December 9: Read only Guest Support

User Profile: Laura
Laura December 9th, 2016

Hello all!

As many of you have been following, in this thread, we annonced the closure of the Guest Support room. We are excited to announce that we now have a read-only feature for guests! Any guest who wants in the room will be prompted to create a 7 Cups member account.

Note: The member community is now a read only guest room. The subtext "member / guest" indicates that guests can read the content of the room.

As @Heather explained in this thread:

"We do not wish to completely exclude guests from the rooms and are currently planning a feature that will allow guests to view the conversation in rooms. They will need a member account to actively participate (much like how the forum works), but will still be able to see what is going on and follow support sessions. Many websites do request that users sign up for accounts to use various features. On 7 Cups we do not ask you to provide personal details (e.g. your real name) in order to create an account, so it is absolutely possible to do so and still remain anonymous. Additionally, guests are still able to seek support in 1-1 chats and use the free growth path without an account. "

Over the next few days and weeks, we will continue to experiment with this udpate. This will mean chancing the room names & working with all of you to figure out how to best use the feature. Please follow this thread for updates!

@sunnyTortoise1881 exactly, i see the point. Its people like you who are being discriminated as guests by the mods and closing down rooms. Giving guests who cant make accounts no way to get support.

@sympatheticPrune6704 maybe you're unaware, actually as a member you don't have to pay. If you choose to go through with the more enhanced growth path you do, but there are many of us members that use this site, and they don't charge us.

Whether as guest or member, there are many options for us to receive support here, through forums, 1-1 conversations with listeners and using growth path. I'm sorry youre feeling discouraged and frustrated with this new change, but perhaps in time the solution will be worked out, and who knows, maybe guest support will return? Never know what must happen. I think they're doing their best to ensure this is a safe place for all, and working through options to do that.

I'm not sure why a guest couldn't make a member account when it's entirely free and anonymous; they don't have to use their real name or a valid e-mail address either.

Having a member account is totally free and anonymous! If you want a therapist though, you have to pay but there's no pressure for you to have one. You can still get great support from listeners and the forums, all for free. :)

Thanks for trying everyone, Laura, staff. 7cups wouldn't be here if no one was trying. I really appreciate your efforts and hope you continue exploring options.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, those who disagree with this idea. I appreciate that.

I appreciate the feedback, but a lot of the feedback is hurting me.

I was a guest once. There is a lot of generalizing about guests on this thread. That's hurtful. Are guests unwelcome to take part?

I was a guest once who had a great 1-on-1 chat. There is a lot of generalizing about staff on this thread (assumptions that staff hates guests) and I feel for the staff here. That's hurtful. Are listeners and staff unwelcome to take part?

I lurk in rooms. There is a lot of generalizing that lurking guests will judge one-sidedly. If you knew I was there and not listed in Participating List would you exclude me from your conversation like you want to exclude the guests? Would you assume I was judging you? That is hurtful. Are other members who used to be guests unwelcome to take part?

We are all essentially anonymous here.

Your fears are very personal and understandable, but they are also excluding a lot of people who socialize differently and learn differently and grow differently from how you grow.

There has to be some middle ground where everyone can feel comfortable. No place is a utopia.

I think a guests watching list is a great idea. I think a [name] [g] enters/leaves message is a great idea.

Steps are still steps. If they are steps backward as you fear, we can undo them in the future I'm sure.

There is always something to try to hope for, isn't there?

Try to be supportive and open-minded and empathetic of all other people: guests, new members, old members, listeners, staff. We are all here to try to help each other.

@wontsleepwontwake

Thank you for sharing your point of view.

I think most of us were a guest for at least a short period of time. It's pretty natural to check out a site a little bit before signing up. I also know that many people who have accounts would use guests accounts, I've done it and I've heard of mods doing it too.

Can anyone make an account here? Sure

Is everyone who wants to use this site comfortable doing that? No. I feel like more could be done to empathize with people who don't want to make an account for whatever reason.

I don't see the changes being done as something to punish the guests, but rather to deal with a problem. Unfortunately that does have a negative impact on some of the guests and I feel for the ones who make their way to the forums and read unsupportive comments.

