Looking Back
Starting over is not always possible but sometimes thinking what we would do differently can help us the next time we come across a similar situation. Think of a situation that did not turn out the way you hoped.
- What would you do differently if you could start over?
- What would you do the same or you are glad you did that way?

If I could start over, I would be more outgoing and open with people. I would ask for help and/or advise instead of thinking I had to take care of everything in my life by myself.
I am glad I went through some challenges and with the help of a great therapist have gotten through a lot of difficult times. I’m learning not to stay to myself as much as I used to.
@Lauren63 that sounds like you have been through a lot. I like how you feel being more open could benefit you. That is a great insight.

@soulsings
- What would you do differently if you could start over?
- What would you do the same or you are glad you did that way?
If I could start over, I would listen more to my grandma, take more time for myself, don't work so hard (in my job at that time), not be so harsh on myself and stop trying to do everything perfectly.
I'm thankful for the education I received, the opportunities my jobs offered, the decisions I made to improve my well-being, putting a dream into reality and joining here.
@soulsings
If I could start over differently there are alot of people I wouldn't have wasted my time on, or been friends with, there are so many apologies I would take back and sacrifices. I wouldn't change my character or my faith! 💜💜
There was a moment when I went against my voice of conscience because I was lazy and trivialising the whole thing. I would choose courage next time.
I have trusted that Im worthy of being given a second and a third chance in life. And I would keep that the same as before.
@soulsings
I would have started years ago. When I was much younger.
I didn't know that I didn't have to live this way.
@courageouspanda2006 it took me along time to get on track. It is difficult struggling with mental health issues
@soulsings
I've always been shy (ok, extremely shy) and not a fan of social interaction. I thought I was just born this way. It is caused from years of child abuse growing up. 13 years to be exact.
Extremely shy, never feeling like I belong anywhere (not fitting in), isolate myself (still do this), extremely low self-esteem (if on a scale, in the negative numbers), etc.....
@courageouspanda2006 oh no sorry no one should have to put up with abuse.
Courageous panda, you're still here! You can heal! Strangely, had an ideal childhood, couldn't have been any better, yet l was supershy? Some people are shy no matter what life shaped them to be it seems. It's a confidence thing. As a skinny guy, l couldn't imagine the courage to ask a girl out!
But my first job at 16 was loading heavy bags of cement into people's trucks. I put on muscle, girls started noticing me! But l was still too shy to ask one out! A high-school beauty let it be known she wanted me to ask her out. I did, we had fun. But,l had never kissed a girl and was 19! Lol,at the end of the date l was too shy to kiss her. Ha. My friend took me on a date the next week with a wild child girl, who laid a kiss on me l will never forget. After that, l was full of confidence and within a year was engaged! Life is strange!
@soulsings
- What would you do differently if you could start over? I would throw my ex-husband's phone number out the window.
- What would you do the same or you are glad you did that way? I'm glad I got my private pilot's license and would do it again.
@purpleTree4652 have you ever done paragliding?
What I’d do differently:
I’d be more patient with myself, trusting the process instead of rushing outcomes. I’d also ask for help sooner and lean on guidance when needed.
What I’d do the same / am glad I did:
I’m glad I stayed true to my values, trusted my intuition, and kept showing up consistently. Those choices shaped my growth and brought me to where I am today.
Oh wow, too many things to possibly list. I would not have chosen underground coal mining where the thing caved in on me and l became a paraplegic at age 24, 8 months after getting married! Hum, other thing is that l paid not nearly enough attention to a great wife and eventually lost her. I would change almost ever way l behaved in my marriage if l could, l would be happily married! If only...
@warmheartedHuman836 it sounds like you have regrets of things you wish you had not done. I try to not judge myself for those things.
From another perspective you were lucky to be alive at all with that kind of accident. It must have been a great loss to you to lose use of your limbs. That kind of loss would have produced anger in me and if that happened to you, a young woman might be tempted to run out of patience. It is sad for sure. But try not to beat yourself. You did the best you could under the circumstances. Even if you were a saint, it still could have been difficult to stay together.
Soulsings, actually, l was never bitter or angry about getting hurt. I knew God spared me for a reason though l still regret taking the dangerous job in the mines.
I adapted, began competing in 10K competitions across the country and began a pet shop. My marrage went on for 23 years. I regret not even noticing it was decaying. I was too busy, and not being the husband l ought to have been. The question was concerning things you would do differently if you could.
Not becoming a paraplegic was first, next was doing more with my wife, simply not taking her for granted ever! I would change much but it's never possible to go back in time, but as you said, learn from mistakes and do better. I have tried to do that and stay in touch with my ex who is truly happy now l believe with a husband who properly appreciates her as l failed to do. She is wonderful though and l will always miss her. But l am at peace. God has a way of humbling you when you need it. ð«¡

Thanks Amanda, right back at cha! 💕
@soulsings I wouldn’t have listened when told what happens in the home stays in the home I would have let people know abuse was happening and see if there was help available I would have taken more risks not be do shy not allow abuse to effect me as it did and venture out more
- One thing I’m happy about is that I never got caught up In abusing a substance or going to jail. I guess I didn’t get the title “Miss goody two shoes” for nothing. That phrase used to bother me but I learned to love it.
