@Fristo
Fristo, this is an awesome discussion!!!
i play quite a few instruments, i have been studying music since the age of 8...
i am proficient on the tabla (my best instrument!), dholak, harmonium, naal drum, taanpuran
i know some other instruments too, but not good enough to perform with...
i love listening to all types and genres of music, i feel that music is uplifting to everyones' souls and music can help people like me with mental illness to cope with their illness... definitely, listening to and playing music is a coping skill!!!
Don't Lose Heart by Steven Curtis Chapman
I love this song and it speaks to me.
@Fristo love this post!!
Which song never fails to uplift you? Weaker Girl by Banks! Though it does contain some profanity, listening to it will always remind me how strong and powerful I am.
What's the most amazing line from the song lyrics of one of your favourite songs? "I didn't make it this far, just to make it this far" ~Cycle, Sabrina Claudio. These lyrics have stuck with me since the first time I heard them.
Which song melody do you love to hum? Louie Bag by Yebba & Smino!
Which song would you dedicate to someone supportive and kind to you? I would dedicate the song Lucky by Choker to my closest university friends.
Which instrument do you play, or would like to learn and play? I play piano but would love to learn to play guitar!
What's a timeless song in your mother tongue you feel happy listening to? Bad Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce - it was the first song I completely memorized!
Who is your favourite lyricist or songwriter, and why? Nat Wolff, specifically his song Winter Baby. The first time I heard that song, it felt so personal to the artist that I felt as if I should not have been listening to it. What made it even more intimate to me was that the first time I ever heard it was at one of his live shows as it has yet to be recorded since he first wrote it likely around 2013. Supposedly there has been a studio version recorded, although the first live version I heard will always be special to me.
What classifies as good music, in your opinion? As a dancer and dance teacher, most of my music taste stems from what I can choreograph to. If I can visualize myself or someone else dancing to it, I'll often consider it good music.
What's the most essential element of music for you: the singer's voice, musical instruments, song melody, or song lyrics? In my opinion, musical instruments can drastically change the tone of a song. When speaking of her song Meteorite, singer & songwriter Banks stated that it was originally going to be a power ballad done only on piano. It was released on her latest album in April as a dark and intriguing bass heavy and faster paced song. I think the song is great as it was released, but I'd love to hear what it would have sounded like as a ballad as it would be a better way to truly feel her emotions while writing.
Which language feels most musical when you speak it? Not necessarily spoken per se, but American Sign Language has a fascinating rhythm to it when done fluidly.
Any lullaby that puts you, or used to put you, to sleep? When I was around 12 years old, I could only fall asleep if I was listening to the song Every Heart by Sara Haze on loop. Since then I've been able to fall asleep without music, but some of my favorite songs to wind down to are The Great Escape by Patrick Watson, Caught Up In a Dream by Sarah Kinsley, Gulls by David Gray, I Still Love You by Banks, and Wishbone by Debbie Neigher.
I like to hum “league of legends star guardian 2022 orchestral theme”
And I play the piano. Not super good.
also I like every song by Ruth B. that has piano in it with beats
oh and what I consider a good song is… no idea how to describe it, but I like the ones that present a sense of loneliness, longing, reminiscent, sadness, hopefulness, calmness. I like the ones with consistent high notes, like lullabies (not explosive ones where everyone go like woooowww that’s a high note!)
I really want to learn to play the fiddle. Feeling kind of excited about it. (specifically the fiddle not the violin). It’s hard to get started but I have plans to spend time on it over my vacation.
If I wrote a song about love and peace the first line would be “let’s eat the rich.”
making playlists and listening to new music makes me feel like a big shot character with a sound track i love that for me.
I don’t listen to music
I find it amazing that I have no knowledge of 90% of the songs posted here.... signs of aging for sure. It's interesting to see how each generation has their own popular music. It's a good thing. 😊