Is not about helping people, is not about kindness, is about money.... Now that guests are not welcome here, you're going to get a lot of money from all the curious that will make the account just to find out that this site isn't what it says it is.... Great job Stigmatizing people, great job banning Trolls, I mean, Guests!, AWESOME!!!

People can choose to pay for a membership, this is already an option for people who have enough money and decide the help the community by funding them. I am one of the many listeners who have decided to fund this project. As a listener you can decide to give no money at all or give any sum of money as a monthly donation. The fact that some members decide to pay for a subscription and some listeners decide to donate makes it free for other members and listeners...

If you have a free membership that is perfectly fine and if I pick up a conversation of a guest or member I can't even see if they have a paid subscription or a free one and it doesn't concern me. I signed up as a listener to help people, that's the only reason...

I assume you have a free membership since you say it "will change" in the future. If it would ever come to a point where every members gets charged don't you think it would be the end of the community? This is not hard to imagine because even facebook (a very powerfull corporation) knows that charging its members would be self destructing.

Anyway, when I enter a conversation (check my profile, i've done it quite a lot) I don't care if i'm talking to a member or a guest... What I care about is the issue that person is experiencing and i'll try to be of service to the best of my abilities...

@AgentMay08 I have seen listeners have their posts edited before, I'm not sure if it has happened to a moderator in the forums before. I know I have seen moderators behave inappropriate in chatrooms and action was taken on them too.

If you see a listener or a moderator breaking the rules, you can report them too. I'm a member who has the ability to edit forum posts. I don't get a list of flags, but if you tag me I will respond to inappropriate posts equally, regardless of who did the posting.

@humorousHuman3303 That occurred in a chat room?

I'm with you, I find it very frustrating when moderators behave inappropriately and I have seen it happen more than once. Like members, mods are given chances for bad days. Also, sometimes people just can't handle modding well even if they are a great listener.

There is a process in place for dealing wtih moderators who are acting inappropriately, although I don't know the specifics of it myself. Using the moderator report form does get results but we don't always see what's being done.

If you have concerns about standards for group chat room moderator, @Heather is the one to talk to.

@humorousHuman3303 That's a completely different issue separate to the one OP mentioned. I've been banned for no reason/without warning at all myself two/three times, once knowing exactly which mod did it, I've done my part emailing about it and there's nothing else I can do, but I understand why these measures are put into place as well because trolling/spamming is really annoying and it's easier to trace accounts that troll if they're member accounts.

...I've done myself a favour and stopped using Group Chat alltogether except for guided discussions though

To be honest, I genuinely forget that I can moderate listeners because I generally have no issue with them, but if a listener isn't behaving appropriately, we're encouraged to message them privately to discuss it. It wouldn't be professional to bring it up in the chat room in front of others. You also can't see when someone's being given a warning or being privately messaged so you can't assume they're getting away with things.

I'm not thrilled with these changes, but I also understand why they were done.

When I joined, all of the rooms on the member side were accessible to everyone. We knew people could lurk, but it was also free for anyone to join in. There was no rule about the number of accounts one could have, or sharing information about other accounts. Sometimes a guest would come in and state which listener/member they were, they just didn't bother to sign in at that moment. Sometimes people like the anonymity.

I know there were changes before I joined too. At one point there were no chat rooms. There was a time when they were only opened for periods of time when a moderator was present.

Things weren't perfect, but overall things were more supportive than what I had seen in the guest support room before it closed. I don't know if the site went back to the same set up if things would go back to as they were though. As accounts got banned, people would get upset. There are more people who know about 7cups now than before.

Ideally, I would love to have multiple support rooms with multiple topics opened up for all. Unless there are better methods for removing people who are purposely causing trouble though, I don't know how that can happen. For a while we didn't have issues with people writing code to spam the rooms. That happens more often now with people needing a member account to post compared to before. I think it would be even worse if they were opened to everyone again.

@AffyAvo

I agree with this. While I support the current decision I will acknowledge that I wish it could have been avoided. It was clear that some guests caused some problems in the guest chatroom and I will admit that a lot of guests did not violate any rules but a community has to act responsible and sometimes there is no "perfect sollution" and it will consider one of many less then perfect sollutions.

Laura made clear that this new approach will be evaluated and like any community we will grow over time. If there is a foolproof way that makes it possible to have a guest chatroom free of any spam, abusive behaviour, etc.. i'm sure the community will pursue such a sollution.

