Mirror mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?
Does anyone else hate taking photographs, or looking in the mirror and if so what do people suggest to combat it?
Yep, I often hate pics of myself.
@jesusredeemedme2425 do you think it's just in general or as a result of people/trauma, but only what you are comfortable sharing 😊🥰
I just look gross in candid photos XD
@jesusredeemedme2425 Its funny how we perceive ourselves, but I have no doubt, you are not gross 💜🥰
I’m actually pretty (which is weird for me to say because I’ve always had low self esteem), but I just don’t like pics of me lol
@jesusredeemedme2425
Same situation.
Well, I'm getting old - isn't that HARD? Not old as in 30', old as in real old - so yeah, pictures and mirrors are getting more and more difficult by the day. And there's a huge difference between knowing it's normal and accepting it's normal... So yeah, maybe not by the same reasons you're talking about, I've being struggling a lot with it. Unfortunately.
@QuandarySister I'm sorry that you are struggling with it as you get older, it must be surreal to look in the mirror and not see you, definitely takes adapting and time, I would suggest looking in it for a couple of seconds daily, and saying, you sre still thete, you are beautiful, you have plenty more to offer and lots to give, nice to meet you 😊🥰
@Amanda84 dearest, you're so kind, thanks. You know, some days are better than others. I see myself there, sure - but either I see too many wrinkles or I think "oh!, that botox really working" LOL.
I think society and social media play a big part, in making young people feel they don't look the part, with unattainable features and figures, most that are airbrushed, we all gave different body shapes, different blemishes, scars and stretch marks, freckles and imperfect eyebrows, not as they say turkey teeth, we are all unique and beautiful and difference should be exemplified and celebrated not brushed out. There should be no pressure to be perfect, it doesn't exist 🥰
@Amanda84
And perhaps it might be worth considering that the outside is just the presentation case, and it is what is inside that is truly amazing?
Age, accident, or ague of any kind cannot diminish the beautiful person you are. You will always be unique, and thus always admirable. Perhaps not everyone will always appreciate you all of the time, and maybe sometimes some people get a little too distracted by sparkly-shiney surfaces to notice the real prettiness underneath, but that doesn't change you...if anything it is a little sad for them, as they are missing out.
I know it might sound twee, (or even hypocritical from a person who avoids being in photos), but from where I am standing and looking out, you are ALL perfect.
I don't feel like I recognize myself in photos and I absolutely hate looking in mirrors. I'm not sure how to change this
@mytwistedsoul the only way to change it, is to look, I know, sounds simple huh, but it really isn't, even a few seconds a day, telling yourself, you are fine, you are worth it, not wasting precious time being afraid of being truly you 😊
@Amanda84 Thank you
Is that a part of your DID?
@jesusredeemedme2425 Some of it. It's very disconcerting to not recognize the face that's there.
That must feel uncomfortable.
@jesusredeemedme2425 It is and distressing for some.
@mytwistedsoul thank you for sharing, it helps in understanding things we might not have any awareness of 🥰
@Amanda84 Yes! I hate it so much because I've put on a ton of weight for one, and also, I just think I always look like a total weirdo. 🤪
@Amanda84
I wont say I hate the way I look but I feel like I'm kind of insecure about it. It's not the kind of insecurity that makes me hide my face from people, it's one that makes me want to hide my face from myself. I have a weird, uncomfortable feeling when I look at my reflection, but it isn't hate. I also cringe whenever I see a photo of myself but it's more amusing than embarrassing. I've been thinking about this specific problem more recently so it's great I stumbled across this post!
@MysteriousPomegranate Thank you for your honesty. I did wonder about this because most of us have natural insecurities and things we'd like to change and photos that don't do us justice but we can laugh them off because we know it was a bad hair day, a bad angle etc, but alot of people cannot look in the mirror, take a picture or laugh off a bad one, it causes them deep trauma and hurt and I'm wondering is this a direct result of trauma, bullying, and how can we combat it because no person should ever have to avoid who they are 🥰
I hated before how I look so I hated clicking ny pic I used to hide my face when it came about pic group photos my friends loved to click pics and I was only one in group who doesn't liked taking pic bcz I looked ugly in then dude yea it was so but later by chance one and other pic came gud then I discovered its about clothes angle confuden not about skin tone from then I don't have phobia from pics still I avoid them long habit no
I’m so sure you are amazing just as you are ♥️
@amusingwaves2113 ah, thank you for such a genuine and heartfelt compliment 🥰
