Traumatic Experiences Community Check-In: Saturday-Sunday, 25-26 July 2020
Hello community!!
As always, this is a supportive space, and its optional to participate in check-ins.
Todays topic is going to be an open one.
Sometimes it can be helpful to have a break from the normal style of check-ins.
For some weekends are looked at as a time of rest. Used for self-care and to recharge from everything weve experienced the week before.
And to give us a bit of time to prepare for whatever may face us in the future. Please know you are not alone, and whatever you may be going through we are here to support you.
Just going to leave a couple general questions for everyone to answer.
Check-In Questions:
How are you feeling?
What are some types of self-care youve been doing lately?
Feel free to check in again over the weekend if anything changes or something comes to mind that you want to mention.
(Ill be replying to everything as soon as I can, my internet is not the best)

1. I'm feeling very accomplished. Its late but I've gotten alot of research and work done. Continuing my language studies currently.
2. I've been meditating quite a bit. I plan to relax most of the weekend, maybe watch some informative documentaries or perhaps simply meditate with music and incense. Maybe even go out to have a picnic in the park with my gf. Theres a variety of options to choose from.
I do hope you have a wonderful weekend my friend.
@Understandingempath
Congrats on getting work done, good job! Hope you have a pawsome weekend
@Understandingempath
Sounds like you are taking well care of yourself and have a wonderful path laid out for you.
I'm doing ok thanks, Trying to hang tough, had a bit of a rough day yesterday.
Some of my self care activities are coloring while listening to music, chatting with people here on cups.
@Fireskye13
Sorry to hear you had a rough day yesterday - I have a feeling you are understating it! Hope things work out okay. <3
@calypteanna
Your feeling is correct.
@calypteanna
Thanks!
@AstronomySkies
I'm feeling mellow, exhausted. I'm grateful it is the weekend. I'm considering it an act of self-care to rest without guilt. I know if I rest, I'll have more energy and be in a better headspace to plan, create, get things done, give attention to others, etc, but if I try to rest while feeling guilty about it, it takes longer and I don't feel as rejuvenated.
@calypteanna
I'm really happy to hear you are letting yourself rest without feeling bad. Great also that you know you will feel more energized when you have rested for a while. The body knows what it needs, but sometimes we don't listen too well. Take care.
@AstronomySkies,
How are you feeling? I'm tired. I wish I weren't tired but I just am. I'm just trying to fight it but I have this feeling I should just give in for my own good and sleep super early and well. I have this weird habit of trying to do too many things at once with my psychology because my brain sometimes feels like it's on a high-speed train and I'm always super eager to heal. But I need to slow it down voluntarily :)
What are some types of self-care you
@HenrietteK
Inspirational to hear about your eagerness to heal. I understand you want to do it all at the same time and be able to put what is bothering you behind you.
It sounds wise to let your body rest by taking naos or do yoga. It can be exhausting to heal.
Take care🌷
How am I feeling?
I've been a bit tense today. Not excessively, and going out for a bit did help, but it's been low level and persistent. I think I've worked out why but I'm not quite sure what to do with the information. But better to know I guess!
Self care that I've been doing lately?
My usual relaxation exercises (been harder the past few days), going out for walks, last night I did a face mask and today I bought myself a massage bar (going to try self massage, I think I'm starting to really feel the impact of not being able to hug people and touch is meant to soothe the nervous system). Tonight I'm just resting in bed and reading for a bit. I've got therapy on Monday so I'm hoping talking things through with my therapist will help. I've also been trying to not be hard on myself for feeling tense.
Today I am feeling pretty good which is strange for me. Sometimes I do not know the difference between feeling good and the begining of a hypomanic episode. It's kind of strange. When you are bipolar, well at least for me, I get nervous when I am I start feeling happy.
I had a video chat with a friend I hadn't talked to for a while so it was nice to catch up. As far as self care, I have decided to take Saturdays to myself. I work all week, and have my parents living with me. They depend on me for most things and the second I am home they want to bombard me with request. I have decided that Sunday will be the day I do things for them and Saturday will be the day that I just stay in my room and just sleep, watch Frankie and Grace, enjoy my coffee, and take random classes online. It makes me feel a bit more refreshed.
I hope everyone is doing well and has a restful weekend.
I feel calm but if I don't keep busy I do find myself lapsing into overthinking.
To show myself care, I try and read a little every day. I knit and crochet and I've taken up playing my bass guitar again. Having things that keep my mind and hands busy is really helpful to me.
1- I'm feeling drained and overwhelmed at the same time. I cant remember a lot and I cant seem to escape it and function normally like I should be able to
@funnyJet7445 forgot the second part. I took a bath. It was relaxing. Couldn't really sit still though. I've been talking to someone new as well. Other than that I don't currently know sorry. I don't remember
I feel accomplished because some good things have happened yet I'm overwhelmed still. Most of the time I feel like my insides are twisted inside out even though I should feel okay. Just when I thought i was feeling better and that the re-occurring flashbacks of what my ex did to me was over, clearly it has not gone away. I know I'm getting better and that in three weeks I'll be in college having much more to worry about but I'm terrified this will never go away. I get like this when I'm stressing out over something and it just triggers me to think about everything bad that happened in my toxic relationship and everything afterward. I'm 18 now and this happened 3 years ago and it still being an issue is really frustrating and it feels so stupid.
self care wise I'm walking my dog and trying to connect with friends and family more to stop feeling as overwhelmed. although now i believe it's more as a way of procrastinating on my math placement test which I'm extremely stressed out about. Can't tell if I'm neglecting my responsibilities or if I'm doing self care (just a bit too much). I'm sorry this whole thing was sorta depressing and is a lot but yeah :)
Today is good as I am spending time with my daughter and grandbabies.
This week was a tough one, that is for sure, but it is looking better today. :)
I am in Texas and have to say thuis summer has been an extremely hot one so far. I have been indoors most of it but that is beginning to wear on me. I plan to try spending some time out late in the day when the temperature has dropped some.
Relationship issues due to trauma have been a concern lately. It seems I can't get too close to anyone without becoming triggered. I am actually used to this but am always hoping "this time might be different." Since it's not I am back to focusing on safer topics... art, learning something new, that kind of stuff.
I hope everyone has an amazing week :)