I have a background in computer science myself and as AffyAvo says, the current guest chatroom was not only not very supportive when there where no moderators, it was also a potential vulnerability for the whole website. We live in a world where technology such as the onion router project allows anyone to mask his IP and do whatever he wants. Combine that with fact that modern botnets are starting to use tor relays to take down websites using a DDos attack and it's not hard to see how a totally unprotective chatroom (connected to a database and a server) causes a sitewide concern.

I only support this decision because of the current reality and the community will always change as technology changes. It bottles down to a few core principles. Any guest chatroom should be

+ A safe haven for guests (supportive and informative)
+ Technically safe and (relatively) unexploitable.

I'm sure that if, in the future there is some way to garantuee those core principles this might evolve into another update.

whats exciting in having a read-only feature for guests! its not going to help them or something, like is it exciting for us to see a homeless person looking at all the people eating food at a good restaurant? and then, after the homless person makes an effort and saves money just to go to that particular restaurant and then he finds that the food in that restaurant isnt that good, and the service of the restaurant isnt that good either, he gets dissapointed a lot.

but then again, why would the restaurant care about the homeless man? they are getting their money arent they :p

@sam2410 I am not sure how the talk of money fits in here. Becoming a member is absolutely free, joining chatrooms is absolutely free. Correcting your comparison - this change is like displaying products in the window of a shop so more people can step in. There is no fee to enter the shop and browse further.

I like your analogy and the metaphor you use to make your point however if we picture 7cups as a restaurant and homeless people as "guests" looking through the windows of the restaurant. Isn't it great that 7cups allows those people to see the dishes and see how the waiters behave and then... decide to walk into the restaurant and receive the same menu and service, totally free of charge... After they have finished their dinner the waiter doesn't bring the bill, instead he says "I hope you enjoyed your dinner and we hope to see you here again later today, tomorrow or whenever you want to. We will provide you with food for as long as you need it and you will never have to pay for it..."

I actually like to go out and have enjoy a nice dinner and what makes do you know what makes me feel right at home in a restaurant ? Well, the moment I walk in and the owner or host of the restaurant shakes my hand and says "How wonderfull to see you again! Please allow me so seat you at your favorite table... You told me you enjoy Portuguese wine and we will serve a great wine from Douro with one of the dishes... Enjoy your evening!"

That's the kind of service you can only expect in a restaurant where you aren't a stranger ;).

@PoolOfBrokenMemories

nuuuuuu D:

1) i didnt say the food is free! i did mention that they need to make an effort to get in to the restaurant which is making account..that means..they are actually spending some of their time to make their account (lets take the time as them spending money to get the food) and the backing up 7cups (its like donating the money to the restaurant to make it better)

2) "Isn't it great that 7cups allows those people to see the dishes and see how the waiters behave and then... decide to walk into the restaurant and receive the same menu and service"
A) the dishes might look good, but just cause it looks good doesnt mean it would taste good.

B) and .just cause few of waiters behave good, doesnt mean everyone will behave good (its just like a person goes to africa and gets to drink clean water as much as he/she wants and he/she says "who said africa doesnt has clean water? and has water scarcity?its all false" so does it mean that there is no scarcity of water in africa just cause they get to drink clean water as much as they want in africa?)

3)"After they have finished their dinner the waiter doesn't bring the bill, instead he says "I hope you enjoyed your dinner and we hope to see you here again later today, tomorrow or whenever you want to. We will provide you with food for as long as you need it and you will never have to pay for it..."

yes, the waiter will say that "i hope you enjoyed your dinner and we hope to see you here again later today/tomorrow/whenerver you want to" but what if the person didnt really enjoy it? there can be three out comes

A)they leave and never come back, cause they didnt like the dinner B)the person can raise their voice, for not being good, and get kicked by the manager just to make sure they dont ruin the rep of their restaurant C)when it comes to one customer(member) not liking another customer(member) cause of the attitude, the problem gets solved, and some times the bad waiters(listeners) can be removed too, cause of their behavior unless they dont have some good ties with the manager(moderator), and when it comes to complaining of the manager(moderators) it doesnt go well, ive been a customer since a long time, and i see many rude managers still roaming around in the restaurant.

