Professionally- I say “No” often times I will get asked to pick up hours or stay late. I do know that I need to place myself while I’m there too.
Personally- ooof—it’s a struggle. So much to be done and never enough time. When my body is tired though I have to remind myself the dishes will still be there tomorrow! Intentionally take the time for an activity I enjoy or rest when needed. I will often ask myself “What do I need?” And go from there…if that means music, coloring, TV or a yummy snack- I do so. 💛💛

I think it's a good strategy to ask yourself "What do I need" and go from there!

Nice straight to the point! Love it! Yes, that is what I do now when I feel off. Tired of doing endless chores for hardly any rewards. Only to hear more complains and every now and again get dirty looks from others who don't really see all the time and effort I put into my work. Knowing yourself is golden.
I’m not experiencing burnout in my job, but personally when I’m at the end of my rope I like taking a mental holiday to just take time for me and care for myself. It’s hard though. I want to help everyone but I know it’s not my job and it’s impossible to do anyway.
@amiablePeace77 How do you prevent burnout in your personal and professional life?
For me the routine helps and not trying to cram more things into a day than are reasonable. I prioritize. When I am tired or thirsty or hungry, rather than push ahead I listen to what my body is telling me.
@soulsings
I completely agree with what you said here. I do the same thing myself. I listen to my body. When my body start to feel a little raw, stretched, and unconfortable..... I start to slow down because after that I either start getting moody and the whole thing starts to fall apart on me. My perfect sprint gets long and drawn out to a seemingly endless stretch. In the pass I tried to move faster to get to the end and it work! but only to get more added into my pile. When I realized I was my own problem, I felt dumb and disappointed but then I picked myself right back. After all I have been doing this same pattern for years. It is now that my body has started to ask me for more time to rest and I am going to give in to it.

How do you prevent burnout in your personal and professional life?
In my personal life I try to take things as they come and make sure I take time for myself. Whether is to sit and watch a TV show, spend time out in the garden, or go out for a walk. What ever needs to be seen to at the time is always going to be there the next day.
Professionally, Being a manager I did way more than was expected of me. My boss always use to say, "I should be pushing paper and not getting my hands dirty" knowing that retirement is on the horizon, I started delagating the work I did, to my team. I've always been of the mind set, that if I don't do it myself, it's not done right. Now I try not to stress over it. Oh and I usually take about 10 to 12 sick days a year. ☺️

How do you prevent burnout in your personal and professional life?
Professional: I try to prevent burnout by making it more fun as much and in as many ways as possible.
Personal: I pay very close attention to myself. When I need a break I take it and when I feel I’ve had enough breaktime I get back to what I was doing. When I believe I’ve done enough today and can resume it tomorrow I do that. Point being I don’t go past my limits.

I hear you. Burnout is real, and I have definitely felt it too. It helps to pause and check in with yourself before you hit a wall. Even small things like setting boundaries, making time to rest, or doing something that fills you up, like nature, art, or movement, can make a big difference. Is there anything lately that has brought you a sense of peace or joy, even for a few minutes?
As we get older, it can be more complicated to find joy.
I like to revert back to the thinking I had when I was very young and I knew exactly what I liked. Stickers, happy meals, watermelon, painting
then I "age up"
comic books, making pizza, watching movies in the bed, knitting
I expand on those
writing fanfiction, making wonton snacks, taking photos of nature
and soon, I have a whole list. No matter how silly, sometimes my big goal for the day is "go get yarn for x project" and it takes 10 minutes. but it puts me at peace.
I usually switch between diffrent parts of a project or between projects. I also take breaks and rest when I start feeling bored or tired.
I've found that I do my best work when I actually enjoy what im doing.
