Getting a compliment means a lot to me because it means the person who gives it to you has been thinking of you before they spoke it. I try to always say thank you and not just blow it off.
I struggle with receiving praise and compliments. I always say thank you and it makes me feel good but after an hour or two passes I don't feel I deserved it.

Of course, I appreciate being praised for something I did, but I need to feel that I really did a good job.
I think some people don't accept compliments because they might feel like the praise isn't real or that they don't really deserve it, maybe because they don't feel confident about themselves.

I think people can at times brush them off due to shyness.
Or because they haven't lived in a healthy environment or received compliments before.
They have suffered trauma 💛
@soulsings I was so happy when one of my young piano students sent me a little note saying how much she appreciated me for teaching her. It meant alot. I felt very happy to receive it.

I feel happy and motivated when I am praised for something that I did.
People brush off compliments because they think that they can't do it. They might not think that they are actually good, because of our automatic negative thoughts. We tend think about the negative aspects of our life rather than think about the positive.
@Admirablerainbow2825 for me I have to watch out for thoughts of being inferior or superior. Either one does not lead to happiness.

Believe it or not, the answers are going to follow the cultural climate. In some countries, getting praised is worrisome, so NOT expected at all. Some people will brush them off because that's what they are expected to do.
Personally, of course, it feels good to get praised for something special and meaningful. I am still a good little girl.

I feel great when I receive praise for something I did! I'm very proud of my achievements and I take praise well.
I do not take compliments well! It's funny, a friend and I were talking about this just last night. I feel like they are contrived lies to make me feel good. I know this is ridiculous because when I compliment someone, I mean it and it's genuine. I really do think you're beautiful. I really do like your cute shoes. Your makeup really is pretty. I don't know why I sometimes don't believe it when people say the same things to me!
@TovaCares76 in me I get swollen up sometimes with pride and I try to avoid that by pushing away the compliments.
What is the difference to you between praise and compliments?
Praise: "hey you did an excellent job knitting that blanket" "great job playing tennis today"
Compliment: "Your hair looks nice" "You are so nice"
Maybe it's comments on my work are okay, comments on me no? 😂😂

While I don’t feel I need to be praised by others anymore to be honest it still does feel good.
They may not believe they need it, don’t care how others think about them, or believe the praise they receive is not real which is something I know all too well from my own experience in life
When someone does a nice thing and we thank him for that, he feels happy and this gives him motivation to do better 😁. But extra praise isn't a good thing.