4)"I actually like to go out and have enjoy a nice dinner and what makes do you know what makes me feel right at home in a restaurant ? Well, the moment I walk in and the owner or host of the restaurant shakes my hand and says "How wonderfull to see you again! Please allow me so seat you at your favorite table... You told me you enjoy Portuguese wine and we will serve a great wine from Douro with one of the dishes... Enjoy your evening!"

A)people come to a restaurant cause they arent getting any food at home. B)we cant say that the same host is around, all the time to shake, but most of the time customers(members) have to help each other out. and as a fellow customer they share few stuff with each other about the restaurant whether its good or bad. and some times, the customers ignore others, by which the customer feels alone and they leave. (and you never know how many left the place like that) C) wine or any alcohol content isnt served/sold here, alcohol is strictly prohibited over here.

i know most of the members are just thinking that "yay we finally got rid of trolls" you are just thinking it from your point of view, just cause you dont see them in a particular room which you go often doesnt mean that they arent trolling in other rooms,, lol i wonder who would try to create an account mostly? A TROLL or A GUEST.

A GUEST is a random stranger who comes on to this site. he might create an account once, if he/she doesnt get any help they wont come back. they might even tell other people "this site isnt that helpful" by which few people might not visit the site

A TROLL is a person who comes to the site once or twice for fun just to mess around, and few are very dedicated to a particular site, you mute them/ban them 20 times they still come with new account, and they might even tell their fellow trolls "hey man you should try this site, its fun we both can troll around" and i was away from this site like for 3 months..and when i came back, i just found out few trolls became mods...and i was like "how are these people trying to get rid of trolls?" i think you guys are doing better at getting rid of members, cause i see trolls coming back but not the members who left the site.

i wont blame you guys for supporting the shutting down of the guest support though! :) cause the basic nature of human is to think about themselves, making situations according to their likes, and then care about others..if there is something which they find good for them but not for others they just try to dig the positive points out leaving out the negative points. so they can get their favourite decision elected.

people now a days are like this:

a)few believe in what others say like "what they did is right" can we say they dont have the capacity to think? b)few will just agree cause they dont like to raise voice against it so they dont get into mess. c)few think about both the positive and the negative outcomes, but if there are high negatives and less positives about the situation, and those positive stuff means a lot to them, but it might effect others negatively..they would think about themselves and go for the situation with less positive outcomes, cause its benifits a particular individual d)few think about both the positive and negative outcomes, and they choose to go for that decision which is better for everyone.

and guest support is a place where guests get support from listeners/members if there are any trolls you can use your mute button right? and if you are a listener and you get a guest to listen and they turn out to be a troll, and do you find that as a big problem? you might even get trolls from the requests too(let it be personal or the one which you choose) you couldve avoided trolls by the so called following simple rules of 7cups "muting them" even a guest has a mute button(or had) they can/couldve muted the people whom they feel uncomfortable with.

i can simply sit calm, without adding posts to this thread, cause shutting down guest support, doesnt effect me in a negative way, and just not care about some random strangers who are looking for help, cause i still have other rooms where i can chat, but its just not my way, i used to be a random stranger looking for help long long ago. i just dont like others to feel helpless the way i did once upon a time.

im sorry, if there are any spelling mistakes or if i sound rude :o

Lol, don't worry. I experienced the same problem once myself and it doesn't help that you can't edit your posts :). I can see your point and offcourse I understand any concerns. I can only speak for myself but I have read a lot of posts by registered users that agree that this is not the perfect sollution. I personally think it will for example decrease the amount of unsupportive behaviour (spamming, trolling, threatening, etc...) it will not eradicate it.

I can only hope that this is a step towards a perfect sollution if such a sollution even exists. As you probably allready know I support this decision and that is not based on the fact that is "is perfect" or will "solve everything"... I support the idea because it tries to provide a sollution and like Laura said, it will be evaluated over time to verify if it was the right thing to do. If it turns out to affecting the community negativly I would no longer support it and I believe that most of the community leaders (i'm not one of them btw) would also change their position. Let's just give it some time so the idea and it's effects on the community (and service we offer) can be analysed.

