Healing From Trauma
Trauma is a deep emotional response to a distressing or overwhelming experience that exceeds your ability to cope. It can affect your thoughts, feelings, and body, sometimes long after the event has passed.
Processing and handling trauma takes time and patience. Here are some key steps that can help:
Acknowledge Your Feelings – Allow yourself to feel and recognize your emotions without judgment. Suppressing them can make healing harder
Seek Support – Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. You don’t have to go through it alone.
Practice Self-Care – Engage in activities that help you feel safe and grounded, like journaling, meditation, exercise, or creative outlets.
Identify Triggers – Pay attention to situations, people, or thoughts that bring up trauma-related distress and explore coping strategies.
Use Grounding Techniques – Deep breathing, mindfulness, or sensory exercises (like holding an object or listening to calming music) can help when emotions feel overwhelming.
Challenge Negative Beliefs – Trauma can shape the way you see yourself and the world. Work on shifting self-blame, guilt, or unhelpful thoughts with self-compassion.
Consider Professional Help – Therapy (such as trauma-focused therapy, EMDR, or CBT) can provide guidance, support, and tools for processing traumatic experiences.
Be Patient with Yourself – Healing isn’t linear, and some days may feel harder than others. Give yourself grace and celebrate progress, no matter how small.

I was abandon by my wife after 25 years of the best marriage, I could imagine. She handled all the finances for our entire marriage and it wasn’t until she left that I found out we were totally broke, bankrupt, and two times upside down in our house value. We were all set to buy a retirement home in Kentucky and she didn’t show up after work. I thought she died in an accident until they showed up with the paperwork. Now I realize the severity of this event is trauma and I’m experiencing PTSD on a regular basis involving physiological reactions and changes in my bod. You are dead on accurate and I appreciate your input. I am lost and live minute to minute.
@lostman2608 I am so sorry to hear of your distress. That must be rough to handle.
There are so many feelings divorce brings up and those are compounded when people do not live up to our trust. What comforted me when I went through a divorce is that I am not this relationship and there is life after this relationship is over. I really had to reinvent myself and look at what I expected and realign my expectations in a way more in line with the way things are.
Keep letting us know how you are doing.
A little of all..💀
I just so happened to finished listening to a podcast about trauma. I have no idea if I got trauma or not. But when I was a kid, I was bullied from 6th grade to 12th grade. After I got out of school, I was having anxiety issues, and finally a nervous break down.
@tryingtosurvive2024 sorry you were bullied. No one should have to go through that.
@soulsings lots of people are mean, and there are a lot of people I can not trust.
@tryingtosurvive2024 I try to focus on the people that treat me right.
@soulsings I do too, but I have learned not to put my eggs too much in that basket either, cause they can turn on you at a snap of a finger. In recent years I had two people do that to me.
@tryingtosurvive2024 yes I need to depend on my inner strength rather than lean on others for support entirely, although I do value other people.
