Feature Update: Phased Chat 2.0 System
Hi everyone! As you know we've been making some updates to our interface, starting with the feed, then the headers and now the chat interface.
Today is the start of a 2 week phased update to the chat system for the site. The chat system powers the chat page itself, 1-1 chats, group chats, how members and listeners are connected together, and many other parts of the site. The new system has some UI changes and many functionality updates behind the scenes that have been requested for a while (e.g. the ability to refresh a group chat page!).
Initially, you should not notice much change apart from the chat list/inbox on the homepage which has been refreshed. Over the next few days, the updates that are rolled out should be invisible to you and you shouldn’t notice any interruptions or changes. If you do spot any functionality bugs, please do let us know.
It will be later in the process (e.g. next week) when the UI changes will become more widely available. At that point, you will be able to choose which chat system you use (v1 or v2). Once we are happy that the new system is stable, all users will be moved over to the Chat 2.0 system.
We will share more details about the upgrades and new features available in Chat 2.0 very soon.
Note: if you are having any issues, we recommend updating your web browser to the latest version
Please use this feedback form to log all bugs, and issues you have found. We appreciate all of your help to fix them. Chat 2.0 Feedback form
Are the timestamps part of the update? It's been such a long glitch where they disappear after a while that I gave up even asking for it to be fixed a while ago.
It's not super important, but can be useful to give a time to a mod or to see how recent a message was made in the chatroom.
Good to know!
@Heather225
Thank you for informing us about the phased chat system update!
I noticed the changes right away when I logged in, and I also spotted some interesting things as below:
1. The General Requests don't have timestamp anymore. In my opinion, this kind of makes it harder to decide if the chat request is pending for too long or has just come into the GR queue.
2. The messed up message stack (last sent message showing above the second-last message) is something I've seen on the app many times while refreshing, and now I'm seeing it on the web too. It might create misunderstandings and confusions in 1-1 chats and rooms.
3. As many pointed out earlier, the group chatrooms needs to be refreshed continuously to see the latest messages. To refresh the page, one would need to either use the browser's refresh button, of keyboard combinations, which could restrict those with motor issues.
I hope you take into consideration these, and fix them so that everyone would have an easier time navigating the site.
As always, I appreciate you and the team for working round the clock to make user experience on 7Cups better for both members and listeners!
@charmingFlower8111 Thank you Flower for the feedback. We logged the feedback and the team working on it to resolve it. Please keep us posted with any other glitch or issue you may notice. Thank you for help.
The load message bug from the last update is still going on in rooms on top of the chat
@Heather225
I am not happy with the chat interface. I have noticed that 1) new messages are on top of messages already sent, 2) the outgoing messages don't update on the chats box on the left hand side (website) and 3) the chatroom (both 1 to 1 and group) take a long time to load.
Thanks for sharing these bugs @azuladragon34. We're looking into it.
@Heather225
my messages aren’t in the right order, it’s throwing me off. scekdn this ain’t a big so much as is kinda odd to me but i got a pop up asking if i still wnated a page to show me responses and i think that’s kinda odd?
@Heather225
Honestly, coming online today was a shock to say the least. It's like suddenly someone pushed a bunch of buttons and broke everything you normally use. My concerns are as follows:
- Unable to load DM chats with members who haven't sent you an outstanding message that you need to read and reply to. This makes it impossible for listeners who are on web only to check-in on their members.
- Message order messing up in one on one chats, and group chats (second last and last message getting swapped places every time you refresh). This is super confusing and causes a lot of confusion.
- Now I can't see new messages in room without refreshing. This makes it particularly difficult for those of us who are hosting to actually host a session that run smoothly as it's an additional task, and throws off our flow. We need to welcome newcomers, reply to participants and keep session going. And from the app, it's hard to keep up with fast paced discussions. So having web option being suddenly broken restricts hosts from doing what we do.
- The GR timestamps went missing. I honestly don't take chat requests that often because of leadership roles. But I do check chat requests periodically to see if anyone has been waiting too long for a listener. If they have been waiting too long, I'll take the chat if I'm available. So taking that away makes it hard to decide when I should be taking chats. I know many other listeners who also take chats when they see people waiting too long. So having this feature taken away isn't good.
@Heather225
Recent chats aren't synchronised with time. In 1-1 members chat.
@Heather225 Hi, on the listener side, join times have disappeared from the general queue. This is really a problem because there's always old requests listed and we all know a member/guest who joined 10 minutes ago is not still here. Please fix this bug. Thanks.
@Heather225
Thank you for the update.
Maybe now I will be able to participate in the DID Discussions and chats.
