Ways to improve your resilience to feel happier in life
Resilience is the ability to adapt to and bounce back from difficult situations such as trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors.
Resilient people emerge stronger after having learned to deal with and overcome hurdles in life. It does not mean though that people will not struggle, make mistakes, or need help. It means they have learned to use skillful behaviors, thoughts, actions, and are willing to be vulnerable and process emotions in order to navigate a stressful situation.
There are a few habits you can adopt to build your mental strength and resilience.
After waking up, greet the day and say hello to yourself in the morning. You can think of a brief compassionate self-talk to inspire you on this new day. 💙
You can ask yourself:
How do I feel?
What do I need today?
How can I create a positive outcome today?
Compliment yourself for something you did (like brushing your hair or your teeth)
Connect with someone you like, it does not need to be a long call. If they are not available now by phone, you can imagine them smiling and sending you love and you smiling and returning love to them.
Brief moments of shared positivity contribute to feelings of safety and help to build trust and loyalty between people.

What matters is that you see these shared moments of positivity as nourishment for your own — and even others’ — health and well-being.
Check your internet surfing habits and how you feel when you do that. If there are any times you feel worse with people or websites, you can reduce or eliminate them from your consumption. You can spend more time on websites which are more positive and supportive.
Your brain is built with a greater sensitivity to unpleasant news. It reacts more strongly to stimuli it deems to be negative. There is a greater surge in electrical activity. Thus, our attitudes are more heavily influenced by downbeat news than good news. Remember, what you feed grows and what you focus on is strengthened!
Set boundaries
Many of us know how it feels when we say “yes” to something just to please others despite the fact that we have no time to actually do it. Our sense of guilt might cause us stress and even make us want to avoid that person for fear they will ask us for another favor we cannot do.
Good personal boundaries build great interpersonal and professional relationships with honest communication.
Not being able to set healthy boundaries is a common issue in low self-esteem, needing approval from others, feeling helpless or fearing rejection or criticism.

What is something you can complement yourself for today? I drove an hour to my psychiatric nurse practitioner today.
Do you feel you need to work on your boundaries? Yes
@purpleTree4652
I hope you received the support you needed from your psychiatric nurse practitioner.
What is one step you can take to set boundaries?
@amiablePeace77
set better boundaries with my sister
@amiablePeace77
Today I can complement myself for being totally awesome 😂 on a lighter note, I can compliment myself for learning how to give myself more space at times when my feelings usually get the better of me 💜💕
@amiablePeace77
Since a complement is something that makes something complete.... I would not know how to add anything to my being at the moment.
If the intended spelling was "compliment", I have not yet done much to deserve any today, but then it might depend on speaking with someone on 7cups.
I do not feel I need to work on boundaries because I rely on others to use good manners just as they rely on mine.
The concept of "boundaries" is rather new in our society and I think it doesn't need to apply on most people. Some confuse their own boundaries with others'.
Of course, if I find someone "pushy", I can say something or divert the discussion. It depends who they are.

Do you feel you need to work on your boundaries?
@Fradiga
I find coming here on the site, posting your answer is already something to compliment yourself for!
Boundaries need to be clear for sure!
Btw thanks for making me aware of the spelling error, it's compliment (not complement)
@amiablePeace77
It is not always easy to HEAR the spelling of English words, so I understand the confusion. Those two words exist in French and are distinctively pronounced then.

What is something you can compliment yourself for today?
that i tried my best🙂
Do you feel you need to work on your boundaries?
im pretty mindful about it already, but its good to work on it more
this post was great, thank you!💚
@amiablePeace77
What is something you can compliment yourself for today?
That I'm smart enough to handle and talk to people in professional set-ups.
Do you feel you need to work on your boundaries?
I never compromise with my boundaries.
@amiablePeace77 I followed through on a social/volunteer commitment today even though I really didn’t feel up to it. It went well I think.
I am bad at boundaries. Sometimes I realize it, other times I think I’m doing well with them only to find they still failed. I sort of had boundaries today. I stood up for myself even though the person didn’t want to hear it. But I still got hurt before that, so I’m not feeling well tonight.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas
Learning to set boundaries is a process and sometimes we will fail but you succeeded this time and can be proud of yourself!
When I feel hurt I need a lot of self-compassion. How can you be kind to yourself now to ease your hurt?
@amiablePeace77 Thanks
