Letting go

The desire to control every aspect in our lives can create a lot of stress because some things are simply beyond our control.

How do you let go of the need to be in charge of everything in your life?

I try to control my response to my lack of control. Results vary.

@QuietLightning

It might not always work 100 % (neither for me) but you're on the right path! 👍

How do you let go of the need to be in charge of everything in your life?

I know and have told as well as reminded myself while I was growing up that I do not need to control everything in my life and that despite it being my life while I need to be the one running it, realistically speaking the reality is that I can’t be in control of everything in my life.

I’ve always had extreme difficulty with getting everyone else in my life to realize and accept that along with not being the ones who control every aspect of my life. It’s like as I get older the more in control of my life they are which is not the way it works. They know that but don’t care to step away and let me run my own life while they run theirs.

@akunknown

I can see that this might feel frustrating. Some people need very strict boundaries to realize what they are allowed to do and what not.

Unfortunately any boundaries I set are violated. My privacy and my life are invaded and taken over by people who don’t respect me and take my human rights away from me. And yes I’m talking about my toxic and verbally abusive so called family.

@akunknown

This is hard. I hope though that coming here will help you to deal with the situation until it can be changed.

Thank you. I hope coming here will help me with that too.

As far as change goes, that idk honestly bc while I’m a firm believer in anyone can change if they want to, we’re talking about people who refuse to change, refuse to acknowledge they’re doing anything wrong and instead blame others when something wrong happens, and they’re always getting away with bad behaviors and being rewarded for it so I get why they refuse to change. They’ve never had any reason to realize they need to change.

Tbh I can't see people refusing to change be really happy. Somehow, I still believe that people who harm others do understand what they do but might be anxious to face the truth.

Each action has a consequence even if the consequence appears only very far in the future. Some call it karma.

I agree with that. I do think my family members are aware of their actions and the results as well as the consequences of their actions. But based on the interactions I’ve had with them it seems like they think they’re helping me by doing what they’re doing.

@amiablePeace77 With certain things I have learned everything doesnt need me to take control. I will sit with it and allow God to guide me if a situatuation even needs my attention. If it does I havdle it in due time.

@hopefulencounter

I can only imagine how drained you might be after a day full of worrying! Some people find it easier to let be instead of letting go. Let be and not cling to it.

Peace begins the moment we stop trying to control everything and start trusting the flow of life.

Letting go isn’t giving up control — it’s just realizing, we never needed to hold on so tightly!

@amiablePeace77 I realized some years ago that I try to make everything perfect. I’m still working on not doing that, but I’m getting better at realizing when I’m doing it and can stop.

At the same time, I have always felt that there is so little I do actually get to decide in my life.

@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas

Glad that you're working on your tendency to perfection, it can create so much pressure!

One thing I always can decide in life is how I respond to it.
