🌸 Emotional Energy 🌸
hi everyone! ♡ 🧸
For those who don't know me yet, I'm Lex, and I'm a listener here on 7 Cups. One of the things that means the most to me is being able to offer people a safe, gentle, and non-judgmental space where they can talk about whatever is on their hearts. I believe that sometimes, we don't need someone to fix everything or tell us what to do. Sometimes, we just need someone who is willing to sit with us in our feelings, listen without judgment, and remind us that we don't have to carry everything alone. ♡
Today, I wanted to create a little space for a conversation about something so many of us experience, but don't always talk about enough: the emotional exhaustion that comes with struggling with our mental health. 🌧️

🌸 the parts of mental health that people don't always see 🌸
I think one of the hardest things about struggling with our mental health is that the world doesn't stop just because we're hurting.
Life keeps moving. Responsibilities still need to be taken care of. People still need us. There are still messages to answer, conversations to have, expectations to meet, and things we're expected to show up for, even on the days when we're barely holding ourselves together.
Sometimes, getting out of bed feels like an accomplishment. Sometimes, taking a shower, making something to eat, answering a message, or simply getting through the day takes more effort than anyone could imagine. And sometimes, even when we're doing all the things we're supposed to do, we're still struggling underneath it all.
We can smile, laugh, support our friends, go to work, attend school, and carry on with our usual routines while quietly fighting battles that nobody else knows about. We can look completely fine on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, sad, or completely disconnected on the inside.
And I think that is something we don't talk about enough.
Struggling doesn't always look like falling apart. Sometimes, it looks like continuing to show up when every part of you desperately needs a break. 🫂
Mental health struggles can affect so many parts of our lives. They can change how we see ourselves, how we interact with others, how we handle everyday situations, and how much energy we have to give. They can make even the smallest things feel enormous. They can leave us feeling frustrated with ourselves for not being able to do things that once felt easy.
Sometimes, we become our own harshest critics. We tell ourselves that we should be doing more, that we shouldn't feel this way, that other people have it worse, or that we have no reason to be struggling. We compare our progress to everyone else's and forget that we are all carrying different things.
But please remember this: you don't have to reach a breaking point for your pain to matter. You don't have to prove that you're struggling enough to deserve compassion. ♡
Your feelings are valid, even when they're difficult to explain. Your exhaustion is real, even when other people can't see it. And your struggles deserve kindness, even on the days when you don't understand them yourself.
🌷 You are allowed to find things difficult. You are allowed to have bad days. You are allowed to be a work in progress.

☁️ the emotional energy nobody sees ☁️
Something else I've been thinking about is just how much emotional energy it takes to get through an ordinary day when you're struggling with your mental health.
We often talk about being physically tired, but emotional exhaustion can be just as heavy. It can come from overthinking every interaction, trying to manage overwhelming feelings, fighting negative thoughts, worrying about the future, navigating relationships, or simply trying to convince ourselves to keep going when everything feels difficult.
Sometimes, our energy is spent before the day has even properly begun.
It can take energy to get out of bed when your mind feels heavy. It can take energy to reply to someone when you don't know how to explain what you're feeling. It can take energy to be around people when you're overwhelmed, to reassure others when you're struggling yourself, or to pretend you're okay because you don't want anyone to worry.
Even resting can feel exhausting when your mind won't switch off.
And sometimes, we don't realise how depleted we are until the smallest thing pushes us over the edge. We might become quieter than usual, withdraw from people, struggle to concentrate, feel irritable, or find ourselves needing more time alone. We might feel guilty for not having the energy we used to have, even though we're using so much of it just trying to get through what we're experiencing.
If this sounds familiar, I hope you can offer yourself a little understanding. You are not lazy for needing rest. You are not a bad friend for having less energy to give sometimes. You are not failing because you cannot do everything you once could.
You are a person, not a machine. You deserve care, too, especially when so much of your energy is being used just to cope. 🩷
You don't have to earn rest by exhausting yourself first. You don't have to be productive every day to be worthy. And you don't have to keep giving pieces of yourself to everyone else until there is nothing left for you.
Sometimes, taking care of yourself means doing less. Sometimes, it means asking for help. Sometimes, it means admitting that today is hard instead of pretending that everything is fine.
And sometimes, getting through the day is enough.