As a quality mentor I believe you make a valid point when you talk about the inconsistancy of quality throughout the community. Because everyone can be a Listener and (if requested) gets the chance to participate as mentor or moderator over time this doesn't always work out the way it should. While there is a rating system I am aware that this does not really "solve" the problem, it only flags the problem and offcourse there are ways to enhance a listeners rating. Any listener can ask ten friend to register, start a conversation with him or her and leave a perfect rating and review. This is another difficult challenge and it is necesarry that we find a solution over time. At this moment we can only monitor a minority of listeners, this is done by anonymously evaluating new listeners. As far as I know, this is a general concern and the community is looking for a way to enhance the quality without using a big brother type monitoring approach towards listeners. I believe everyone should be given the chance to be a listener like everyone can be a member and everyone should be given second changes and receive extra training and guidance if they are commited to the project but do not have some of the necesarry skils. I won't go into detail but I have been removed from chatrooms for unsupportive behaviour towards a moderator (let's call it a newbie mistake) and last week I saw a listener behaving unsupportive in a member chatroom and after I noticed a moderator he was warned and later removed (muted) from the chatrooms. While a first mute will only last for 24 hour, it also automaticly makes a record of the incident and this info will remain in a database for three months and makes it impossible for that listener to become a moderator for example.

When we are talking about moderators I want to be very clear about this, any unapproriate behaviour by a moderator is absolutely unexceptable and I know that the people leading the moderator project are holding their moderators to the highest standard. I don't know if members are aware of the tools provided by the community that allows them to make sure their complained is heared. If you feel a moderator is being unsupportive in any way than you should mail either community@7cups.com and make them aware about the incident (you can add screenshots to the email if you think that helps) or you can use the moderator / listener review form . This is a special form designed so a member (or listener) can protect him/herself against a moderator. You can find the form at

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform?fbzx=5059480442595246766

Whenever you file a complained using that form it is taken very serious and listeners or members providing false information risk their account being suspended... I once used the form above myself and by the response I received it looked to me that the people investigating mod reports will go through the transcript to validate the claim.

Ontopic: I feel it is to soon to objectivly tell in what way this new community update is either good or bad. You will never hear me say "this had to be done!!!", instead I feel it is allright to at least give it a change because it does try to get rid of a problem. The future will tell if the idea created a positive change or maybe the community will have to conclude that we have been shooting a mouse with a bazooka and consider another approach.

Thanks for your reply.

Discaimer: (I do not support animal cuelty, please do not shoot a mouse with a bazooka. If you can, avoid shooting a bazooka in general) :D

@PoolOfBrokenMemories

the thing which im not getting is..the guest support was a place where only members who want to support guests are suppose to be there..so maybe 5 members were there..and remaining were guests(could've been banned/muted members and strangers) and mostly one mod, sometimes the swat team of 3-5 so..these members of who chat there can move to others rooms to chat..but what about the guest..they definetly have to create an account..so.its just loss for the strangers..not mods or members or trolls.

and ive been since a long time..and..ive filed many reports on mods and idk why i still see them wandering around. is it cause im sam? like, i was banned by a mod long time ago..and i made a report against them and they werent taken serious...later on they were banned cause they were asking nudies of teen girls on the teen side. if my report was taken serious..maybe it wouldntve happen.

i just saw today someone who wasnt behaving unprofessional, but whats the point in filing a report when i can still see them around as mods? and they say "you have to trust us" i trusted like 10times and.nothing happened. 3 chances were too much actually.

I do not receive the mod reports and to be honest, I don't know how the system works. It seemed to work for me but if it doesn't work for everyone and you did not receive any feedback then I feel it is something that has to be discussed. Maybe you could open a seperate forum thread about the issue so other people can also share their story?

It's by providing kind of information and allowing other members verify it that a community becomes aware of the magnitude of a problem. I honestly believe that a lot of the problems members perceive is unknown to many of the listeners, mentors and/or community leaders. In my real life work environment I experience something very similar… I have had many employees telling me about a problem and when I said Well, that seems like a big concern. Why havent you told this before? the most common reply is I did mention it! Several times! I mentioned it to …. more than a few times.

