Happy Monday
I enjoyed the quietness of this weekend. Chores were done and my hub was not feeling well so looking after him. We caught up on our shows.
I am looking forward to Costco lol 😂 I need to stock up! I like doing errands out of town with my hubby. We take time to go out to dinner and a walk somewhere. 💕
Something I enjoyed in the weekend was that it ended.
Something I am looking forward to this week is nothing.
@OneErased
I hope very much that something will come up this week to look forward too 💙. It's hard when there is nothing to look forward to. What did you like before in the weekends or was it always like this?
I wouldn't really know without going through my journals. But things are how they are, really.
@OneErased I am sorry you cannot think of things to look forward to. That must be difficult.
I have seen you pop into the discussions ami and I host and I invite you to drop in and see if it feels better just to be with people. There are also open chats where you may find a lighter atmosphere more in sync with your mood. - Something I enjoyed in the weekend was ... Taking a friend out for her birthday and the restaurant gave us our food for free. How unexpected😊
- Something I am looking forward to this week is . Going to therapy sort of🤔
@amiablePeace77
It was Mothers' Day here in France so I was taken out to my favourite restaurant along the banks of the Dordogne River. We also celebrated my grandson's 9th birthday.
This week...... I am not sure what to expect, but I hope it is quiet
@Fradiga Happy Mother's Day in France. What you described sounded lovely and you enjoyed it.
I just joined and can't find a group with 'older folk' facing issues. with overall life, getting old, raising grandchildren, and taking care of mom with dementia. I just moved to Florida six months ago, I am in therapy. I hope I don't sound like a complainer, I have everything else in life to be thankful for. I just saw your post and you seemed someone friendly, around my age, I'm 65.
@Kyntah
I am happy you wrote! I am usually around from 10 AM in the morning (in France) if you are in a different time zone. The chances are good that I'll be there tomorrow evening from 6PM, if the morning is difficult for you. Please do come chat - I won't bite

- Something I enjoyed in the weekend was ... microwave dry roasted walnuts with soy sauce.
- Something I am looking forward to this week is ... sunshine when it gets here. The cloud and rains and cool weather continue.
@soulsings
Dry roasted walnuts with soja sauce sounds yummy soul! I need to try that. How long do you keep the nuts in the micro?
Sending you lots of sunshine, hope it arrives soon! 😃
@amiablePeace77 @amiablePeace77 I did a 1/2 of a pound of shelled walnuts (out of the shell. Spread them on a dinner plate so the nuts are one layer high. Sprinkle lightly with soy sauce and flip the nuts with a spatula or flipper so they are coated with soy sauce. On high I microwave for 4 minutes. If you want to try you could do 2 minutes then stir and 2 minutes more.
I do almonds 1/3 of a pound on dinner plate with your favorite oil and salt spread out 1 layer high. Then I cook in microwave for 5 minutes at powre lever 7 of 10. I test if a little golden brown in center. If not 2 more minutes power level 7. I cool before eating and they are very crunchy.
@soulsings
I enjoy walnuts too! I either eat them as a snack or crush them into a salad (lettuce or mixed)
@Fradiga sounds good. I like them lightly roasted better than raw. I am starting to get used to them as I have not had them for years.
Do you have any nut bearing trees on the property you live on?
@soulsings
Thank you for your question! Here goes...
Yes, three, but only one gave us fruit last September, but a lot of them. We have trees who pretend to be dead for a few years and then surprise you before you cut it down.
:D FYI: Fresh walnuts just off the tree are not yet good. They need to be kept in their shells for a few weeks at least. Then comes shelling (about the same time as the chestnuts) and the best way to get about it is to use a couple of idle people and shoot the breeze while you work together. It takes two pastis each to finish a bushel (about 30L). They can be kept in an air-tight jar or zip-locked and frozen. There are a ton of local recipes to get rid of your harvest and one of them is to bag the walnuts and leave them in someone else's car, like they do in the summer with their 5-lbs zucchini in the US. We locally also turn it into liquor or sweet wine.
@Fradiga so you leave them in someone else's car to roast them? So why someone else's car?
Thanks for sharing the story. At least you get walnuts. Here the squirrels would take them all!
@soulsings
It's called "problem dumping". You have too many walnuts and are embarrassed to ask anyone if they want your extra walnuts, so you simply turn them into a surprise gift.
@soulsings
We might not be able to roast walnuts by leaving them in a car in September, because the temperature will have cooled off by then. I would use my oven on an aluminium sheet. I often crush them into a coarse powder and use them while cooking or baking.
Walnuts are expensive though in France (I noticed way more than in Canada or the US), but if you have neighbours who share because you don't have a tree, the problem of too much harvest is solved.
@amiablePeace77
I went for a bike ride and I loved the smell of the elderflower everywhere. I made a syrup but it didn't turn out very well. I enjoyed a half day camping and hike in a mountain.
Next weekend we have long weekend again im so excited. I found a very interesting place to camp. (Hope it's not so cold) It is in 2000 m and under a glacier. And many waterfalls and mountain lake. And a very long hanging bridge. I enjoy every day if there is sun 😬
