exam stress
(first time writing about it😅)
so here's the thing, my heart feels so heavy and uneasy, I've relapsed in a lot of issues and my family is in shambles right now, all that in the middle of exam weeks! i can't focus and i need to, these exams will be the point to determine if I'll get my diploma or not. and i really need that diploma. i just cant bring myself to focus, i get panic attacks and derealisation episodes while studying. and its just so much, I'm stressing myself out!😭 (internally screaming)
@goldenduckling
I'm really sorry you're going through all of this during such a crucial time. It sounds like you're carrying so much on your shoulders—between your personal struggles, family issues, and the immense pressure of exams—it makes complete sense that you're feeling overwhelmed. A diploma is a big deal, and you've worked incredibly hard to get to this point, so it's understandable that the weight of it all is making it difficult to focus.
Experiencing panic attacks and derealization while trying to study must be exhausting, and I can see why it would add to your stress. You're dealing with a lot, and it's okay to acknowledge that this is hard. You don’t have to go through it alone, though—what has helped you ground yourself in the past when things felt this overwhelming?
@Remina
thats the thing, things have never been this overwhelming😭 it feels like i'll fail no matter what
@goldenduckling
I am sorry to hear that! That sounds very overwhelming! Since this feeling is new, I can only imagine how scary it is. How's your relationship with your professors? Could you try to seek some assistance from them?
@Remina
no, i can't contact them on weekends
@goldenduckling
Fair enough. Hmm, what do you feel is causing all this extra stress and what do you think you can do about it?
@Remina
i just keep on overthinking on how i'll mess everything up, which makes me panic even more. i don't know how to stop overthinking
@goldenduckling
That sounds really overwhelming, and I can see how frustrating it must be to feel stuck in that cycle of overthinking and panic. It makes sense that these thoughts feel intense, especially when they keep spiraling. Sometimes, grounding techniques or shifting focus can help ease the pressure. If you were to write your thoughts down, do you think it might bring some clarity or relief? 💙
@Remina
i tried journaling my feelings down but it only made me more frustrated😭
@goldenduckling
I am sorry to hear that journaling your feelings only made you more frustrated. What about it frustrated you?
@Remina
writing everything down made the emotions i was feeling, stronger
@goldenduckling
That's understandable. Makes you think about it more, maybe? Have you ever heard of Affirmations and reframing? It is where you challenge overthinking by shifting your perspective. Instead of asking yourself "what if everything goes wrong?" try to ask, "What if things turn out better than I expect?"
@Remina
oh! i've never tried that before
@goldenduckling
thank you😭 God bless<3
@goldenduckling
You're welcome!!
Hey, I know this post is from a little while ago, but I just wanted to say thank you for being so open, especially if it was your first time writing about it. That takes real courage. 💛
Reading your message, it’s clear you were carrying a lot all at once - family struggles, relapsing into old issues, exam pressure and mental health symptoms like panic and derealisation. And even just showing up to face those exams while all that was happening? That’s strength, even if it didn’t feel like it in the moment.
If you’re okay with me asking, how did things turn out in the end?
More importantly: how did you manage to get through it?
What helped (even a little), and what didn’t?
Reflecting on that might help you create a sort of emergency self-care plan for the future, if life ever throws you into a similar situation again. Whether that’s grounding techniques, support systems, talking to teachers, or letting yourself rest without guilt, it’s all part of figuring out what helps you stay afloat.
And if things didn’t go as planned, please remember: one moment or one exam doesn’t define your whole future.There are always paths forward, even if they look different than expected.
I hope things have calmed down for you since then - and if not, I’m still rooting for you. Always. 💫
@izzyy528
aw thank you very much🥹
it's hard to say if things went well or not, i still struggled a lot with studying and panicked while doing my math exam😭 i'm stressing buckets, waiting for the results to come out on the 9th and preparing myself for a potential re-take of the exam 💔
how i managed, i'd say music helped really a lot! even if i still struggled, it helped me get a few minutes of studying in, which counted for much more than i could've done! what didn't help was seeing my peers study easily and barely stress, it made me honestly feel stupid and left behind, also made me rethink some stuff😅
things have calmed down, when i'm not thinking too much, life is actually livable i'd say (maybe? idk🥲)
thank you so much for this post, it warmed up my heart<3 sending you cold breezes (the weather is too hot for warm hugs 😆) <3
@goldenduckling
I am glad to see things have calmed down for the most part. Fingers crossed for the results.
@goldenduckling
That sounds incredibly heavy — I’m really sorry you’re going through all this. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, especially with so much happening at once. You’re not alone, and you’re doing your best in a really tough situation. One step at a time — you’ve got this. 💛