I know how frustrating it can be to feel you are not heard. It might be sad but we do not live in a perfect world and sometimes you are talking with the wrong person. I work in HR/Training & Development for one of Europes biggest retailers and only a few weeks ago our CEO became aware of a work methode that was very inefficient and was been used for years (almost a decade). Because nobody really told him about it and he cant analyse an unknown problem he was surprised when he saw an employee working in a way he was told too…

I remember him saying: Can I ask you something? Can you explain to me what the heck you are doing?

When the employee explained the situation my CEO replied Well… This is 2016, this process is from an age long gone. This will be changed!

Once he was aware of the problem he issued nationwide instructions to change the system to be more efficient.

A large organisation (community or corporation) always experiences a lot of problems regarding the flow of information. If you feel you have found a flaw in the system or believe something can be improved I (and probably a lot of people) would always appreciate it being shared and further discussed.

@PoolOfBrokenMemories

there was a thread about it long ago, and i even messaged the ceo of this site D: and they asked me to message xyz or abc(not mentioning names cause i think they would delete this post for mentioning their names) and i did message them/mailed them, i didnt get any reply on the mail, and i get message from them when i see them in the groups and tell them "hey i sent you a message" and then they check, and they say "we will look into this" but they never changed it, its still the same.

It's a sliding scale. Protection versus Freedom. In my honest opinion, I can't side with either platform, but I can at least further clarify them, though in some cases, there really isn't much else to say.

For listeners and moderators, I can see why the change would be considered a good thing. I'd been to the guest chatroom a few times. Sometimes it would get up to 20 people ACTIVELY participating, Turning into the chatroom equivalent of a tornado. And I'd seen a few people say extremely descriptive and unsettling things in their difficult emotions, even in the chat. Moderators try to fix the issue, but the chat is moving so fast it's likely hard to directly target anything. It gets out of hand, and then multiple moderators show up and suddenly the last hour of people's attempts to be heard is gone. Erased. Like it never happened. That didn't really happen so much in the other chatrooms I visited. Trying to filter it out, make the job of moderating easier? Reduce the possibility of situations being blown out of proportion by a listener trying to calmly tell someone to not say something? Yeah. It sounds pretty nice there,

But like has been mentioned, Guests being limited Does reduce the feeling of being welcomed. Easy? Anonymous? Free? Yeah, you can talk about that all you want, but the fact is, with the way the world is otherwise, It can very often lead to suspicion and wariness in the person who is met with "You need to sign up to do this action." Other sites doing this is EXACTLY the reason why it unnerves some people. And others will have trouble understanding why they would have to sign up. A members only filter tends to create the feeling of a barrier, no matter how easy that barrier is to cross, The feeling of a barrier is still there.

But as I said, this kind of thing is a sliding scale. the more freedom one allows, the more potential there is for the harm and detriment of others. But the more protection you enforce, the more you restrict that freedom and openness. I've been one of those people waiting long stretches of time for someone to pick up my request, Longing for some form of communication. My first visit here ended with me becoming a member and then a listener because I waited for a half-hour, close to an hour. Without any response. Ended up becoming a member because I'd finally decided I needed the help, I needed someone to talk to, And maybe if I was a member, I would get answered. (I literally thought that I wasn't getting an answer because I was a GUEST. Which is part of that barrier feeling I mentioned. Because that's how things usually go with other sites, don't expect what's advertised if you're not a member.) Another 20 minutes went by. So I decided I wanted to be a listener to help change that. The only thing that helped me that day was being able to join one of the chats while waiting.

Watching the chats without speaking is like watching a party from the hill above, alone. Watching the others get what they need, or have fun. It's lonely. It's not that way to everyone, But Bloody H if it isn't a decent amount of them, Especially regarding the people who come here. Most of them are that population that feels lonely and left out. But that chatroom I joined, Flat out glomped me and hugged me from just saying Hi. Now not everyone is comfortable with that kind of thing, obviously, but it's a different feeling, watching others do that kind of stuff, and having it happen to you. Especially in the shoes of someone who's a guest. Someone who isn't a member. And thereby wouldn't be considered a part of the community really, anywhere else.

So my point? This is a widerscale solution to fix a problem that is on a larger scale than the exceptions to the problem. It's not a perfect solution. A perfect solution doesn't exist. Well, One or two could exist, but they would be an absolute nightmare to code.
Overall, only statistics and data would be able to show how good of an implementation it is. This is a problem that simply cannot be fixed without being a double-edged sword.

