find a forum, although it's possibly a little out of date and it only lists public forums. I plan to update it at the weekend, but it originally depended on the dropdown list that has recently disappeared, so I'll have to code a workaround.
There's a list of communities on the main 7 Cups Subcommunities page, except that the Grief & Loss Community isn't included there, and the obsolete Listener Community Center still is.
I looked into some of the other changes happening recently, and a lot of it seems to be idle code churn with no obvious benefit for end users.
The bug that intermittently prevents chats from scrolling is the one I'm finding most annoying just now.
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie I agree there are work arounds. I don't see why 7cups doesn't just make it simple though. It's not really user friendly.
Have you experienced the scrolling glitch since the update to how the unread messages notification appears? I haven't, although it's early. I have noticed though the notification appears while in the chat, but not always when not - the opposite of when it's needed.
@AffyAvo There's no workaround for Grief & Loss, is there? Seems to me no one will ever find it now. Maybe it can be merged into Support Plus.
Yes, I've experienced not being able to scroll up to read older messages since the notifications changed. But since then I haven't experienced the failure to scroll down automatically to display the latest message. That part might have been fixed. A lot of code was rewritten.
Notifications for messages in the chat I'm currently looking at became annoying, so I tweaked my browser to remove them. I haven't noticed notifications failing to appear elsewhere, though.
The astoundingly illiterate "Chats(s) is such a delight! I wonder whether our translators will render it faithfully

Charlie
@RarelyCharlie Some of the similar things for the others. Bookmark it, for those who know it's there. Get to the main forum page and scroll a fair bit or control F to find it.
For those who don't know about the Grief and Loss section, make a post somewhere in the forums and someone will eventually direct them there, maybe. Not all that different from many of the current Support Plus topics, as it doesn't exactly stand out for what it offers.
@RarelyCharlie
Hello Charlie! It could just be a genuine typo, nothing more than that 😀
It seems a lot of people are having trouble with navigating the forums as well. I've noticed that I get notifications for a thread that I've written on but not if it's in reply to me. The tag is often missing at the top but at the bottom it says that its in reply to me. There has to be an easier way to navigate the forums.
@TheFisherKing oh weird, so like no notification to me replying to you mow? I haven't noticed that yet, will try to keep an eye out!
@AffyAvo Hi! To browse all of our sections you can go to "Community", there's no longer forum categories that aren't a subcommunity so in order to browse the whole list you can check the complete community list.
I'll ask about the 7cups.com/forum link!
Mel, 7Cups Ambassador. "and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make".
@Mel I don't understand.
The Grief & Loss Community is a category that isn't a subcommunity, so it's not in that list.
And the 7cups.com/forum link is at the bottom of that list, weirdly labelled "View Community Highlights Here".
Charlie
@Mel That takes a lot of clicks to get to something like Truauma as +Show More only brings up a handful at a time, not the entire list. And like RarelyCharlie has said, Grief and Loss isn't listed there. I also don't understand why when forums are part of a subcommunity it gives them less forum options that they used to have, such as seeing who the last poster was on the list of threads.
@AffyAvo There's not a difference between forums and subcommunities at this moments. All forum sections are within a subcommunity. To access trauma for example you go to the blue list, it's in alphabetical order for those you're not subscribed to, while those you've decided to join appear on a different box over it. You have to click "show more" till you get to trauma.
All grief & loss threads are in General Support I believe! Not entirely sure but I'll check that ASAP

Partially related - can we get updates posted over here? https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/Siteupdatesandchanges_2007/
Some of the time it seems like changes are just glitches and it turns out they are intentional..
@AffyAvo
Thank you for the suggestion, we will forward it too the other admins.
