@amiablePeace77

Why is it so important to respect yourself?

If I do not respect myself others may not as well.

What impact can it have on your surroundings?

If I respect myself then I am less fearful and reactive when facing criticism. This can mean that I see the world as a less intimidating place.

@soulsings

I very much agree with you about the 2 points you made soul. If others see that we treat us badly they are much more encouraged to treat us even worse.

Self respect is important because it enhances your self esteem. When you respect yourself, you are saying that I am important. It helps you to take care of yourself first before taking care of others.

Respecting yourself can help others to respect themselves by seeing you. They will learn through you to respect themselves.

@amiablePeace77 I think if we didn’t grow up in a secure environment, we hope to find that somewhere else. People are generally good, but at the end of the day most people are focused on getting their own needs met in whatever way. Relationships are conditional. We all need to help ourselves first, if we’re going to help others effectively.

Respecting ourselves means valuing ourselves, treating ourselves as if we are special and loved. If we don’t, who will? How can we expect them to? One thing that has taken me a very long time to learn is that if you talk to yourself badly or treat yourself badly, other people will believe you. I always thought the other person would be my hero and fight for me. But instead they agreed with my poor self-assessment.

We show people what we will accept and not accept. We show them how we deserve to be spoken to and treated by the way we treat ourselves.

I am still learning all this.

I agree with you. Setting boundaries is very important and many of us (including myself at times) join you in learning about them.

Why is it so important to respect yourself? What impact can it have on your surroundings?

You first have to respect yourself before getting respect from others. I come first and how I treat others is how they will treat me. Respect comes first from inside yourself.

You know this is so important! Firstly, thank you for this prompt, Ami💙They make me think so deep!

I guess, respecting yourself aligns you with who you want to be in this life that's showered upon you! Respecting yourself is not only important so that people treat you respectfully but it's important so that you can live with peace and contentment in life. I believe it gives you a stronger personality and more than that, it gives you happiness which is the ultimate goal of life!

When you respect yourself, you radiate positivity, hope and become reliable for people! They trust you because they know you will stand up for your values only to respect yourself every time! Life is a long journey of discovering this I believe and the more we respect ourselves, the more we become role models for people, a source of encouragement and inspiration thereby driving social change on a broader level!

I guess I got this deep! Woahhh! Claps to me!😁💓

Self-respect is essential because it helps you set boundaries, make healthy choices, and build confidence. It protects you from mistreatment and strengthens your sense of self-worth. When you respect yourself, others are more likely to respect you too. It also fosters healthier relationships, creates a positive environment, and inspires those around you to value themselves.

Why is it so important to respect yourself?

I firmly believe it’s very important to respect yourself. I find that to be part of self care and self love and self worth and believe if you don’t respect yourself first, no one else will respect you, at least not how you want them to, and if you don’t respect yourself first you can’t expect anyone else to respect you.

What impact can it have on your surroundings?

If you truly respect yourself you won’t harshly criticize or judge yourself and won’t care if others do. It won’t stop you from living your life how you want to and being your true genuine authentic self. And with all this, you’ll end up being happy and having actual friends no matter how many or how few they are

You mentioned a very good point that if we do not harshly criticize or judge yourself you would not care if others do!