The majority of the attempted solutions to problems here are in fact, double-edged swords In some way. Because the possibility always exists that someone will be negatively impacted by the solution. Leaders can only hope to make the choice with the least causalties. Though, it should be noted that care must be taken also, as balance can be lost easily, and if the balance is lost here, This place could result in being another big ambition that never truly came to exist in reality. Or fades before it reaches the goal it originally set out to be.
But that's a leadership concern, Of which I am not yet part of.

Yknow, because spamming users with popups every few messages or so wasn't enough of a shafting to give people who don't want to fork over personal details when they are at their lowest points

You can claim all you like that it's to reduce the ammount of "Trolls" but any of them with half a brain would just find a way to fake it and get on anyways. [Unconstructive criticism edited by SilentSerenityy]

I'd love for you guys to tell me different, but, that's just how it is. It isn't even the money at this point it's just about the user base *shrug*

Their is an old saying- "Do No Harm" With this new system BOTH the Guests and Members have Lost something. Guests can no longer actively participate in Chats. Members feel like any sense of privacy while discussing Sensitive issues, has been Lost. Reading these Posts- MANY people are unhappy

@ChromeLotus

everything is ok as long the admins dont get effected.

there used to be a welcome room were both guests members used to participate, people used to be all good, and everyone was welcomed. and well the guests were able to access everyroom though, and then..they removed it, i think they replaced it with cr..and the guest support..and many people were muted/banned in the guest support just for being there "it was guests only room" and then they changed the rule to "members can stay if they are providing support" and now all those members who were muted..are gone they would never come back, but the trolls who were muted, still come, so i think, all those members who were seeking support were muted in vain just for being there. we cant bring them back can we? but who cares..we still have members. losing like 30 members isnt a big thing, cause we still have 1000+ members on the site to keep it running, oh and the mod who muted everyone in a row that dayjust for being in the guest support just said "sorry" that helped in easing the pain of the members who were muted/banned(sarcasm),

conclusion: i think its waste of time in arguing about it, cause, the majority likes it, so no one gives a chocolate fudge about what the minority thinks. if everyone were a mod, including members then everyone wouldve liked the desicion with no one against it XD its better to let this guys do what ever they want with their site, and as a member as we know what we go through, we may not change the rules or change the site, but we can help other fellow members who are here by being there for them when they need someone :) cause a member knows better about other member than a mod or a listener (unless the listener is a member who became a listener, and tries to help other members when he/she is feeling better and gets help from their member account when they need help)

Hey you raise some good points. People definitely do not like being muted and some people don't come back after a mute. However it is untrue that the admins don't take things into consideration. They read every suggestion every feedback every post. What do you suggest would have been better for them to do for how guest support had become ?

@HalliwellSister

whats the point in telling them, if they care about the answers from majority. its a psycological mind set...people always go with the majority. example: people would choose a president by considering the highest votes..not the lowest.

the guest support problem wouldve been solved if guest support had a key just like TS..so only the helping members would be in there..cause they applied for the key..and well the trolls, they will be there no matter if its a guest support or any other support room..why are there moderators in there in that room then? arent they to protect the room from trolls? and make sure no one is feeling uncomfortable?

there used to be a note in the chat room "become a member to join a moderated" wasnt that room moderated too? (this isnt a problem thought this is like a tiny error, like 1% in 100% cause it might confuse guests who signed up to be a members like "what would be the difference between those rooms moderation and this room moderation, then again, its a tiny problem)

i think soon there is going to be an another problem with some room(not going to mention the name) it will have change in rules like the guest support. and other stuff will happen, which will eventually cause another problem. with members and few listeners being upset.

they take every suggestion into consideration. If you don't make any nor try to make your voice be heard , then can you honestly complain when they incorporate a solution that you don't agree with? 'Maybe if you voiced yours, it would be something great maybe even amazing! If you never voice your suggestions to the problems you point out, then what's the point ?

i do raise, they tend to ignore few and they take few(which is rare) but they just take half of the idea and apply their own ideas to the remaining ideas..it wont work that way. they just cant oil and water, it should be either just water or just oil.
