Healing From Trauma
Trauma is a deep emotional response to a distressing or overwhelming experience that exceeds your ability to cope. It can affect your thoughts, feelings, and body, sometimes long after the event has passed.
Processing and handling trauma takes time and patience. Here are some key steps that can help:
Acknowledge Your Feelings – Allow yourself to feel and recognize your emotions without judgment. Suppressing them can make healing harder
Seek Support – Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. You don’t have to go through it alone.
Practice Self-Care – Engage in activities that help you feel safe and grounded, like journaling, meditation, exercise, or creative outlets.
Identify Triggers – Pay attention to situations, people, or thoughts that bring up trauma-related distress and explore coping strategies.
Use Grounding Techniques – Deep breathing, mindfulness, or sensory exercises (like holding an object or listening to calming music) can help when emotions feel overwhelming.
Challenge Negative Beliefs – Trauma can shape the way you see yourself and the world. Work on shifting self-blame, guilt, or unhelpful thoughts with self-compassion.
Consider Professional Help – Therapy (such as trauma-focused therapy, EMDR, or CBT) can provide guidance, support, and tools for processing traumatic experiences.
Be Patient with Yourself – Healing isn’t linear, and some days may feel harder than others. Give yourself grace and celebrate progress, no matter how small.

I don't feel. Like I will ever heal from ex turning my kids against me. I've lost all hope of happiness and normalcy . This isn't fair to my new husband. But I'm a mom. Thats who I am. Now that I'm not, I don't know how to live
@baseballmom oh this must be so tough. I feel you <3
@baseballmom I’m so sorry you’re going through this. That should never ever happen to anyone. I pray that the situation will turn around soon. Kids have a way of knowing the truth at some point. Please take good care of yourself in the meantime ok?
I don't know how. I'm a mom and a nurse. That's who I am. I hate my job. If I can't take care of me, I certainly can't take care of other people. I'm nothing and no one without my kids. I don't know how to live. I can't make decisions. I can't hardly breathe.
@baseballmom that sounds like a mom's worse nightmare, but there is always hope that more mature adult milnds in your kids will turn them around if you try to keep channels open like remembering birthdays and holidays with a card.
What if you don’t have any trusted friends, family or therapist? I’m looking for support hopefully to build a support system but not sure where or how to find that. Anytime I ask for help I’m told to do these things, though I have talked to a doctor who referred me to a social worker, she called me once a month and made sure I had food ( I didn’t need help with food I had been assaulted, stalked and harassed). I then tried to go to the sexual violence center which is a place I found in my city for people to find support so I talked to them and they ended up ending our meeting by asking me if I told them no, and to stop stalking and harassing me.. I also tried to join an all girls group for survivors through the sexual violence center and they never got back to me. I also tried going to therapy but I’m young and I do not have money they wanted $300 just for one time and I cannot afford that as I’m not working very much due to dealing with agoraphobia and depression and anxiety from the trauma. I just need a support system of compassion, I’m not in need of tough love, I'm living in fear.
@lightTiger7286 I am sorry you have not found the support you are looking for. That must be rough on you.