💌 a little question for you 💌
I've love to hear from you all, if you're comfortable sharing. ♡
🌷 What's something you do every day that takes far more emotional energy than people realize?
Maybe it's getting out of bed, going to work or school, keeping up with conversations, managing anxiety, dealing with intrusive thoughts, being there for other people, or simply trying to keep yourself together when things feel overwhelming.
Maybe it's something that seems small to everyone else but takes so much out of you.
Whatever it looks like for you, I'd love to hear about it.
You don't need to have the perfect words, and you don't need to explain everything. A few words, a little reflection, or a longer response are all welcome here. There is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. 🫶🏻
Let's make this a space where we can listen to one another, learn from each other's experiences, and remind each other that the struggles people cannot see are still real.
You never know who might read your words and think, "I'm not the only one who feels this way."

🧸 before you go, a gentle reminder... 🧸
Please be kind to yourself today.
You might not be where you want to be yet. You might still be figuring things out, learning how to cope, or trying to understand feelings that seem too big to put into words. You might be tired of having to be strong, tired of explaining yourself, or tired of fighting battles that nobody else sees.
But you are still deserving of patience, care, understanding, and love.
You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to hide your struggles to make other people comfortable. And you don't have to face every difficult moment entirely on your own.
If nobody has told you lately, I'm proud of you for continuing to try, even if your progress looks different from what you expected. Please give yourself credit for the little things, too. They count more than you might realise. 🌸
And if you ever need someone to listen, talk things through with, or simply give you a space to let some of those feelings out, I'm only a message away. ♡
As a listener, I'm here to offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard. You don't need to pretend to be okay, have everything organised in your head, or apologise for having feelings.
You matter beyond what you can do for others. You matter on your difficult days, your quiet days, your unproductive days, and the days when all you can manage is getting through.
Sending each of you a little extra kindness today. Please remember to save some of that kindness for yourselves, too. 💗
With warmth and care,
Lex 🌷

Biggest costs for me are loneliness and trying to sleep. My mind races at times and often focusses on having no focus or sense of purpose in life just getting through each day, mindfulness, reading, walk breaks etc have little affect. PTSD and ADHD is a nightmare, I spoke with a GP yesterday on another issue but GP is arranging an assessment for depression.
This really touched Salaa heart ♡ 🥹🌷
One of the hardest parts of struggling with mental health is having to keep going even when you are mentally and emotionally exhausted
Sometimes, people see Dalaa smiling, laughing, studying, or being there for others, and they assume everything is okay, without realizing how much energy it takes just to get through the day
Dalaa thinks that sometimes, people become so used to pushing through their struggles that they forget they’re allowed to slow down, too
They feel guilty for resting, needing help, or not being the version of themselves they used to be
Dalaa is learning that being strong doesn’t mean never getting tired. Sometimes, strength is simply admitting that things are hard and allowing yourself to feel what you feel without judging yourself for it ♡
Thank you for creating such a safe and gentle space for this conversation Lex
We all deserve to be reminded that we don’t have to earn rest, hide our struggles, or be okay all the time to be worthy of love and understanding
Sending you and everyone here so much love🫂💗
Joe always sees Dalaa's strength. Even when you need to rest and not do anything, you are strong. You are strong because you live with the challenges you face. You are lovely because even when you are in pain you are always so good to me. Joe is so fortunate to have a beautiful friend like Dalaa. 🫂
I am also a listener. Yet, I too have my struggles. I suffer from fibromyalgia and diabetes. I also have arthritis and I am anemic. I am frequently weak, hurting, fatigued, and in pain. It is hard for me to get out of bed every day but I push myself and I do it. Once I move around and have my coffee ☕️, I’m ok but I still hurt. The one that keeps me feeling like I have purpose is my dog. 🐕🦺 He’s a blue-gray Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He’s my heart ❤️ and my world 🌎 . His name is Solo. I love him so much. 🫶🏻
@ArizonaKona7
Pleased Solo helps 👍👍

Hmm... live in my house and trying to slip through the daily fights and arguments and misunderstandings and destructive words and behaviors.
Thanks for listening lex🤍
