June 2023 Community Update!

Dear Community,

I hope you all are well! Things are good here. My twins just graduated from high school this last weekend. Lots of change and transition in the Moriarty home!

We’ve also had a number of changes on 7 Cups in the last month. The biggest is the new header that made the site easier to navigate. We are still working on the brightness issue. I should have an update soon. June will also bring changes as we will be rolling out a new version of the chat interface. Many leaders have been helping us test this for the last several months. It has been a big project and quite a bit more complicated than we initially anticipated. I hope you all like it and find the added flexibility useful!

June will also bring an announcement on the Noni front and some novel approaches to listener training that I think you all will find to be welcome and helpful.
I know change can be challenging. We were talking about it internally. H found this old post on Coping with Change from 2015! A blast from the past. The lessons still apply today. I’m working on a new post on Managing Change on 7 Cups that I hope to share in the coming weeks.

Hi, everybirdy! A few announcements from me from this month:

If you’ve spent time in the rooms, you’ve likely seen some users with a Community Leader role listed under their names. A lot of you have asked what criteria are tied to this. I have clarified it all in this post.

I’ve also addressed the issue of text occasionally not showing in dark mode (on the app only) and ways around it!

In academy news, we shifted the group support program’s weekly progress report from a form-based one to a forum thread one. Additionally, we created a Quality Listening Program survey to check the awareness level of our community regarding the Quality Listening Program to direct our outreach efforts better. Thank you to all who participated.

Our focus has been mainly on strengthening the academy leadership team to improve the trainee/intern experience. In the month of May, we onboarded a new mentor leader @Yourbuddy30 for the 7 Cups Internship and are looking forward to their contributions to the program. Additionally, seven new academy mentors joined the academy leadership team. We are grateful for their contributions and dedication to 7 Cups Academy.

In Group Support news, Group Chat team organized and hosted 50+ discussions on mental health awareness event. A big shoutout and thank you to all participants and hosts who made these empowering discussions possible.

On the Member Discussions 2.0 front, We made progress on recruitment front to host sessions on the topic of Anxiety, Depression and General Support in the first phase. This is the first step towards getting closer to better coverage of discussions on different topics. Also, a special shout out to @audienta and their team for all efforts to increase awareness and support on DID topic.

In the leadership news, @Lavenderhere joined us as Ambassador to oversee Verified Listener Program. Please congratulate them here. Also, many other mentors and leaders stepped up to offer their mentorship and support to the community to ensure we are all aligned to increase support for one another.

We had a busy month in Quality land for leads. @beck1 and @tabby97 became Project Agents for Anonymous Evaluations Team. They will be helping the team run smoothly, increasing communication, and creating more opportunities to increase listener quality using our quality assurance measurements.

Safety Patrol Outreach Team is working on expanding! We have added @lilacleopard and @Zayin to the team as Project Agents. They will be helping to scale the team in hopes of a future expansion into more safety areas across the site.

The Listener Coaching Team is working on revamping their Outreach Team! This team spreads the word about the coaching program and helps more listeners develop and hone their listener skills. Care Team has added @acatalepticshadow is helping to co-lead, creating a lot of opportunity for the team to grow.

The Active Listening Grading Team has taken on @sweetdreamer69 to focus on outreach, while @tobedoctor and @sirenofserenity are doing AMA to help spread awareness of these important tests!

This month, we have launched Season 4 of Huddles with topics including Anxiety Support, Relationship Support, Work Stress, Women’s Issues, Men’s Issues, Wellness and Accountability as well as Intermittent Fasting. All these huddles kick off during the first week of June, so if you are still interested, there is time to apply.

We continue to add therapeutic content into the forums as well. To learn more about the project and how you can help, click here.

New communities are also being launched every few weeks. The latest include topics like Friendship Support, Alcohol & Drug Addiction Support, Grief and Loss, Parenting & Pregnancy, Aging Up Support, ADHD, Autism, 20 & Over Community, as well as Community Challenges. Some of the latest fun topics being added are communities for TV & Movies, Music & Dance, Arts & Crafts, Reading & Writing, as well as Poetry.

We have made headway with the forum restructuring and have completed about 40 % of the communities such as Addiction Support, Disability Support, Around the World, Bipolar, Schizophrenia and Psychosis among others. We are going to continue working on the remainder of the communities in the coming weeks.
