Setting boundaries

Setting boundaries helps protect your time, your thoughts, and your sense of self. It's not selfish to do this; in fact, having clear limits is important for keeping your mental health strong and for creating healthy, respectful relationships with others.

What boundary that you set improved your life?

I stopped saying yes to everything and spreading myself too thin.

It stopped exhaustion and resentment 🩷

Although most of mine are ignored, pushed and exploited via guilt, I'm trying to persist.

A recent one was sticking up for myself when I was ignored, yet approached sneakily and it just didn't feel right at all.

So I distanced myself and was proud because no-one should make you feel bad and not apologise for it and then only show remorse after you've gone, that's not care, that seems manipulative..

I'm happy that you took care of your feelings without feeling guilty about it.

Boundaries.... what a concept! It is as if people made their own individual social rules, which goes against the way I was raised - in other words, the same rules applied to everyone.

If anyone crosses a line, there are choices to deal with it. You just know whether what was done or said merits a reaction.

I would not say it improves my life anyway.

What boundary that you set improved your life?

@amiablePeace77 it's an important skill needed to be learned at early years at school , so that you can survive later in their lives

I agree! The earlier we learn to set boundaries the easier life will be.

What boundary that you set improved your life?

it was very hard but set some with my mom who for years was emotionally codependent on me  big one was i moved away from her and other family members i limited the time i would talk to her if she talked about things i did not want to hear i gave her 3 warning and hung up phone took like 3 times  after that she learned to listen when i said i did not want to talk about things or a person

this really improved my life both moving away from family and boundaries  with mom and others

but first i had to learn what boundaries  were and how to use them in healthy way

Actually, I do not like to be disturbed when I am in the middle of listening to a podcast or working on a sudoku. If my son comes in and wants to share a story, I tell him: "You got 10 seconds." Otherwise the flow of my thoughts is broken. I suppose that's a boundary right there!

What boundary that you set improved your life?

I don’t say yes to everyone all the time anymore. That improved my life. There are many other boundaries that didn’t improve my life too though bc people have violated those boundaries instead of respecting them

Being able to say "No" is important! It's unfortunate that some people keep ignoring personal boundaries. I believe that if we show respect for the boundaries we set, others will do the same over time.
