Hi to everyone in the 7 Cups Community :)

In a world filled with constant distractions and never ending to do lists, finding peace in the present moment can feel like a daunting and sometimes impossible task. Yet, amidst the chaos and beauty of everyday life, there lies an opportunity – the opportunity to embrace the power of now and cultivate a sense of mindfulness that can transform our lives. It is such a powerful experience of staying in the moment and enjoying all of what life has to offer in this very moment.

The Gift of Presence:

At its core, mindfulness is about being fully present in the moment, without judgment or attachment to the past or future. It is a state of awareness that allows us to experience life as it unfolds, with clarity, openness, and acceptance.

Letting Go of Distractions:

In our fast paced world, it's easy to get caught up in distractions – whether it's the constant connection to our phones, the pressures of work or family life, or the worries about what tomorrow may bring. But when we learn to let go of these distractions and instead focus our attention on the present moment, we create space for peace and calmness to emerge.

Practicing Mindfulness:

Mindfulness is not something that comes naturally to most of us; it's a skill that requires practice and patience. One way to cultivate mindfulness is through simple practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or mindful movement like yoga or walking in nature. 🌻 It takes time which is something that I tell all of my clients when they let me know they are having a few challenges with remaining mindful.

Savoring Life's Moments:

When we approach life with mindfulness, we begin to savour the simple joys and pleasures that surround us each day – the warmth of the sun on our skin, the sound of laughter shared with loved ones, the beauty of a blooming flower. By slowing down and paying attention to these moments, we enrich our lives and find gratitude in the ordinary.

Letting Go of Control:

One of the greatest challenges to staying present is our tendency to try and control every aspect of our lives. But the truth is, much of life is beyond our control, and when we learn to let go and surrender to the flow of the present moment, we discover a newfound sense of freedom and ease. It isn’t an easy practice but with time you may begin to find you can let go just a little more.

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS The letting go of control is the biggest challenge for me. I don’t really have expectations for people in my life, except that they don’t control me. It can make me cling even more to trying to keep control. Knowing my things are a certain way gives me a false sense of security, but as soon as life happens (and it always does) it is a challenge to stay mindful.

It helps to try to practice ideas like acceptance and flexibility.

@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas

Letting go of feeling like we have control is really challenging and I know many people struggle with the same challenge so you're not alone. I can totally understand that it gives you a false sense of security. Life always happens right! I like your point about practising ideas of acceptance and cognitive flexibility too. They are key to embracing the present moment. Thank you for sharing :)

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS these are great ideas for a happier life. Thank you for sharing.

What helps you to embrace the present moment?

When I worry about the past or try to plan dthe future, I am overcome with anxiety. Only when I focus on the presents do I feel joy. That is why I embrace the present moment.

Thank you for remembering the tag list! This is clearly something I always forget :) I really like that comment you made about when you focus on the past or the future it gives you anxiety but focusing on the present moment gives you joy! So so true :)

@soulsings  Tbh I struggle with being present in the moment - especially at this time because I'm dealing with things from the past. I'm the executor/administrator of my father's will and it has brought up alot of memories and feelings that have been difficult

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS hi Lisa ❤ I'm think I'm best at savouring life's moments out of those ones you wrote. Although I do try to do them all. For me, I do a pretty good job of embracing the day. Watch the sunrise, art, listen to music, hug and spend time with my guinea pigs. The only challeng es I have that stop me doing theese things is physical and mental health problems.

thank you  another great post ❤❤ I hope your doing ok?

I really hope you have had a better few days Tiny! I have two dogs who keep me very busy. They are both very very loving which is very therapeutic. I do have older children who nag for pets including a pet pig! Unfortunately, that isn't happening but they do love their dogs :)

What about if the moment feels hard. I'm so tired that I feel like I walk among the dead and that soil from the earth is falling down on me so I have to brush it off my shoulders.

I love this post! Today when reading The Power of Now by Ekhart

tolle, a quote that really stood out was “all situations in life either have to be accepted or dealt with. Why make them a problem? Isn’t life difficult enough as it is?” I hope to adopt this mindset and remember this ideology next time i feel like I’m facing a problem.

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS Thank you for this thread.

What helps you to embrace the present moment?

I find that one of the biggest sources of distress for me is focusing too much on what is wrong in life and missing how precious is this opportunity of life. When I realize this then I want to focus on things that give me joy.

One thing that gives me joy is listening to other people and what they are going through. I realize they want to be happy just like me and they want to unravel the problems they face. I think by expanding my vision beyond my own situation, I am more open to realize that I do not face life's challenges alone, that others like me also face these challenges. When we listen to each other our world can become so much bigger.

Thank you for this wonderful thread!

What helps you to embrace the present moment? I have only this moment to live and whether the moment is challenging or comforting, to me it's about being grateful to have this moment. Many sadly do not have "this moment" anymore.

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS

I wanted to come back to this amazing post Lisa.

What helps you to embrace the present moment?

When I went outside today in the evening I could smell the humid air (it rained this morning) and the flowers from my gooseberry cactus. They have a strong and beautiful scent. The cool breeze was stroking my arms and I could hear the waves crashing ashore. It was an amazing moment!
