September 30: Redesigned Website Launch
Hello Everyone! It's been a long time coming! Our new site is finally here!
Please take your time and explore the site!
You can file feedback & bug reports here!
Additionally, later today @krinkthemellowunicorn will be giving a guided tour of the new site! Stay tuned for more information!
I don't really think it looks that bad, I think it's gorgeous and sleek, and I know in time I'll get used to it. Few things I want to point out.
1. The text choice is very hard to read. Serif fonts are usually easier to read, but to keep that same sleek look, even something like Arial would be just fine. Century Gothic. Calibri. Something or another.
2. On the sidebar, my conversations are coming up as per usual, but you can't see a little snippet of something they said. I really liked this feature, because you can screen what was said. I have 12 conversations that I have unread, and I can't tell what messages I have and haven't read just from looking at the sidebar. A way to fix this could be to make the name glow, or change to a different color. It could even just have a little snippet right under it, in addition to these other suggestions.
3. The currently active list is way too long and takes up a lot of unneeded room on the page. A good way to solve this is to either change the code so less show, or to take the pictures out. It's a good measure but the pictures are teeny tiny anyways, and since it's on the listener side, we don't really need to attempt to see the pictures.
4. The mentor tab is a lot harder to find; for someone who is new to the site, that could be a pretty big deal. I think it could deserve a top-bar tab.
5. @Iara and @Adventurin have a really good idea on how to categorize the forums, and I think that'd be a good idea to implement now that we have this new feature. Because everything on this update is much bigger, it makes the forums look like they span on forever and ever. Besides that, the forums look freaking awesome. (1009 upvotes on my anon appreciation thread? Well butter me up and call me a biscuit).
Mmmm, that's all I have to point out right this second. Fab job, @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn <3
@Cadence
Great feedback, thanks! We're on it...
I strongly agree with what others have said about the new redesign being difficult to read. I already have my browser set to 125% - I'm 47 and my near vision isn't what it used to be! My eyes were immediately straining to read the new site! There is not enough contrast between the text and the background and the font is too thin. Please increase the color contrast and change the font.
(There is a ton of research out there on what fonts and colors are the easiest for people to read on websites.)
The new design is very sleek, but I have a bit of a concern. When I am in the chat section, the member's name is so big that it takes up part of the space where the messages are. I don't know if I'm explaining that well. The site also is now very light, which does look good, yet makes it harder to read. I hope this helps.
@Probius
You may need to refresh your browser cache.
What about a simple change in the color scheme? From white to gray for example, it wouldn't be so tiring to the eye.
I love the tweaks so far and the navbar is really nice :D only few things I noticed werent fixed so far/feedback:
-Mentor tab not linked properly under "my comunity
-Cannot accept follow requests (notifications brings us to a broken link*
-Would it be possible to have a wider bio now?
-not seeing time in chatrooms
-Personally I would prefer seeing my own pic in the chats so it doesnt feel weird
thanks for the quick feedback, Ace!
- The typo in the Mentor menu item will be up soon.
- Will track down the follow request issue. I think I know what's going on.
- We'll definitely keep tweaking the profiles as they get more real-world use. You can only design so much in a vacuum. That seems like a likely one.
- We're also evaluating chat and that feedback and keeping an eye on those issues of context (time in realtime chats, one's own avatar etc.)
@Ace13
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn thank you for the reply ! (I love the automatic tag in the forum now :o )
@Ace13
i know, right?
there are a lot of things we want to do with forums and this is mostly just a reskin but we wanted to improve a few things everywhere along the way.
replies don't indent to the nth degree anymore, either.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn I can't wait to see all the fixes that will be brought to the forum :D
no indent sounds nice ahah it could look quite weird before :o what does it do now?
I think I discovered one bug, or maybe not?
On this page: https://www.7cups.com/member/growthProgress.php
Growth points are "Hearts".
And Hearts are "Compassions".
But on home page: https://www.7cups.com/member/
On left side are, Growth Points, Compassion Hearts and Badges Earned.
They are normal there.
@someguyfromhell good catch! can you submit that on the feedback form for the design so we don't miss fixing it?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn Submitted
Erm, no gender and member-or-venter indications.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn - Is there a way to see the number of star reviews a listener has? I don't think such a feature shows up yet on the new design. (As you guys have already added back the written reviews, will you be planning to restore the number of star reviews too?)
@OrunLeon
Yes, I believe that was a bit of an oversight. We're collating all the feedback and knocking out the bugs as fast as we can.
We're also focused on the legibility issue.
This is probably not important for most people, but I would be grateful for this fix.
I can't afford better phone, so I have to use my old Nokia 6131.
This website worked perfectly on it since this update.
The problem is, I can't send any messages because there is no send button anymore. :(
Oh yeah, one more thing. I tried to imagine how would I feel if I had worked on something for a long time and when I had finished it, most users said it's stupid and they don't like it.
So, I want to say, GREAT JOB devs!
@someguyfromhell
thanks for the encouragement! (it helps take out some of the sting)
So do you not have an enter or return key when chatting? I think that is supposed to do the send?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn Yes, enter is working on modern devices. But I have phone that was created before Android :D
So, I can't use enter there (It barely has javascript support).
Send *button* was working before, but now it doesn't exists...
This really isn't high priority, because I guess that I'm probably only one who is on this website with "dumbphone".
And thanks for font update, it's reeeeeally much easier to read.
Please give an option to switch back to the old design.. New one is not mobile friendly.. Taking ages to load.. I won't be able to continue like this... And yes its difficult to read now :(
