The Quote Project: Share Your Favourite Quotes and the Personal Meaning Behind Them

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all well 🌻
Quotes can capture our minds and help us creatively problem-solve or even reflect on certain situations in life. Many studies have shown that they are beneficial in improving well-being too!
I am sure we have some individuals who enjoy reading quotes and applying them to their lives. We could add our favourite quotes to this thread as often as possible. You can add multiple times a day or even just when you remember to do so, whatever works best for you! :)
I will start with one of my favourite quotes:
"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination".- Carl Rogers. The reason why I find this quote meaningful is that often we want to reach the end result of what we are doing, and we forget the process is just as important! This might be applied to studies, finishing a project, cleaning our room/homes or finishing our endless to-do list!
Please share your favourite quotes or even one you've found meaningful in the moment and what they mean to you.
@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS thank you for this thread! What a great way to start the new year
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 20 years on Robbins Island due to his opposition to apartheid. He could have been bitter but he used the time to examine his own beliefs and conditioned thinking. Here is one quote from him.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are weak. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?"
As a footnote to this post, Nelson Mandela went on to be the first leader of South Africa after the end of apartheid. He could have been vengeful towards those that imprisoned him, but instead he proposed the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to develop compassion for anyone that would admit their wrong doings and face those they may have wronged with contrition. In this way, an era of peaceful coexistence was established during his term of office.
@soulsings
Wow, such a powerful quote and a reminder to hold onto what we believe in without making us feel resentment.
"Your anxiety is lying to you"
@Mayita874 Thank you for sharing that.
@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS
Great idea, Lisa and thankyou for sharing the quote, I think it can be applied to many things as well!🌻
I have many favorite quotes, but something that I resonate quite a lot is one by Robert Frost, "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."
I find this so meaningful, validating and oddly comforting, it can be applied to different things also. Failed a test? You can try again, life doesn't stop there. Lost a job opportunity? You can explore more options. There's more to life than *that* job. Broke up with someone? It is heartbreaking but life doesn't stop here either, pick your pieces and build yourself back, *you* got yourself. Lost a loved one forever? This one is extra hard because there's no words enough to comfort the loss of a loved one, but again, life doesn't stop for anyone, you can take your time to acknowledge, accept, process, heal and grieve, but that's about it, life keeps moving and so do we, everyday in whatever little ways possible.
I said "oddly" comforting earlier because, not much about any of these common situations I shared above as examples is even in the least, close to even "comfortable", it is not, I know because I've been there. But it is still comforting that so long the sun keeps rising and there's a new morning we wake up to, there's still more to life, still more to do, still many exams to take, many jobs to apply for, many people to meet, make the most of our time available with our loved ones and do what? Keep living! 💛
It's comforting in the sense that no matter what happens, who loses us or whom do we lose, there's *still* more to life than that, there's still space to keep moving, still room for hope, that at the end of the day, it'll be okay, we'll be okay, and so we keep trying our best! 🌻
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
This is so true and as we get up every day there is always hope, we just need to find it and sometimes it takes time but it is always there. 🌻

Don't judge, lest you be judged
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” - Nelson Mandela
That has always stuck with me. It has always helped me to keep going. In all my anxious moments. I may feel anxious and scared, but it’s not the end of the world. Even amazing people get scared. No one is born brave or innately or naturally brave. What makes someone brave like the quote says is someone who goes on despite that fear. Anyone can be brave. You could be the tiniest mouse of a person and your entire body could be trembling in fear, but you can fight that metaphorical dragon and you can win.

"Always be kinder than you feel. A bad mood is never an excuse to use cruel words, never! Moods pass, but cruel words wound the soul."
I had to learn this in order to not have shame and regret after arguments or disagreements.
@indigoCherry6084 this has really resonated with me. Thank you for sharing
@indigoCherry6084 Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS Thank you for this thread.
True love is eternal, infinite, and always like itself. It is equal and pure, without violent demonstrations: it is seen with white hairs and always young in the heart. -Honore` de Balzac
This world of ours is lacking in the love department.
So much hate.
So much violence.
Not much love.
The world needs to change.
We need more kindness.
We need more love.
We need less violence.
We need more Peace.
We need to learn, how to get along better despite our differences.
We need to show more compassion towards our fellow human beings.
We need more people to show empathy and understanding.
We need to stop being racist, and learn that we can get along despite, skin color, despite what nationality we come from.
We need to stop judging others.
We need to have open communication, where we can learn from each other.
We need to treat each other better.
We need to respect each other, no matter what.
We have to remember, we all have issues we are facing.
Let us, work together to support each other and help each other.
Instead, of judging each other, lets work together.
Where there are things, we disagree, lets try to find common ground.
Let's be kinder and more loving towards each other.
Let's try to support each other, as much as we can.
Let's all work towards a better world.
Let's all work to make someone's day, a little brighter.
Divided we fall, United we stand.
I thank you for reading this, and for taking the time to read this, comment.

I have a lot of quotes that I really like but the one I'm thinking about right now is one by Tinkerbell.
"If you have to choose between me and her, choose her. Because if you really loved me, there wouldn't be another choice".
@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS
"You adore people on days when they feel ugly about themselves, you stay back and check on randomly just to make sure, they are okay.....You don't mind going that extra mile when they need you......So, you know how to do it. You just don't know, certain days you gotta be that keeper for yourself too... 🧡"
All of these are such positive and powerful reminders! Thank you for sharing. Keep them coming :)
@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS We will do our best, to keep this going.
Martin Luther King Jr or John Wooden has a quote 'The measure of a man isn't what he does with everyone around, but what he does when nobody's watching."
I changed it to "What's the measure of a human being? We were born to find our meaning." By doing that I made the quote for everyone. My quote is important to me because there's not meaning in everything, but everything has meaning.
@NG2 good point that is language that has evolved since the 60's
@NG2
That really is a great quote, and I love how you modified it to be more inclusive for today :)
@BlueSkies1021 I didn't write this just to be inclusive. The greater point is that meaning or purpose are universal parts of the human condition regardless of the time period.
@NG2
Oh, okay! Sorry for assuming. But still, that is so inspirational and meaningful, and I really admire you for putting this out here :)
@BlueSkies1021Thank you sincerely. I'm humbled you are inspired by it!
@NG2
Very insightful! :) Thank you for sharing
