@amiablePeace77 What are some secrets of good parenting in your opinion?

Listen more.

Tell less.

Live in the child's world - not try to get them to live ion your world unless it is a matter of safety. They will grow up slowly.

@soulsings

I very much agree with you Soul. Feeling heard is important to everyone but especially for kids. They need to know someone is listening and see the world from their perspective.

Let them come to you don’t judge, listen always, and show interest in what they tell you! Make them know they can always talk to you and keep that door open!!

I just learned something today. My 11-year old grandson who usually is reluctant to cooperate with household chores has suddenly become very responsible and willing to help. It took my getting too sick to have much strength PLUS his father breaking a bone in his foot for him to realize that he was our hero now....

@Fradiga

It must be nice to see how "grown up" he is reacting now in a situation where his help is so welcome!

I'm not a parent but looking after my sibling has turned me into someone who researches about good parenting on a regular.

  1. I feel being able to relate to your child despite overemphasizing and exaggerating the generational gap as an excuse.
  2. Being a buddy to your child and not just a parent. Letting your kid find that safe space in you.
  3. Explaining with examples about the negative consequences of their wrong decisions or actions than outright criticism.
  4. Not projecting the insecurities from your childhood on to them. Because you live only once.

@trueconfidant123

Thank you for sharing these wise points! Taking the parent role but also giving a kid the feeling of having a buddy greatly contributes to them feeling safe and heard.

@daydreammemories

This can be hard for a parent but crucial for a child to grow their own mindset and feel confident!

@amiablePeace77

As a mom of two, I’ve realized good parenting isn’t about being perfect—it’s about staying connected, consistent, and calm. When we respond with empathy instead of reacting in frustration, our kids learn emotional safety. Each child is different, so flexibility matters more than strict rules.

I’ve shared—and learned—through spaces, where real-life parenting moments remind us: it’s the small, intentional choices that shape confident, happy kids.
