Can giving a little help my mental state?
If improving my mental state was as easy as sending a small Paypal payment to an organization, then I would be great all the time. It is not that easy, but there are studies that show that caring about other people and developing compassion can help reduce stress and introduce more positive emotions. With that in mind the question for today is:
If you could give a donation to any charity, which one seems the most important to you?
What does that organization do that helps you in your life?

I'm afraid to spend money so I find it hard to give money to charity.
But I find it easy to give time and service to charity. I find it very rewarding. You can meet some lovely people and go home at the end, feeling like you have achieved something worthwhile. It's often hard work, so a good night's sleep often follows!
But there's always more to do than time to do it, so you can get very "sucked in" and I had to step back eventually because I wasn't balancing it enough with self care. Everything is good in moderation! I learnt a lot from it.
@Clio9876 I feel like my service to others is very important. I support 7cups with service in the sense that I try to make it a more supportive place.
@soulsings Same hear.
@Clio9876 Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I really enjoyed reading them.

I agree with others that giving doesnt always have to be in money.
Unfortunately the world lately doesn't seem to know any other way other than give money to solve everything. And if you don't donate you are left feeling like a bad human.
I am okay with giving money when I can or when I feel it in my heart to do so that such donation could make a difference. But it doesn't leave me feeling better about myself specifically. It just gives me hope that maybe things will get better for others receiving the help.
I have noticed that giving things like my advice, time and company is what actually leaves me feeling more accomplished. Like I actually made an impact in someone's life for the better. Even if it's just for 5 minutes.
But charity wise, I donate constantly to animal care organizations. 💛🐶🐈
@Luna268 Do not believe everything you hear.
Giving of your time, is sometimes more valuable, then money, in my mind.
I hope this helps.
Another thing I did during the pandemic is I made face masks for our local school district and for our local small hospital. I think they were surprised somebody would do something like that for them. I made lots of cute animal ones for the kids to make them more fun to wear.
@EmbStitcher33 you sound like you know about giving.
Now you are a grandma to many kids in that school!
@soulsings
Awww, what a nice thing to say... thank you ☀️❤️😊
@EmbStitcher33 Glad to hear this.
Thanks for giving of your time.
@soulsings
Good question, but I just don't know, Maybe organizations like 7cups and others that don't charge a fee for helping people because it is much much needed.
@soulsings
if I had to donate to anything it would be Riley's children hospital
@phillip123 Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for having a giving heart.

I can't just pick one! Let Them Live is a charity that helps pregnant women in difficult situations avoid abortion during AND after birth. I also sometimes donated and encourage other to donate to reparations funds. Then of course I like donating things to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Catholic Charities, they can always use clothing and food.

It's really hard to pick one organisation as most important. The one I'm more likely to help is one I'm already volunteering at, which I do because I already feel really committed to their mission and how they go at it.
If I pick one tonight it probably be the charity that fights for awareness and gives support to those suffering from the rare condition I have.
@WhenTheTimeComes I hear you. I like to support organizations that support me and have values in alignment with mine.

hey Soul...! I appreciate this thread...I love giving
but after some years, I realized why im doing this...im looking for a likeminded steady "stream" of people who are wanting to get better, feel better...people who are "trying" thats why I give (sometimes time, sometimes money) though once it gets pretty clear if the majority of people are simply here for venting, lounging lazying, zero intention of getting better...just trying to "flop" upon anyone who seems to have extended a helping hand...thats when I know to pull up every resources ...be it Time...Money etc...I agree with you, helping even when we are down...really, really does help, and make the difference
but it matters a huge deal the "who" of the matter....once identified the beneficiaries are not committed to "being helped" or getting better, thats instantly where I pull out....
how I wish to find a stream where people are indeed genuinely trying to get better, do better, be better...
finding it...would be the rarest discovery.

Having been given the chance to volunteer here is a wonderful thing for me and no matter what happens I always try to stay positive wherever I go on the site. As a listener I like to help people, show understanding when others find it hard to take the help offered - gosh, have you ever been in a situation when you felt bad and did not take the support offered because you were feeling so depressive?! I was for sure, stubborn to take help and so glad now that people did not give up on me! Oh yes the venting - what a relief it can be! Just having someone who listens, often that's all someone wants! Again, I'm thankful for having been given the opportunity to be here on this site to help making a difference along with all the wonderful listeners who are not judging but trying to understand. If you have any questions you are welcome to pm me.
