Music and Mental Health
Music has a powerful way of reaching us when words fall short. It can lift our mood, reduce stress, and make us feel less alone. Whether it's a calming melody or lyrics that hit home, music can be a steady companion on the journey toward better mental health.
What’s your go-to song when you need a mental reset?

@AshleyNFlewellenLPC
"If you believe" by Patch Crowe! I love that song! Upbeat and vibing! 💓

Classical and folk musics have long been part of my professional life. I do not listen to "songs" (which is a word that has recently included any piece of music even if it is not sung).
Anything I could play or improvise on was probably a mental reset. Generally, I go for Haendel, Debussy, or East European composers of the 19th century.
What’s your go-to song when you need a mental reset?
@AshleyNFlewellenLPC
Saturn by Sleeping At Last.
It grounds me. It gives me meaning to my life.
I like classical music, mostly piano.
When I need a mental reset, I listen to Chopin's Nocturnes or Ballades, Schumann's Kinderszenen, or Bach's Goldberg Variations. Bach's violin concertos and Brahms trios are also a go-go.

Listening to Nocturne now. You don't know how much I needed that! Thank you for sharing. There's something about classical, I wonder if there'll ever be music like it again.
I am glad it worked for you and you like it so much!
There will never be another Bach or Chopin.
The last generation of composers I like ends in the middle of XX century. Composers like Respighi, Gershwin, Barber, Copland, Britten, Prokofiev... Even among these, the older the better for me.
There have been a few contemporary composers who made a timid effort to reach real people, beyond small scholarly circles. Not very successful so far I guess..
Some composers of music for films have composed beautiful pieces, very much in the classical tradition.
I can think now of Ennio Morricone with music like that for "The Mission" https://youtu.be/FtE3hoR_Nvo and "Cinema Paradiso" https://youtu.be/Cj7miUnCojQ

Thanks for sharing! I listened to The Mission... it's truly beautiful. Something about the collaboration of humans to make something meaningful, it's magical. Led by that one instrument, not even sure what it's called, just a guiding light.
It sounds like what enlightenment would feel like. You've opened my eyes! And ears!
I don't understand how they do it. Like, how do they keep time? It doesn't seem to make sense. Are they just following intuition, what feels right?
@AshleyNFlewellenLPC My go to song would be Flowers by Miley Cyrus! It's an uplifting song that expresses the importance of self-love and freedom :)
Cuz I’m happy! Farrell Williams

Are sad songs allowed? Bother - Stone sour
@imaginativeMaple7241
Maple (hope it's okay to call you this) I find sad songs can sometimes help to release painful emotions and make us cry what can really feel relieving.
Ive noticed that this song helps me cry til I can't cry anymore and then usually I start to feel better.
Any really old popular song which takes me back, but recently I've been listening to Feel It by D4vd- the vibes are just immaculate in that song.
