Benefits of Photography
World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19, 2024. It is a celebration of capturing the world through a lens. Photography can support on mental health in many ways such as stress reduction, promote self-expression, mindfulness, and fosters a sense of purpose and connection.

Definitely! Where I live there's always something that can be photographed. Wildlife or plants. Sunrises or sunsets

@Tinywhisper11 It's beautiful that's for sure. That's in West Virginia. Unfortunately I don't live there yet. Notice I said yet? 😉 I'm contemplating a move eventually to that area. I live about 7 hrs to the north in Pa. It was just a place I went this past spring. I loved it there and constantly think about going back

- What do you like about photography?
Photography is gr8 bc it allows you to capture moments just with a single snapshot that you can remind yourself with by looking at them over and over again whenever you want and cameras are everywhere now. In the past you only had to have a camera separately to have one. Now it’s part of your mobile phone. These are the things I like about photography.
- Do you think it is something you could benefit from and how?
Yes I can benefit from photography. How? These are just some of the ways in no particular order, just listing some ways as they come to mind:
1. Good way to make money while being your own boss and working for yourself and not having to worry about being fired/laid off/replaced.
2. Gr8 hobby that’ll get you outdoors and fresh air along with some sun(light) and can get you walking around which is good exercise and gets you physically active.
3. It can allow you to meet people if people praise you for your photos and how good you are with a camera.
4. If I wasn’t there but I saw photos of whatever I left out of or missed out on I can see what it was, where it was, some of the things that happened and how much fun people had.
These examples of benefits prove photography can be beneficial in other ways alongside but also beyond just the photos themselves :)

These are definitively some great benefits. I also like about photography that it encourages us to get outside for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. So, it's something for our physical and mental health!

Yes absolutely! I definitely agree! Walking and just being outside has many great benefits for people. We all should be making it a top priority to be outside and walk a lot more than we do.

- What do you like about photography? I always felt that photography was a low skill art. You can accidently take a great picture with a camera but you can't accidentally paint a great painting with a brush and paint.
As for benefit from photography i can't see it being of any use to me.

What do you like about photography?
- I like that it gives me a sense of purpose and a deeper connection to things. Just the knowledge that a photo I took is unique, that nobody has ever or will ever take a photo of the thing I did in the exact same way I did, even just in the exact moment I did, makes it feel special. It's just like any other art form in that way. Nobody can create or capture EXACTLY what you did. It's a unique contribution from yourself to the world, even if it may not seem THAT unique, it is!
Do you think it is something you could benefit from and how?
- Yes! I love taking pictures of birds and other animals. Just having a visual of the things I love, that I myself captured and can look towards at anytime, has been great for my mental health.
