Which skills in yourself would you like to improve on or strengthen this year?

Learning new things keeps your interest level high so you don’t get bored as easily. Doing the same things over and over again can quickly become monotonous, but learning a new skill breaks that cycle of monotony and prevents boredom from setting in.

One of the things I like to focus on this year is acquiring deeper computer skills. How about you? It can be anything like cooking, exercise or coping skills.

@amiablePeace77 I am hoping to learn more about fitness this year and become more passionate about it! I am also hoping how to learn to make smoothies because I got a blender for Christmas. So if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears! 😊

@fruityPond7887

Nice to hear that you want to focus more on fitness and healthy drinks to make use of your new blender! The "Healthy Living Community" https://www.7cups.com/home/healthyliving/ has some great suggestions, you can find them here: https://www.7cups.com/path/exercise/animated-exercise-stretching-videos-all-kinds-ad-free-1670177739/ as well as information about healthy food under food choices. When I make a smoothie I make sure there is not too much sweet fruit in it and also green leaves like spinach.

Hope this helps.

@amiablePeace77 Thank you! Yes, I definitely want to include some sort of greens! I was thinking either spinach or arugula! 😋

@fruityPond7887

Spinach and arugola are both great choices but be careful arugula grown with lots of manure can be very spicy! 😃

Those are some great goals! What type of fitness are you trying to learn more about? How to be more active, achieve a certain weight, improve flexibility, or some other specific goal?

I really enjoy exercise so I might be able to help :) 🏃

@Espejo I really want to lose weight, but I am trying not to think about it that way! I want to enjoy fitness and do it so that I am just overall healthier! I see all these girls online and they are so strong! I want a routine that will make me stronger and healthier, but I want to be thinner and not super "buff" if that makes sense hehe

@fruityPond7887 That is a great mindset and it definitely makes sense - to get stronger and healthier, instead of obsessing over a specific weight 😊

There's a lot of forms of exercise that can help you build muscle and get toned including strength training, pilates, yoga, dance, swimming, running, etc. 🏊 If there is an activity that you've enjoyed in the past, it might make it more fun to do that while you are reaching your goal. Also finding a workout buddy or group can make the difference and provide a supportive environment. 💪

Hope this helps and best of luck. Feel free to keep me posted on your progress 🍀

@Espejo Oh yes! I really enjoy just walking on the treadmill and doing some machines that I find interesting! I don't really have a specific workout plan but I wonder if I should! My gym has some classes that I should maybe look into! I definitely like going to the gym with someone else but usually I don't have any friends that are free to come! It makes it so much harder! Thank you for your advice!! 😄

@fruityPond7887

You are very welcome :) It sounds like you already have a plan with using the treadmill, other machines, and possibly taking classes that they offer ✨ I used to have a gym membership, but now I just take exercise classes because I like seeing the same people and working towards similar goals.

There is usually at least one friendly person in class so, might be a good place to make a new friend :) Good luck, you got this!!!

This year i am hoping to take part in a wider variety of things than i did last year. I signed up for some online classes to try to help with depression. I think learning could help keep me focused on something more positive than how i feel.

@TeenyTinyAppy sounds encouraging that you are signing up for online classes.

We have discussions here that help people cope with whatever is challenging for them. https://www.7cups.com/forum/50OverCommunity_193/TeamToolsandTeamUpdates_1705/50plusDiscussionsScheduleandTopics_207920/

@TeenyTinyAppy

Good idea to take classes to cope with depression. Our minds want to be occupied to a healthy extend and giving them something useful to think about can prevent that the minds choose random negative thoughts. May I ask what is something you want to learn?

Speaking up and letting go.

@funnyHickory5115

Sometimes we need to speak up to make a point and not let others run over us but letting go is also very important so that what happened does not stay on our minds and takes energy away we could direct to better things.

@amiablePeace77 Definitely cooking and baking (since I have to do those anyway) and yoga. I also want to get back into strength training and start a garden ( or at least plant a few flowers) in the spring.

@Psalm139 I have wild gardens in my yard. I do plant some flowers and veggies and the wild animals all tell me they are delicious by eating them!

@Psalm139 I kind of knew they would eat them but I was not mad. They would have died anyway if they had not been a meal for some hungry animal.

I really appreciate this community and introspective individuals as yourself. ❤ A constant striving to see others truly, as they are, where they've come from, things they can and cannot control, and to do so with oneself.

Something about carrying a dialogue with complete strangers is nourishing to grow emotionally. Have a good day!

If you want you can get the free sample lesson and see if you like it.

To learn scales I used the Hanon scales
