Late May - Member Email Verification Update
Ahoy Glorious Community!
We have been working hard these past few months to make 7 Cups as safe as possible. As an anonymous chat site, this task often presents challenges, but our efforts have paid off and we have seen increased quality and safety around the site! yay!
To this end, we are excited to announce our latest update. We are making this change in the interest of ensuring safe participation. Later this week or early next week, all new and existing members will be required to verify their email to participate on 7 Cups. This includes all areas of the site- 1-1 chats, forums, group support, etc. Listeners are required to verify their emails as well.
We know this is a big change for our member community and that there are potential consequences to this update. We have weighed all of the options and we believe this update will ensure both the short term and long term safety and quality of our site. This update will need to work in conjunction with many other safety initiatives. This is step one in our continud effort to make 7 Cups a safe place.

@Laura weldone! soildger! . we need more updates like these, please add my last suggestion of adding rules quiz and remember test including accepting rules button. this will ensure the safy and keep out those pesky trolls and those bad people
Yes I think it's a good idea because many members came to me saying thank god I was a good listener because previous listeners were extremely rude and were no help at all.

@Laura the real problem is the ability for people to create multiple accounts on this website people should only be able to create one account per IP address (or maybe 2 one member and one listener account) other websites do this and i dont know why 7cups doesnt of course there are trolls anyplace people can go against rules get kicked out and then just turn around and create a new account for each email they can create! its easy creating a real email account and free usually takes less than 5 minutes to set up that they can verify for each existing account trolls have here or any multiple new ones they create in the future it might reduce some trolling immediately as some account will be inaccessable if they gave a fake email that didnt really exist , until they set up real email accounts that they can verify it might slow them down a little
but im so glad this issue is being addressed i find it especially upsetting seeing people being abusive in emotional support chatrooms seeing people who are kicked out for being abusive just log in under a different account having total disrespect for all rules and no fear of being kicked out or banned because its sooo easy to create multiple accounts here it just doesnt matter what rules they break and the damage is even worse if they claim to be different new people being abusive to the same people - allow people to only have 1-2 accounts per IP addy and you will see a huge change
The reason is that the Internet doesn't work that way these days. People do not have fixed IP addresses. Where I am typing this, everyone in the building shares the same IP address. Tonight the router will reset and tomorrow everyone in the building will have a different IP address.
Long, long ago, parts of the Internet did have a fixed IP address for each person, and some old textbooks might still give this impression.
Spam (like the ad @lovingNickel3816 supplied here to support your point 
) can easily be blocked by filtering the content, if anyone really wanted to block it.

@RarelyCharlie i know there are websites where a person is only allowed to create one account there im not sure how they prevent multiple accounts maybe its not IP maybe its using cookies or something else im not a technical person at all but there is some way they do it and if 7cups can manage to rein in the ability for people to make multiple accounts it would help a lot . It really doesnt bother me at all spammers and their ads but bullies in chatrooms being abusive and pretending to be multiple different people being abusive which isnt something you can filter out or prevent since its live chat as long as people can make multiple accounts so easily
but i know its all a work in progress and i love this place right now and i know 7cups will only get better and better
