May 29 - Member Connecting Page 24 Hour Experiment!

Hi everyone!

Starting this afternoon, we will begin a 24 hour experiment. Here is everythingyou need to know!

We've recently found that 50% of people who press "connect now" cancel the chat while on the connecting page. In an attempt to figure out what would stop members/guests from doing this, we will be conducting some experiments to see which type of content is more likely to hold people on the waiting page.

Today we will be experimenting with Group Support.

After clicking "connect now", guests and members will see the following:
"While you wait, please check out group support chat. You can simply read through or you can participate."

They will click to accept and be taken to a one of the group rooms where they can either watch or say hello. We will have 3 additional rooms open: community room 2, community room 3 & Teen Support 2.

This experiment will last for 24 hours, starting from this afternoon (Eastern Time) and ending tomorrow afternoon. I'll be around to help for a while! Please come by if you're able as we'll need all hands on deck.

It's super important that we make an extra special effort to be welcoming and supportive to the guests and members coming through. When you see a new friend enter the chatroom, send them a warm welcome to our community!

Awesome ! I'll be there for extra moddingsupport as usual. I think a lot of members are complaining about the waiting time recently , the number of requests get higher everyday and some people can wait up to 30 minutes...

It's a good move. As many of the guests just hang up. I'll be there in the groups welcoming them.

Interesting development. I think that the previous update showing the average waiting time is a good indicator as to why so many people press cancel. Averaging anything over 2 minutes of waiting time, I don't think many people will be keen to wait. I'm just slightly confused, because wasn't there a referral to the Group Support Chatroomsbefore this anyway, or perhaps I've severely misread thissurprise.

Also, the emphasis on 1-1 chats is too big compared to Group Support. As in, upon visiting the main page of 7 Cups, there is the massive green"Connect to a listener now" button, but the group support button is hidden in the top toolbar. So I'm guessing the inflow of 1-1's is always going to be higher than the chatrooms, which would naturally lead to more people becoming frustrated and leaving sooner?

I understand what you mean ,but an inflow of people in chat roomswould be hard to deal with in my opinion:s

Hey 😊 morning smiles ! Can someone tell me if the waiting time has increased since the groups have opened ? I'm a Mod and I find lots of things that seem unsafe in group chat rooms ... I feel that the people spending time in groups as mods could be doing more one on one support with people that have come to 7cupsto connect ...

Sounds great! But you may want to look at an idea of having rooms set to a pre-determined amount of chatters, as much as I hate that have to happen (segregation) unfortunately any more than 10+ active chatters and it becomes impossible to follow chat... Multiple rooms that the system assigns users automatically to (balanced) would be a wise choice to prevent this.

So let's say for arguments sake you have 10 chatrooms with a capacity of 10 members each, we have 50 members in the queue, the system will add 5 to each room (balanced) and that should make things far more manageable and easier for everyone to follow. Moderators should be exempt from the chatroom limit, obviously. Listeners should have a reserved (10?) slots that is an add-on (hidden) so as to allow for actual listener communication with members vs only guests/members.

Perhaps this will also stop the "ghosts" which once you finally get to a member at the top of the list (oldest) and say hi, they go offline. The system has a noticeable delay before reporting a user offline.

There will be a pop up to go to another room if it hits 40 ppl.

Do you not think that 40 is a bit much? Wow, it's hard as is with 10 active chatters, hahaha, trying to filter out and support members and have them see your responses amongst everything else (sometimes even unrelated/abusive comments). But we will see how things goes. Busiest times luckily are when I am around, 8am-10am and then now (23:30+), there was an influx of 30+ members.
