May 29 - Member Connecting Page 24 Hour Experiment!
Hi everyone!
Starting this afternoon, we will begin a 24 hour experiment. Here is everythingyou need to know!
We've recently found that 50% of people who press "connect now" cancel the chat while on the connecting page. In an attempt to figure out what would stop members/guests from doing this, we will be conducting some experiments to see which type of content is more likely to hold people on the waiting page.
Today we will be experimenting with Group Support.
After clicking "connect now", guests and members will see the following:
"While you wait, please check out group support chat. You can simply read through or you can participate."
They will click to accept and be taken to a one of the group rooms where they can either watch or say hello. We will have 3 additional rooms open: community room 2, community room 3 & Teen Support 2.
This experiment will last for 24 hours, starting from this afternoon (Eastern Time) and ending tomorrow afternoon. I'll be around to help for a while! Please come by if you're able as we'll need all hands on deck.
It's super important that we make an extra special effort to be welcoming and supportive to the guests and members coming through. When you see a new friend enter the chatroom, send them a warm welcome to our community!
Sounds like a really good idea, I hope it's helpful for the members while waiting to talk to a listener.
most probable reason for this is that a member or a visitor has to prove that he is human and not a bot. If something is already bugging me one more stem like this after a long queue will make me disinterested.
Us Listeners get this as well. It is simply to ensure that bots don't decide to come and take up valuable space in the queues for real people with real problems. Besides, the verification takes all of 10 seconds and you're sorted. Surely not that much to ask? A check could be done at the beginning, or a clever way to detect human behavior based on interaction with the site etc.
Is there an update on how this went, @Laura ? Did we see a higher rate of people sticking around?
That's easy to answer without the need of an experiment. In my experience I cancelled because 1. I didn't think it would actually connect me to someone to immediately talk to me 2. I was curious and adventurous 3. When someone actually connected and said hi they didn't do anything else, maybe they are slow to see my response or simply ignoring me.
